Hello there. I bought a manual W201 1986 in similar condition. Everything under the car most rubbers are rotten away, changed {almost} everything. It's a 2.5L Om602 engine with 500+K on the clock. Yes it takes allot of man hours 😢 the flywheel or gearbox it's making a horrible sound in first gear and reverse, that's the biggest thing I need to fix then it's finally ready to take on the rust and paint job 💪
Compared to my 1994 Mercedes w124 E280 here in Australia, that car is a dog. I have 478,000 Klms. on my car & it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floom. Brilliant Green Metallic, absolutely no rust, brilliant DOHC 6 cylinder engine, Safron Jade leather interior in spotless condition, 10 stacker & an altogether fabulous car. There are some good ones around!

MOSTLY WARM OR HOT WEATHER, MEANS YOU DON'T GET CORROSION OR ALL THE RUBBER PARTS DETERIORATING. CARS IN GENERAL IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE HAVE A EASY LIFE !!! ON THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE IE CANADA, US, EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, RUSSIA, AND CHINA HAVE TO DEAL WITH SNOW, RAIN AND VERY COLD CONDITIONS, SO NATURALLY THE VEHICLES SUFFER.
Really would love if people stopped buying these as "dependable beaters" and running them into the ground. Old mercs, volvos, saabs, VWs. All GREAT cars if you can work on them. If you want a dependable daily and DON'T work on cars just get a honda or Toyota. Please. Leave these to people who can keep these alive.
I want to buy a w124 loved them when i was young. It is strangely on my bucket list. This video is a great realistic sobering look to help me plan. Oh and cool surfboards-longboards in the shop space.
Quite the Debbie Downer here. All of the issues are extremely normal for any classic car. No one should by a classic without expecting to work on it, but these are pretty straightforward IMO.
no debbie downer, just telling it as it is. I highlight this stuff because people buy these with 300K on the odometer when in reality most of them clocked a million. And yes they are bulletproof to a point but not indestructible. And sourcing good W124 parts is harder and harder.
I own 4 w124 I6 gas models. Great cars but I completely agree that maintenance can be overwhelming especially if you can not perform the majority of the work. And even if you can, it requires a lot of time to keep running properly. Good video. Honest.
yes and I find gas cars way more complex than diesels when they age and bloody expensive to fix. These days a proper running gas merc has a worn or almost worn K or KE jetronic. Then there comes everything else, 100's of vacuum lines which cause trouble, rotors, distributor caps, cam variations....they are really good when as good as new. Otherwise its a money pit
Sounds like you should just get yourself a Kid Rock hat and a machine gun and give it the Bud Light once over. I bought my 300 2.5 turbo diesel brand new in 93 for $43,000. Cash best car ever had still runs great just turned 100,000 miles. Can’t give it up every time we get a gas shortage here in the US. I just wave to all the people waiting online at the gas pump. I bought my first Mercedes diesel in 1973 just before the big gas shortage for $8000 cash. Got the second one in 1975 for 12,000 cash five cylinder diesel no turbo. Bought another one in 1983 Price actually dropped brand new for 10,000 cash. but the last one that I have now in 93, 300 2.5 turbo diesel with a sunroof cost me $43 ,000. That’s why I won’t let it go. The great thing about it is it’s the last decent one they ever made after that they started the emissions nonsense here in the US this car has no place to plug in a tester so it only cost me $10 for an inspection and with the historical plates, I save a ton of money on insurance. just change the oil and filter every 3000 miles and wash it off in the winter time if there’s any snow accumulation with salt etc. should last another 30 years. I don’t know about me though I think my warranty is almost up. You may want to think about getting rid of the man bun unless you really like that feminine look just buy a hat and tuck it up like the rock stars do or get a haircut.👶👀

The oldest serie 1 are the best with strong body; serie 2 are not so good anymore with the lateral plastic cladding hiding the rust. And the serie 3 does rust badly and has those awful electrical problems due to the "rotting" wiring......

Er a marca de topo abaixo de origem. Hoje em dia em termos de qualidade resta muito pouco. Arrisca na concorrência se o original for preços absurdos
Hola. Antes de subir tus videos, verifica que no obstruyas con tu foco de iluminación lo que indicas con tu dedo. Comprobarás que no se ve, no hay iluminación suficiente o está fuera de foco.
Besides the engine, all your stuff you just mentioned is not a dealbreaker. Anyone buying these vehicles knows they will need to do suspension and staring components, maintenance or work. But once all that work is done if the engine is in great shape, carr will go for another 200,000 bucks easy.
i know, but to most people its just an old car. I see it every day, rather drive something "old" and reliable than these high tech diesel or gas engines that run great for 100k and then throw them away....my question always is: who can afford this? Rather stick 5 k in an "old" merc and build it up while parts are still available and drive it until it falls apart
My W14 250 Turbo, 35 years old, still running daily here in Porto-Portugal. Great car, very low maintenance costs. Which other brabd, still has 35 year old cars running daily ?
What did you expect from 30+ years old car. most of cars are toraly gone at this age not to mention new ones. on that car you change all rubbers any possible rust and you are on the road.... There is no car like classic car ....
