  • I've been traveling in India and Nepal this spring and decided to share this tasting with you guys. These are the most popular Indian mangoes in Florida, and many people have been asking my opinion on them. Let's find out what they taste like in their native habitat!
    Disclaimer:
    We are creating mango tastings for the 3rd year in a row and feel like sharing the same disclaimer because we still see people arguing about taste. Like many things in life that cannot be ever measured in a lab, tastes deserve to be studied, compared but never argued about. It is purely a subjective experience involving one's cultural conditioning, biochemistry and even mood. Exposure to certain types of foods during our childhood days, special liking of other types of fruit or candies and finding hints of them in mangoes play very heavy on the type of mangoes one likes or dislikes.
    Also, the same mango variety grown in different parts of Florida (or the world) will taste different depending on changes in microclimate, annual rainfall, soil health, soil mineral and salt content, fertigation regimen (irrigation+fertilization), etc. so blanket statements about a certain variety's taste aren't welcome. Lastly, mango picked early / not fully mature vs picked at the peak maturity changes how they ripen off of tree; often mangoes picked green, hard & immature eventually change color and look nice but will not get optimal sweetness (brix) or the complexity of flavor that make mango such a unique and tasty fruit.
    Please don’t make assumptions about a variety based on your tasting of a mediocre tasting fruit! Try fruit from different places, different microclimates at different stages of ripeness. Enrich your palate and palette!
    We don't think mangoes can be objectively rated from 1 to 10, as many variables play into it, but for the fun of it we have done it in some of our videos.

      Depends where you are located. Alphonso has issues with nutrient uptake and internal breakdown of fruits. Banganapalli is good in warmer climate. Sundari is nice looking from outside, colorful but not best in taste. I think Sonpari, Kesar, Mallika are better. And Amrapali is dwarf and very good tasting.

    why do you keep calling the flavor - spicy? I have never tasted a spicy mango

    • @growpuravida
      @growpuravida  Год назад

      Which varieties do you usually eat? Can be several reasons you don’t taste spicy, either the varieties aren’t spicy or you eat very hot 🥵 🌶 food casually and it doesn’t allow you to sense the subtleties of less intense tastes

      @@growpuravida I eat mostly the Alphonso.. mango in general is the sweetest fruit that I can think of. Never thought of spicy when tasting a mango.

    • @growpuravida
      @growpuravida  Год назад

      Mango is so much more than just sweetness. The taste tastings here on my channel wouldn’t make any sense if mangoes were all just sweet - the tastes of different varieties are complex and multidimensional, with subtle variations and combinations of sweetness, sourness, tanginess, spiciness/turpentine notes and a multitude of other fruit flavor notes that yoo can distinguish if you try different varieties. Again, as my disclaimer states, one cannot argue about taste, everyone tastes different things in the same fruit, and it’s my take on the flavors of mangoes. 🖖
