This just captures the very soul of angling. I love the half remembered conversations; the environment’s dramatic sweep and the lack of competition. Brilliant film.

Lovely film which perfectly captures what angling is all about. Despite what we see in (what passes for) mainstream angling journalism these days, it really isn't just about the fish. It is about the places; beautiful lakes, rivers and drains, and the creatures that live there. The smell of meadowsweet, the chattering of sedge warblers and the calls of waders and wild geese on the move; they are all as important as the tench sending up bubbles amongst the lilies. Fishing is what draws us, and holds us there, and we see so much more wildlife by sitting quietly. There is certainly something special about the capture of a wild fish from such places. Walking through these landscapes is wonderful, but when we are fishing we feel truly connected to these waters and the landscape (literally by the lines, but also metaphorically). That is how it is for me, anyway. I am glad that there are others that feel the same way.

"mainstream angling journalism these days" - which mainly seems to be product placement for Guru, Korda, etc. " Blahblah sponsored angler Kevin Cashbags used a Blahblah open end feeder on a Blahblah running link with 4lb Blahblah mainline..." It wasn't always that bad, was it?

Beautiful video - landscape and dramatic sky so evocative of my England. I’m so homesick now.

Thank you for sharing. That traditional rod reel simplicity is perfection and the whole filming style is a pleasure to watch it gets you HOOKED!

Just rewatched this after several months- what a lovely, delicate bit of filming!- Nothing can beat fishing the drains of southern England for tench. The skies are huge and there's such a variety of migratory birds and other wildlife to encounter on the long, balmy walks out to the best spots. Not even the classic estate lakes can match them. Tench Heaven! About 6 weeks now, isn't it? I shall be out there a week or so early prebaiting a couple of spots on my local stretches of marsh. I got lazy last season and didn't do enough groundwork. Also need a new rake!

Hello excellent videos. I enjoy viewing each one. Some technical questions: What is the length of your typical spinning rod that is used in carp and perch fishing? Also are you using monofilament or fluorocarbon line? Thanks again. Enjoying your videos from the USA.

That was great, Tench on a float and centre pin is magical. Get 5Lbers here on Cavan lakes from time to time, especially special if you cycle to your lake. Using a car is cheating 🙂

Yes of course - it's an Avocet - made by Constable of Bromley.
