I just can't shake the mental image of team New Zealand training in duck shaped paddle boats at their local park.

Larger foils = more lift and more drag. Just like an airplane.

Commentators are obviously half in the bag.
the boundary protest was deemed no penalty. Both missed it and the producers too.

Actually, if you look in the bottom left as the Swedes go over the boundary, the Swedes register a protest, presumably claiming NZ forced them into the boundary. That's what the No Penalty flashing up was referring to, the umpires denying the protest. The boundary penalty was a penalty.

This race was the first race of the finals for the 2017 Louis Vuitton Challenger's Trophy. Team New Zealand won this series and challenged USA for the 35th America's Cup (also in 2017). There are Wikipedia pages for both events.
