Would like to see the winner vs. double buns
That would be interesting
Me too.
I’m new to 10s. What’s are Double buns? Can you drop a link?
@@Calcapwn300 hair buns. Hes get a few videos with them. They're cheap, easy to install and effective for most things
Thank you for this comparison episode! I know i mentioned a couple of weeks ago about this (nearly) exact thing... (The Daphne Deepwoods episode) I understand you can't just buy and test everything everyone asks you to test, but I greatly appreciate you going above and beyond to make this happen! Thank you so much for your time and passion for these great, great videos.
It makes my day when I come home from work and there’s a video like this to watch 42:28
Baja claw with squid inserts
Really enjoyed this video. I appreciate how much effort you put into making the runs as even as possible. I already have some SL3Ds in the mail and your comparison confirmed my hunch that I wouldn't want to deal with the 3bros tuning rods. Thanks for putting my curiosity at ease.
The tuning rods are blessing and curse simultaneously. The do work, and allow a single insert to be tuned for different rig weights, but I genuinely prefer the convenience of the Squids. Set it and forget it.
@@CrawlerCanyon Really? Set it and forget it? On a 5lb rig? Also, you can get 2 stage AntiFoams.
If you have a five pound rig, I can't help you-- unless you're talking about a 5lb slider, in which case, yeah, set it and forget it.
@brianmassey7563 I have squid inserts on a 5lb c2 comp rig with 2.2 wheels and 1.9 tusks stretched, they work great. I also have 3brc anti-foams single stage with tuning rods both been ran on the same truck same wheels and I like the squids better. I will be trying the flubber stuffers also to compare the 3 but overall squids win for me.
@@Loomis_Fishin nice. was just curious 'cause i run my 5.5lb rig on the 3bros softs with no rods. I get a lot of squish, but the truck does great. Not much if any vertical climbs yet though. My heavier C1 just has the rods in the back and the grip is nutz.
ICFTW 14?
You brought it up..."Wiggle it...just a little bit...", LOL. I run my 3 bros setup like the Squids look like they are setup. So tons of forward drive. To each their own when we get down to the minutia. I run all kinds of 3d printed inserts and they are great. I think what 3Bros did was to make a mass-market insert that you can adjust to the weight of the rig. The rods to induce a difference in compliance, but i've yet to notice it. Also, cutting up a crappy foam to fill the gap is all of 10 min of work. Lets see the squids vs. 3 bros on jake with the same tires and wheels. I hope the squids to great there too, because you can buy and print that file!
Always informative and keeps me interested educational. Going to do hair buns.
I've got the 3brothersrc ruptures specific dual stage and both their 4.75 single stage with tuning rods and 4.75 dual stage... just ordered my 1st set of squid inserts! I like both 4.75 but yes 3brothersrc 4.75 inserts don't fit all 4.75 tires well and they've pricey! Printed inserts and the hobbywing fusion are game changers imo but inserts are the best "upgrade" imo
Great video! One of the best straight up comparisons on RUclips 👊🏼🍻
When purchasing wheels are you trying to stay with a certain mm width of wheel on Injora’s. Injora’s, RCLions etc typically offer the same wheels in different widths a couple of bucks difference in price.
Probably 90% of the wheels here have 24mm wide inner rings. That seems to be the "standard." I have a couple sets with 19-20mm inner rings, and getting those mounted with some tires is a real bear.
I've got a set of the 3brc inserts as well. I ended up buying another pack of the tuning rods and put them in every hole around the rim, leaving the top layer open. Made them feel more like a traditional dual stage foam. I went to squids after that, and now every truck I have is going to get a set of squids. There is a new company/guy making some with a different material to print them, and a directional design, I haven't got to try a set of those yet, I will probably get some just to see how they do. I've heard good things about them so far though. Flubber stuffers or something like that, lol weird name but they look pretty interesting. Your thoughts over-all is basically the exact same as mine, I like both but I'll take squids all day over 3brc just off price & overall performance. Going to see about getting some squid inserts made for the SCX6 now, along with a cliffhanger body and some better tires for it, when I get home
When you give a warning of a long video. I immediately check my data usage and battery level. 😂😂
Great comparison! I've been a fan of Squids for a while. They'll even custom print inserts to your specifications for odd size tires.
ah heres a good topic, long time watcher first time poster. I love forgetting and coming back to see King Luffy. Ive had both these foams in both same size tires in 2 rigs that both weight under 5lbs. I have an itch that my quality of Squids in the first layer/outer is right next to nothing compared to buddies who have same tires and squids that feel more dense. maybe I need another set but I've moved back to traditional foams for my j concept "4.75" tires. Squids had no first layer to me and the antifoams where not tall enough and needed rods and disc imo but added too much weight at that point. As always quality videos and I enjoy them when i get home to decompress. Thank you!
its diffidently the quality of the first soft layer of mesh on the squids. seems i just got a bad batch. They look great on the rocks here in your video!
do you use the purple solution for 1.0 tires + wheels? Maybe that's what I need since I alwways have issues attaching beadlock wheels to the tires
Remeber to phase the tire lugs with the tuning rods so as to avoid tire chatter.
Kidding! I'm kidding. Oh, forgot to buy blinker fluid this morning. Haa haaa haaa.
Thanx for the review good sir. I found the Squid N'serts by chance, order a set, and then decided to see if the Canyon had tried them. So again, THANX for the video.
I ordered some flub spec inserts. And some megalithic tires! Can’t wait till they get here and c how they do!
Have you ever tried running a different compound front to rear like a predator in the front and the G8 in the rear?
As always great information and honesty. Thank you sir
100$ says your an english teacher.. gotta be.
@CrawlerCanyon Just rewatched this episode. I wonder how you are rating them versus the 3D printed from our Norvegian friend?
I don't know if that's a fair comparison, honestly. The Squids that are made specifically for Tusks, when used in Tusks, are pretty much the gold standard. The ones I got from Norway have been quite good in everything I've tried them in, but I don't think I've found the perfect tire+insert combo for them just yet.
Recently retired and finally have some time to play. I'm getting up to speed on the RC world and your video is very helpful. Thanks!
When fitting the inserts in the tires, an old motorcycle trick might help. Put a little talcum powder in the tire. It keeps inner tube from sticking and rolling during installation. Might work on your application too.
Stop playing with success, son. Arty is a solid control group. You messing up changing him. For real. No touchy
This hobby to me is about performance through TEST and TUNE. I myself enjoy the tunability of the 3BROS inserts.
Well then. That was a bomb drop at the end! Both inserts look great. I'll probably try squids at some point. I got the 3bros last year when the initial rush tapered off. They've been great for my use 👍
Try some baby powder(cornstarch). Just a light dusting on the inside.
I’d have to go w Squids just for being half the price
Awesome episode. I could definitely see the 3brc tuning rods changing the grip profile in advantageous ways. Which is why I passed on them. The "paddle" effect was most evident in the sand.
The gyroid infill of the squids seems much more uniform. Also seemed to solve the excessive bagging or curling effect common on j concepts. On the contrary, I don't know how you COULD tune the squids.
Neither are a slouch, but I see a clear difference in performance. I'll take the squids.
In my mind, it's a battle of "pluses minuses." The 3BRC are tunable, but this is in exchange for a "monospec" insert. The SL3D are not tunable, but you order them to fit a tire, so they're kinda "pre-tuned." I'm lazy, so I'll take pre-tuned every time. I'm also cheap, so there's that.
