Keeping the G4 eye style was definitely a good choice, and the sculpted "hoof hair" looks better too. I felt bad for that poor pony when you shoved up all this stuff in their butt though xD
Small tip for anyone looking to do a pony custom that has added wings or sculpting near the neck/back area, if possible, put the head back on first! It will help you avoid two scenarios: 1- making the shape of the sculpting/wings stick out in a way that makes it impossible to reattach the head, and 2- accidentally breaking the sculpting/added parts in the process of reattaching the head if you use too much force (especially helpful for g4 since their heads are SO HARD to put on and take off the body)
That's GREAT advice ☺️☺️ Thank you so much for sharing! (I had to remove the head's inner ring because I was afraid it would break if I pushed too hard, which happened with other customs I did :/)
@@RetroGeekCrafts you should try really hot water! I used it to fix my G4’s ridiculously dry hair,(The hot water and conditioner is working! My little sisters decided to put soap (it makes doll hair super frizzy) all over the ponies and they are now back to the way they were before 😑) the heads become so soft! I was amazed they just squished really easy! I didn’t try taking the heads off, but I’d try that, also try turning the head backwards and pulling it off from the side that’s facing the body! I did that with my first custom!(it turned out terrible, I was around 9)
@@RetroGeekCrafts You should look into some custom Monster High and Barbie channels, they have great techniques for removing heads and taking out the hair.
I think the reason the G4 eyes “work” has to do with how we perceive characters/faces. Unless you’re depicting a particular expression, you generally want the iris fill most of the visible eye, otherwise you get a perpetually surprised expression, especially with the high brow ridge and the eyebrows being so prominent.
!! TIP !! When removing the g4 heads I really recommend boiling the water, letting the head soak, then pulling it off. It is softer with the hot water but it hardens right back up after without damage.
For "tuftier" (for lack of a better word) hair, I usually see doll customizers use brushed out yarn wefts; it's more easily set to a shape with just fingers, since it naturally wants to clump up.
I’m so glad you changed the wings! I’m one of the few people who really like Zipp’s design more than her original concept designs. The wings being emphasized by her colors really gives her that feeling of “gotta go fast”.
I really like how you leave in the sound from your footage - all the little clicks and rustles of hearing you work is actually strangely satisfying! But it's not so loud that it's distracting. It really works with your presentation style! 💖
I see a lot of pony tips, but didn’t see much to address how you wished you could have kept the hair cleaner in the comments! I style wigs a lot and I’d recommend using hair gel to twirl the ends together between your fingers and turn it into more of a defined spike! A little just at the ends goes a long way, so you don’t lose the hair texture completely. Got2b Glued is a great brand for long lasting strength, without going full glue 😂
Ahh thank you so much for the tip!! I think that would have worked much better. I was so tired by the end of the project I just wanted it done. I hope I can experiment more next time ☺️ I will check that glue out!
I absolutely adore the gradient you added to her wings!!! The hair above the hooves is a major improvement as well! These videos are so calming and I absolutely love them. The little warnings you give are also amazing! Even though I don't really mind what you're warning about (for example, I don't really mind seeing trypophobia stuff) but just seeing the warnings there makes me super happy and makes me feel all warm 💖
I’ve been watching since your very early renovations, and it’s really cool seeing your audience and style grow. Love the voiceover and little safety reminders!!
Thank you so much for the trypophobia alert! As someone who has bad trypophobia, it’s super nice to see people actually know and care about others who have it
Okay so, since I didn't see the movie, it's a bit hard to judge how well you represented the character, but as a custom on it's own, I adore this pony! The wings are probably the most stunning part, with that awesome gradient, but honestly I love it all. And it looks way better than Izzy did. While I'm not a sculptor, a tip for the eyes from someone who draws and paints - I see how it may be difficult to change the expression since the eyes come with the sculpt. I would suggest making only small variations to the overall shape of the eye, but play around with the position and size of the irises, and the size of the pupils too. Depending on if they are more or less contracted, it affects the expression a lot. Generally speaking, for the eyebrows, you'll want them lower, closer to the eyes, for more tense expressions - frowns and so on, while very raised eyebrows will be used for happier, dreamier or more surprised expressions. If you play with both the irises/pupils and the eyebrows, you should be able to attain quite a lot of expressions without having to really touch the sculpt or anything.
Thank you so much for your tips!! I really want to try the lower eyebrows, I feel that could make a nice difference. I hope I can try more variations soon ☺️☺️
First of all I love those wings. You got the gradient down perfect and it looks spectacular; I'd say even better than the movie depicted it. I also love the details on the hooves though I do prefer the carved method over the silly putt method, I will say that this does work better for the character considering that they're supposed to be feathers. As for the hair, I think your problem was not bringing it forward enough and that you should have lowered the hairline further onto the head basically where the horn would sit is where her... Bouffant needs to be 😂 (seriously, what is that hair style called????) I also think a mohawk with a suited her just fine. You may also want to try styling gel just by itself to see if it'll hold the hair in a more organic way and you also need to learn how to give a proper ragged cut so that the ends look natural instead of snipped at one angle. As for the eyes, I don't hate them but they are a little too cutesy for what it's supposed to be a more bad ass character than the others have been, also having the eyebrows that high gives her a bit of a jovial / confused expression. Determined eyebrows is what you should be aiming for. Overall I give this figure an 8/10!
THANK YOU for the trypophobia alert! I have it, and it was very thoughtful of you to include the warning! it was very nice not randomly having to see it, and skipping that part made it so I was able to fully enjoy the video.
Damn she’s so pretty!!! I think keeping the G4 eyes but adding the larger wings and more hair holes definitely succeeded in blending G4 and G5 designs! Also that gradient on the feathers is SOOOO SATISFYING!!!
This is so cool! I think you did the right thing keeping the eye shape. The paint job is spot-on and so pretty. You are always getting better and better, thank you for sharing everything!
the painting was so skilful, the lines of the eyes were so little and clean and the blending on the wings was sooo smooth and gorgeous, extremely satisfying to watch! i think you did a wonderful job :D
I love that you tried my sculpt the hoof hair suggestion, it looks great. And keeping the G4 eye style did wonders for making them look good on the body.
Let me be honest. I might not be your target demographic here (19 years old, male) but I love the figures and toys, and what I love more is customizing them. I followed this video from the beginning and I am surprised to see how it came out! You are a very skilled artist. Zipp is the last pony I got, an Egmont figure from a magazine (the only official Hasbro figures that ship to my country). I have around 15 Egmont figures and some 10 brushables. I got them out the last summer and picked a custom rainbow dash. I renamed it to Daniel and removed the colors from its hair and tail, they both became purple. Making that custom was kind of complicated cause I merged the body of a brushable with the mane and tail of the mechanical rainbow dash set (the one with moving legs and wings and a mail hat, I don't remember the name) Thanks for your patience with toys. Such an art!
13:38 you are such a good person like for real. It's showing it by you petting that poor thing oowww after totally destroing her hole. Omg im screaming 10/10
i don’t have trypophobia, but wow, that was so thoughtful that you put a trigger warning for it!! i feel like a lot of creators don’t think about that stuff. good job :))
3:10 It you heat up the material by dunking the head into warm/hot water, you'd be able to pop the head off of the neck peg without having to use the exacto knife. If you don't with to do that, you can also use a hair dryer to warm up the material (which makes it softer) and it'll be an easy pop.
Awesome job, a major improvement over Izzy. The sculpted hooves looked really good, and staying with the G4 eyes was a wise decision. I believe, if you ever decided to modify your Izzy custom (not that anything is wrong with her now, she looks great) just adding a little sculpt to the hooves and changing the eyes to G4 would make a big difference. Your painting continues to improve, and impress. Very nice job on the wings! Especially since they didn’t want to cooperate. If you plan on doing many more G4 re-hairs, it looks like a job specific re-hairing tool for inserting the tail, could be easily constructed from a large sailmakers needle and a piece of dowel, or small file handle.
Thank you so much 😊🥰 When I broken my rerooting needle I tired to make another using a regular large seeing needle. The two "versions" I made broke very easily. I think it has to do with how the steel is "pulled" tómale those ends. The teeth of the rerooting needles never break for me. Have you tried the sailmakers one? Maybe it's different than the ones I had, which weren't particularly high quality. I need to try! It's really hard to find good rerooting tools!
If you need to re-hair A alicorn-style doll's tail. Twist a drill bit into the socket to remove the old hair. then to replace the hair double it up. drip a bit of glue on the loop to make a hard plug. then drip the same glue into the tail slot on the doll. Just before pushing the plug in.
Here’s a small tip, before taking out the hair, try placing the head in a bowl of semi-hot water, it can help soften the glue and allow you to take the hair out more quickly
Zipp finished product is so purrfect, just a tip i dip the g4 body to hot water for 5 - 10 mins and remove it slowly. You should try it. It softens the rubber
You can put the head in hot water for some seconds before taking of the head because the hot water make the vinyl of the head really soft and probably you won't need to make cuts in the neck :)
i know this video is kinda old, but my tip for more expressions: change the eye shapes too! it usually looks weird when you have normally opened eyes and furrowed eyebrows or with one eyebrow raised, etc. the eyes must change shapes too for it to look natural!
I'm new to my little pony customization so idk if it would work but heating the head up slightly just till it's slightly squishy in hot water or with a hair dryer helps doll customizers remove the head of dolls and it melts the glue enough to make it easier to scrap the hair plugs out.
I Like how You actually did her hair like Zipp!! The MLP toys I have of Zipp just curled her hair on top and honestly it doesn’t look anything like Zipps hair !! Keep up the good work
Zipp turned out super cute 😍 I just thrifted a pony in a mixed bag that needs a restoration 😲 someone already removed all the mane hair 🤔 and the poor ponies foot has a chunk out of it 😳
I love your videos! There's a bit of magic in turning the mass-produced ponies into one that's truly unique with a bit of personal touch, like a breath of life into their plastic. I hope I can get the skill and tools to personalize a few of my ponies and littlest pet shop pets someday, your videos are very inspiring and educational; and it's wonderful to be able to take nostalgic children's toys and still be able to "play" with them as adults by putting artistic skills into them to make them into something even more.
Sweet Celestia Zipp Storm looks Fantastic!!! You could save the Alicorn body and twilight unicorn horn for another customization repaint project. See you on your next video. :)
The sculpted feathering on the hooves definitely worked out better than the carved feathering. Looks like the wings were a struggle to paint, like the type of vinyl just refused to take the paint nicely.
I'm no expert at non-G1 ponies or crafting, but I think the improvement is huge as far as the eyes are concerned. I see what you mean about an expression but I quite like it this way personally. I like the hooves better this time, although I wondered if making them out of real hair or fur wouldn't solve the dilemma you've been having about them (or maybe I've been watching too many doll customization videos). I quite like the wing's gradient, too :) Thank you for caring so much about these little friends, this one really was a rescue mission ! 13:38 I spilled my drink XD
@@RetroGeekCrafts : there has to be other examples out there but the first one that came to mind was Dollightful's "Repaint! Halloween Special Demon Girl OOAK Doll" video (I don't think I can put links in my comment). The process is shown around the 15min mark :)
I wonder if you could get the hair to sculpt into shape better if you got it wet with diluted glue (maybe even elmers or something weaker but still sticky like that) and just let it dry down into the shape you want. It might work for super tall looks like Zipp has
I recommend a pin vise and paper clips for pinning as paper clips are a bit more sturdy and you can often get several models worth of pins from a single paper clip.
@@RetroGeekCrafts Thank you for replying to my comment, it's really nice to know that you read them and care enough to reply. So thank you! You make us all happy

Her mane looks so full and beautiful 😱 I've thought about trying my hand at making series accurate customs of the g4s if I can get my hands on some spares, but I wasn't sure if punching extra holes in their heads to give them beautiful, thick manes would turn out right. But now I'm determined to do it!
Tip for removing heads, soak them in hot water/heat them with a hairdryer before removing them. Then heat them up with a hair Dryer again before reattaching 😁
Customs are very interesting to watch! I'd like to see a g1 custom pony for example rapunzel or mimic, that is, those that are very hard to find in the original 🥰
Hi there! There's actually an easier way to remove the hair in the head! :) If you let the head sit in warm water for 10 to 20 minutes (I think Abt that long) it'll make the glues soft and it'll be a lot easier to take out the hair! :)
Love the little finger and hand movements you make to pass the time, like when you were waiting for the epoxy glue to set! So cute! :) I do little fiddle-y gestures like that with my hands too in order to pass the time when I’m bored or waiting for something.
for removing the hair internally, have you considered heating up the head to melt the glue? and for the hairstyle, how about trying out some yarn wefts? they tend to keep their shape pretty well! and you can make a nice dollop. alternatively maybe just try gluing the tips of the hair to the supporting structure and a little bit down so you could potentially get that onion shape :)
I actually hadn't considered that. My fear would be that the paint would get too thick in some places and not enough in others. An airbrush would be a great thing to try, I just need a room that is ventilated. Thank you so much for your message and support 😊😊

i know this video is kinda old, but my tip for more expressions: change the eye shapes too! it usually looks weird when you have normally opened eyes and furrowed eyebrows or with one eyebrow raised, etc. the eyes must change shapes too for it to look natural!
She came out great! You should try water slide decals for the eyes
That's a great idea! Thank you 😊😊
I'm new to my little pony customization so idk if it would work but heating the head up slightly just till it's slightly squishy in hot water or with a hair dryer helps doll customizers remove the head of dolls and it melts the glue enough to make it easier to scrap the hair plugs out.
Thank you so much for the tip! 😊 I think that would definitely work. I will try next time!
I Like how You actually did her hair like Zipp!! The MLP toys I have of Zipp just curled her hair on top and honestly it doesn’t look anything like Zipps hair !! Keep up the good work
Oh thanks! It wasn't the best result but I tried ☺️☺️
Zipp turned out super cute 😍 I just thrifted a pony in a mixed bag that needs a restoration 😲 someone already removed all the mane hair 🤔 and the poor ponies foot has a chunk out of it 😳
Thank you so much 😊😊 Ohhh that's so good that ou rescued a pony! I hope you have lots of fun fixing it :)
@@RetroGeekCrafts Oh you're welcome Hun 😊 Yes hopefully I can fix this cute sweet pony up she definitely needs it 🤗🥰🤗
THE WINGS OMG this is amazing!!
Thank you so much 😊😊
You are very talented! I love your repairs and remakes. ❤️
Thank you so much 😊😊
She's stunning!!
Thank you 😊😊
I love your videos!
Those eyes were amazing
Thank you 😊😊
Sweet Celestia Zipp Storm looks Fantastic!!! You could save the Alicorn body and twilight unicorn horn for another customization repaint project. See you on your next video. :)
Thank you so much 😊😊 I saved both do I hope I can do a new one soon!
This looks great! My favorite parts are the wings and the fetlocks.
Thank you!! ❤️❤️
Just wanted to admit how cool looked "the Dark Twilight" 😈
Hehehe yeah 😊😊
Hii you did an amazing job! I have a question, what do you do after fixing a toy do you keep it or sell it or give it to someone?
Thank you so much 😊😊 I keep al the toys I fix, although I'm planning on auctioning them in the future because I don't have much space left xD
The sculpted feathering on the hooves definitely worked out better than the carved feathering. Looks like the wings were a struggle to paint, like the type of vinyl just refused to take the paint nicely.
Thank you 😊😊 Yeah, the wings were a little damaged by the acetone and I had to repaint twice, so the result was not very smooth. But I learned a lot!
I quite like the wing's gradient, too :)
Thank you for caring so much about these little friends, this one really was a rescue mission !
13:38 I spilled my drink XD
I have to check those hairy hooves videos! ☺️☺️ It sounds like a great idea. Thank you so much for your message!
@@RetroGeekCrafts : there has to be other examples out there but the first one that came to mind was Dollightful's "Repaint! Halloween Special Demon Girl OOAK Doll" video (I don't think I can put links in my comment). The process is shown around the 15min mark :)
I love the wings so much!!!
That poor twilight, thank you for making something new from someone else's ruins
Hehe thank you 😊😊
I wonder if you could get the hair to sculpt into shape better if you got it wet with diluted glue (maybe even elmers or something weaker but still sticky like that) and just let it dry down into the shape you want. It might work for super tall looks like Zipp has
I recommend a pin vise and paper clips for pinning as paper clips are a bit more sturdy and you can often get several models worth of pins from a single paper clip.
Thank you for the tip!! ☺️☺️
This pony is now so much happier
I'm glad you feel that way ☺️☺️
@@RetroGeekCrafts Thank you for replying to my comment, it's really nice to know that you read them and care enough to reply. So thank you! You make us all happy
Abrazos 😊😊
WOOOOOOOW, IM REALLY IMPRESSED, HOW PATIENTE, HOW TALENT! I LOVED THE RESULT! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much for your message!! 😊😊
Her wings are so pretty 😻😻
Thank you 😊😊
Her mane looks so full and beautiful 😱
I've thought about trying my hand at making series accurate customs of the g4s if I can get my hands on some spares, but I wasn't sure if punching extra holes in their heads to give them beautiful, thick manes would turn out right. But now I'm determined to do it!
Thank you so much 😊😊 Yes!!! I'm glad you are encouraged :D I hope you have lots of fun!
Tip for removing heads, soak them in hot water/heat them with a hairdryer before removing them. Then heat them up with a hair Dryer again before reattaching 😁
Thank you so much for the tip!! 😊😊
Te quedó hermosa!! Además gracias por poner subtitulos en español, adoro este canal!!! ❤️❤️❤️🦄🐴
Muchas gracias ☺️☺️
the way you called the horn a “unicorn” was really funny
Yes, they are both unicorns in Spanish 😁🦄
This looks PERFECT. I hope I can become good enough at my craft to make things like this
Thank you so much, that's very kind. I hope you do lots of customs too :) :)
Customs are very interesting to watch!
I'd like to see a g1 custom pony for example rapunzel or mimic, that is, those that are very hard to find in the original 🥰
Thank you 😊 I'd love to do those! Especially Mimic, she's the best :D
Hi there! There's actually an easier way to remove the hair in the head! :) If you let the head sit in warm water for 10 to 20 minutes (I think Abt that long) it'll make the glues soft and it'll be a lot easier to take out the hair! :)
Thank you so much for your tip!! I will definitely try the next time 😊😊
Love the little finger and hand movements you make to pass the time, like when you were waiting for the epoxy glue to set! So cute! :) I do little fiddle-y gestures like that with my hands too in order to pass the time when I’m bored or waiting for something.
im genuinely shocked the horns arent hollow. idk why i expected them to be
Wow you saved that poor bait. Soooo pretty. I would love to see that pony on my shelf.
Thank you 😊😊
for removing the hair internally, have you considered heating up the head to melt the glue? and for the hairstyle, how about trying out some yarn wefts? they tend to keep their shape pretty well! and you can make a nice dollop. alternatively maybe just try gluing the tips of the hair to the supporting structure and a little bit down so you could potentially get that onion shape :)
Thank you so much for the tips! I will try them ☺️☺️
I'm glad to be here again!!
You are amazing and make great videos!! I absolutely love this pony, she is wonderful😊
Thank you SO SO SO much 😊😊
You so creative! :0 I love that! You’re so good at making other types of pony out of old ones!🤩🤩🤩
Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️
Mhm! Ofc!😁
Amazing zipp is my second favorite my first is Izzy moonbow favorite
She's my favourite 😊😊
@@RetroGeekCrafts ^•^
@@RetroGeekCrafts also you did an amazing job on it :D
When doing a complete color change, would it be easier to do a dunk in the paint after priming it? Your customs and restorations are so gorgeous.
I actually hadn't considered that. My fear would be that the paint would get too thick in some places and not enough in others. An airbrush would be a great thing to try, I just need a room that is ventilated. Thank you so much for your message and support 😊😊
