Who's to say that the Black Hawk's Altimeter hadn't failed or lost Calibration? We don't know that, and that's okay right now, that's what the investigation will determine. Keep in mind that the Jet was under VFR rules for the approach as well as the Helicopter flying under VFR rules. And under VFR rules it was see and avoid for both crews. The Jet never saw the helicopter and the Helicopter never saw the CRJ. Had the Jet seen the Helicopter he would've performed a go around. Had the Helicopter seen the CRJ they would've avoided it as well. None of you assh*les, that are prematurely, and blindly placing fault on the Helicopter pilots, without having any kind expertise in aviation whatsoever, know what all the events that took place in order to cause this tragedy are. Commenting ridiculous accusations as if you're an expert in this subject matter makes you look stupid, idiotic, and ridiculous. Shame on you!
The Coast Guard is responsible for policing the air space in Washington DC. They have helicopters that patrol the area and warn planes and helicopters when they are violating restricted air space. The Coast Guard helicopters operate out of Reagan National.
Flying too high/low isn't a violation. Just like driving too far to the right/left of the lane isn't a violation right away. If you do if for hours and hours, if you cause accidents etc. it might become a violation but slight deviations from the rule don't automatically mean a violation. ATC should have redirected the helicopter. Should have had a sense of urgency.

The Reagan/DC airport has No accident for 15 years! Yesterday, the military helicopter smashed the passenger airplane on the side! Who is at fault? Who has the legal right to go first? I recall this is the 3rd military officers tragedy incidents this month!
These 2 planes crashed is like my car accident with a car that smashed my car on the side as this car tried to cross the busy oncoming cars! This driver was at fault because she did not look carefully on both sides of the road before she cross! In addition, I have the right of way since my car was on the oncoming One-way road! So, which plane has the legal right to cross? The military helicopter or the 64 passenger airplane?
I am.sure the controllers.have been asking for this for years...
I thought the problem was DEI not helicopters
This headline sounds like a regulation. I thought we voted against this. I thought we were returning to the Wild West
Less than 500ft vertical separation is idiotic
I hope the families of the innocent now deceased commercial jet airliner passengers sue the crap out of the military for stupid helicopter training practices taking place in the middle of busy flight path…
Right solution
Where is the other plane they keep speaking of?
Where is the airport footage?
@@tymorgan1924 on the earthcam you can clearly see the aircraft departing DCA in the foreground with the collision in the distance to the left
If we were to name an airport after Donald tRUMP, what should we call it?
Donald Trump Marianas Trench?
HEARTBREAKING, THAT THIS WAS SO UNAVOIDABLE & THEN HEARING OF THE NEAR-MISS THE DAY EARLIER, THERE’S NO WORDS. SMH.
Move should have been made years ago.
Thank you.
Until we can insure all staff involved in the aviation industry did NOT get their jobs based off of DEI - all air traffic nation wide should be stopped. All DEI hired terminated and removed, to be replaced with qualified people. Then we can finally be safe.
This is so weird..helicopters have close collision warnings!
FAA have just wake-up and the military should have seen the danger passing on airport vicinity,a simple common sense.. justice for the dead..i hope senators should take a look at this incident to see who's to blame
Just a day ago, one of the CRJs did a go around in that same airport after getting a RA from TCAS with one of the PAT helis getting too close for comfort underneath their belly
News stations invited tens of "experts" and "former black hawk pilots", and not one simply pointed out that these helicopters were not allowed to fly above 200ft while everyone knew the accident happened at 400ft. How pointless to invite these people when none of them seem to even understand the basic regulations they are supposed to fly under.
A RUclips channel showed the rules for helicopters on the official charts within hours of the incident. It has been obvious all day that the helicopter was above the prescribed maximum height for the route taken.
Trump said it yesterday. Back when it was still taboo
Off the subject, has anyone experienced illegals being nice all of a sudden? The illegals on my road wouldn't previously give me the time of day, now they're actually approaching me and speaking like neighbors should do. This just started yesterday when I walk my dog twice daily. It's kinda weird
Should never have been open to begin with. They probably had it open for the convenience of VIPs in helicopter flights. Hope they keep it closed for public safety.
Let me get this right, choppers have been flying low & in the direct path of approaching aircraft in the past? And the FAA thought this was ok???
.....how is Trump supposed to get his late night McDonald's order now?....
Why did the controller fail to ask the copter pilot to descend to below 200???
"Let's appear to be doing something tangible to pacify an enraged populace"
FAA
Closing the corridor makes sense, but how did this tragedy happen in the first place?

Good!!
Typical answer from a trump late to the party. Why close the barn door after the horses are already gone. A hail the chief scumbag!
He caused this accident. It won’t be the last. He is stocking the government with his sycophant. None of which are qualified to run their respective government post. Hiring the best my ass!

The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorders will tell what error(s) caused this midair collision. Guessing before that is just guessing.
We have to wait for the investigation!!! The Swiss cheese model lined up for this tragedy to have happen. It is usually never a single event.
Looks even worse that the military pilot Did not see that airplane. They had to be flying eye closed. It's entirely Suspect.

Unfortunate Tragedy, preventable considering previous near misses reported, corrective action not taken, Prayer's to all Families and Fallen Angels. Leadership Accountability is a must. FAA great decision.

Hiring Freeze at the Air Traffic Control
by Trump. 😊
I have to fly into to DCA monthly. This makes me feel better about it. If the investigation takes months or a year, it was worrisome that we wouldn't see any immediate changes and these unsafe conditions would persist. It sounds like there are still a lot of issues (like too many flights), but this change helps.
30 DAYS!!?? What on earth could take that long???
With undermanned staffing at the Air Traffic Control Center why not decrease the scheduled landings?
They wait until something happens, then decide to do something
