Hey guys! Merry Christmas or happy holidays to all those watching. I hope you've had wonderful time off thus far. Just to say, I'm sorry if the audio is a little off this video, I'm still recovering from you-know-what and have been isolating over the holidays. Hopefully I will be back to my full self soon.
Big brother didn't use the video by mistake, but I deleted your video, you could have claimed the copyright if you wanted, then you would have benefited there. But why give a copyright strike, it hurts others, and to harm people as human beings is a good deed later? If you claim copyright you get all the profits but due to the copyright strike the channel is closed or does not work. If you hurt others, you will lose yourself one day. Proverbs. Learn to do good without harming others. Then one day someone will come to your aid.
If you tool your ware on a bat, then you can lift up to feel the weight and check for thickness that way. Also, a flat rib can be used to compress a vertical outer wall into place without using outside pressure, avoiding a wobbly clay wall. And, I like your assortment of fine tools and equipment as well as keeping a tidy space. Props
Comments like that really make all the time and effort spent creating these videos so worthwhile. If they cause just one person to try out the craft it has done something positive. Good luck! I'm sure you'll love it, it's a fantastic craft.
I've been binge-watching all your videos, and I'm constantly impressed by how meticulous you are in every step of the process. This care, along with your calm, measured voice and clear explanations, make every one of your videos both instructional and calming, a combination of ASMR and learning! You have the neatest, cleanest studio and everything is just so. Your work is beautiful and just about as near-perfect as pottery is capable of being. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge in such a wonderful way! I'll be looking forward to shopping your next show on Instagram!
You're a mind reader, Florian! Every time I'm battling with making something - at the moment it's plates - you post a video which helps me succeed! Brilliant!
Like you, I’ve just started throwing porcelain after many years of stoneware so your tips have been particularly insightful. Using slip instead of water was a game changer! Sincerely grateful for your help. Feel better
Hope you are feeling better. Past Tuesday was the winter's solstice so from now on we are gaining minutes of light every day (I like to put it that way, seems to help me seeing the lack of light in a more positive way)
Merry Christmas and happy new year. Thank you for sharing 😊 I am a beginner of making porcelain recently. I do find your videos very useful and professional. 😄
Great video! But in the thumbnail it looks on my phone like you are using a pickle for a throwing rib. Again, your video is amazing but I laugh every time the thumbnail goes by in my feed.
Merry Christmas, Florian! I hope you get better soon. Thank you for all the hours of lovely content, your channel has been a bright spot in my life in this lackluster year.
it makes me so happy when you upload!!! thank you for creating content for us! you have amazing pottery skills and you've learnt so much with porcelain! good luck to you, i hope the new year brings you new opportunities :)
Looks very nice like most of Your Work. Love to watch Your Videos, they're calming but never boring. Pottery has some Magic about it, like a lot of old Craftmanships. Merry Xmas.
Have you tried throwing porcelain plates on a plaster bat? It's wonderful because you don't wire cut the plate, dependung on the time of year and how wet your bat is, the plate just comes off after 12/24 hrs. Use any plaster, and a silicon pie form for perfect bats, cheap as many as you want. And set them with metal brackets like a Giffen grip, if you get tired of attaching the bat with clay....also nice that pot while wet is so easy to handle while attached to it's thick, heavy bat.
And have you tried Audrey Blackmann Porcelain? It is also rubbery like porcelain but won't flop down, more robust and also lighter white than what you are using.... Funny maybe you are using Audrey Blackmann and the lighting is unclear. I just heard it squeaking while trimming... That would be Audrey Blackmann)))
the better i get the more i realize how critical good tools are, I covet your carbide tools lol o get good tools by buying medium-quality tools and putting my one edges on them, I could shave with most of them
Nice video and a very fine plate, you make it look so easy, and I know it’s not.😊 I understand the purpose of most of the tools that you presented, but what do you use the spinner for?
Thank you! It's used to apply downward pressure to a pot to hold it in place as I trim. In theory you can do the same process with your hand but the spinner stops grogged clay from sanding down the pads of your fingers and it also means you can apply downward pressure that's distributed across the bottom of a pot, rather than it all being focused through your fingers. Like lying down on thin ice as opposed to standing up. If a pots base it thrown thinly using one of these can help prevent it from bowing inward and deforming.
That's a very deep plate! If I saw that out of context I'd probably call it a bowl. I suppose you can't throw shallow plates due to the large overhang, would that be a job for a mould instead?
It hasn’t affected sales or anything, rather sourcing raw materials has become a lot harder. Brexit hasn’t helped either in that regard and some clays and other such things have become more difficult to obtain and more expensive too.
@Florian Gadsby, when you say plate or flatware, do you mean a dinner plate? I'm a little confused as that was more of a pasta bowl than a plate??? what am I missing? Great video by the way!
You can throw circular plates and then cut the sides afterwards. Or you can use moulds or you can slip cast them or just hand-build them, there are plenty of ways of doing it.
See I can get it centered it looks all pretty and stuff but getting the whole started wow I'm trying I epically Failed lol 4 times now but I'm trying I'm standing trying to do this cuz I don't have a stool or a table that sets the same highth that would help I'm sure but it harder then it looks 😂 I'm gonna keep trying I'm working with air dry clay so it seems so much harder to me idk I wanna try the brown..
But ur videos help I wanted how to center and that how I center mine now so keep posting for ppl who are just starting ur awesome wish I can do what u do some day huh.
Because Florian speaks very clearly, and doesn’t use too much jargon with more common homophones, the automatically generated captions on his videos tend to be better than most.
çok güzel bitirene kadar izledim videoyu kesinlikle bunu yapmalıyım ama bunun için para yer ve daha bir çok şeyin uygun olması lazım onun için daha sonra yapılacaklara eklendi 😊

Florian its 12 am where I am saving this for when I wake up then, yay another porcelain video!
Florian, I enjoyed watching your video. Beautiful bowls.
You have a very nice and soothing voice to listen to.
Thank you Florian and Merry Christmas to you too!

It's so enjoyable yet calming video to watch.
Thank you for explaining how to professionally throw a plate
Such a pleasure to watch you work!!
It is indeed a very spare and elegant piece. Plates/shallow bowls are my next project…
Absolute quality throughout, as always.
I'm glad to hear that you're recovering! Hope you also had an enjoyable holiday :)

Merry Christmas, get better soon. Love watching your videos. Makes me really anxious to get in my little studio and try making beautiful forms.
Thank ypu for this very helpful tutorial
I wish you a good and healthy New Year!

Great video. Merry Christmas Florian and a happy new year as well. 👋👍
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! It’s great to watch your videos on porcelain as I have recently started using it myself. Thanks.
Merry Christmas, Florian! I can’t wait to get back to the wheel after this video. I’m planning on trying to make serving plates in the new year.
I love seeing your content ² because it's so cool and unique
greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩
So glad to hear that! Greetings from the UK!
@@floriangadsby Greetings, I also like English 🤓
Why do you leave the wheel running with the plate on it during the clean-up part of the video?
I wonder how much it would cost to fill my kitchen with your work.
I could listen to you read the user's manual for a microwave and feel at peace. Can I call you every night to read me bedtime stories?
Oh the porcelain !! 😍
Beautiful
Nice video. The only thing it missed was the glazing and fireing, and finished product.
the better i get the more i realize how critical good tools are, I covet your carbide tools lol
o get good tools by buying medium-quality tools and putting my one edges on them, I could shave with most of them
A very nice plate
Nice keep going 💜✨👍🏻👌🏻
Always interesting to see .How do you make it so it doesn't crack?......
Great work! My friend Tom Coleman is one of those porcelain masters on this side of the pond. Ever heard of Tom?
Why don't these turn tables contain a inbuilt bright light in the centre 🤔

@@floriangadsby Oh I see. I think I use a small lid for the same purpose. 😁👍 Thank you and have a happy new year. 😊
Nice content, thanks
Pleased you think so. I thoroughly appreciate you taking the time to watch.
The plate keeps going round at the end like a lost scene from Inception..
WOW
Now this is ASMR...
throwing plates is what my dad does lol
That's a very deep plate! If I saw that out of context I'd probably call it a bowl. I suppose you can't throw shallow plates due to the large overhang, would that be a job for a mould instead?
Serving dish might have been a more appropriate name.
❤❤❤
Wow im early! And so happy to be
Hey Florian - great video as always. Question - how has Covid affected your business? Have you had difficulty purchasing clay? Or any other resources?
It hasn’t affected sales or anything, rather sourcing raw materials has become a lot harder. Brexit hasn’t helped either in that regard and some clays and other such things have become more difficult to obtain and more expensive too.
I am not sure if this is something that has been considered already, but is the machine bad for your back?
@Florian Gadsby, when you say plate or flatware, do you mean a dinner plate? I'm a little confused as that was more of a pasta bowl than a plate??? what am I missing? Great video by the way!
In my language (Norwegian) it would basically be called a deep plate (“dyptallerken”).
How are square plates made? I guess they aren't thrown on a wheel but moulded or something?
You can throw circular plates and then cut the sides afterwards. Or you can use moulds or you can slip cast them or just hand-build them, there are plenty of ways of doing it.
I wanna learn pottery
See I can get it centered it looks all pretty and stuff but getting the whole started wow I'm trying I epically Failed lol 4 times now but I'm trying I'm standing trying to do this cuz I don't have a stool or a table that sets the same highth that would help I'm sure but it harder then it looks 😂 I'm gonna keep trying I'm working with air dry clay so it seems so much harder to me idk I wanna try the brown..

Wish I can buy your creations
Any idea which clay color is the best for glazing?
It depends entirely on the glazes you use and the firing method too, there’s no best glaze.
Hı.. Is it possible for video lessons to have English subtitles? Thanks for lesson
On the desktop version of RUclips there’s a little button that says ‘cc’, if you click it it’ll display subtitles.
