An afternoon session fishing for trout with micro swimbaits. I had an absolute blast, caught a bunch of fish and saw some really cool eats. Swimbait used: Biovex Joint Bait 72sf
Nice video. I like your rod and reel setup. I’ve been using an eggbeater reel for my lighter trout lure fishing. What’s your setup, do you find it more accurate for casting in smaller streams?
I find it more fun but with ultra light lures it can be a little impractical at times. Cast accuracy is slightly better with heavier lures but under 3g I find it hard to consistently cast accurately in tight spaces with bfs. My outfit isn't really meant for tight streams either and they do make rods and reels dedicated to that sort of fishing but they can become rather expensive for a specialised bit of kit. My outfit in the vid is a majorcarft volkey bfs 682l and an alphas air, I also have the 692xul which can cast lighter lures again but these swimbaits are actually pretty heavy
Always amazes how you catch trout in that small stream. Pack up ur bros and do a trip to fish for the monsters in the sporning run up the snowies stud.
The season has just closed for trout in rivers this year. Once the season opens and it warms up again somewhere like Marysville makes for a good family destination with plenty of options for streams to fish. Every stream that comes off the great dividing range in North east vic has trout if you are keen to explore some more remote locations
Its a lot of fun, this one is on the heavier side for trout streams. It's rated 4-12lb and 1/16-1/4oz cast weight, normally would fish a lighter rod but these swimbaits are pretty heavy
Swim baiting trout is always good fun when there on the chew
It sure is, they definitely fire the fish up
When using swim baits do you add weights to your line for a further cast?
Just tie the lure on, this one I added some weight to the lure to change the sink rate but that isn't necessary
What kind of gear are you using for this kind of micro swimbait stuff? ... Rod action, reel size...
These swimbaits are actually pretty heavy so don't need to go too light. The outfit here is a 3-8lb rod and an alphas air

Missed the shot at the spawn run this year although I did get onto something else instead, just need to catch up on edits
Amazing fishing mate. Can you recommend some spots for river streams in East Melbourne where I can have a nice trips with family?

I had to laugh when you said micro swimbaits.
Lets just say they are smaller than what Ben Milliken throws in the Bassmaster comps 😉
Those swimbaits are big enough to eat these hahaha
Hi mate them weights you have on them what are they? And are they just glued on?
They are biovex weight seals, they have an adhesive on them but I super glued them on as well to make sure they stay on
Always wanted to try a baitcaster with trout, what is the specs of your outfit?
