I don’t understand the surprise. He ran as a pro-crime candidate and he’s running the city as a pro-crime mayor. This is all very predictable.
A lot of the same people who were mad at Paul Vallas for supporting the police are now mad at Johnson for NOT supporting them.. the people of Chicago have a thing for abusive relationships.

me too, I just moved out of Chicago to not have to deal with Chicago anymore.
I think he is undesirable in this role. He has not deliberately addressed MAJOR issues impacting citizens. I lean progressive on some planks but violent crime, gun reform and theft remain priorities. I did not vote for him and unless he soon EFFECTIVELY addresses these wider issues, I will NOT vote for him in the future.

He's terrible. He's so terrible there's a recall effort underway in the first year of his term. That doesn't happen just because people don't like someone. It happens when someone is a disaster. Johnson, of course, says it is motivated by racism. But that just doesn't work anymore. Do a good job and I don't think anyone in this day and age in Chicago has a problem with a public official. It isn't 1955 anymore and it's extremely tiresome when people try to pretend racism is still a big issue. The only racism you could argue is currently a problem is that against white people. We're supposed to spend our lives genuflecting for segregation and slavery we did not participate in.

Forgot to mention there is growing movement to recall him. He could face a recall by mid to late 2025. Last time I checked If he faces a recall election 60% of Chicagoans would vote to get him out of office.
