So specifically w/ the hands/neck, he paints those two things to represent insecurity in the things he creates (his hands) and his voice/words (neck); they've been doing concept albums that try to tell a story through the whole album recently, pretty sweet stuff.
Tyler is not singing about a relationship but about how he shouldn’t have been so hard on himself and he should’ve stayed better on his walk as a Christian/God. It just Tyler (writes,sings,piano,guitar) & Josh (Drummer) who’s working the grill. Amazing guys, there’s deep messages in all their songs!! Ode to Sleep, Fairly Local , Lane Boy & Ride are some good ones. Enjoy!

Man you gotta do more TØP! Ok so there is LORE very deep lore with this band. Someone already explained the painted neck and hands. Everything is about Tyler’s mental health and his fight with suicidal ideation. (He hasn’t said it but think he is bipolar) he has a song called polarize. He created a world called Dema that represent the dark parts of his mind where he gets trapped. There are characters called the 9 bishops (blurryface aka nico) each representing insecurities etc. He is fighting getting out of Dema with the help of banditos(fans and the drummer josh) and his music (ned a little creature representing creativity notice NEDS BREADS on the buns) Again this goes soooo deep but just so you have a slight understanding. The color yellow can’t be seen by bishops means hope. (Notice that later on in videos to come) Lore is in EVERY SINGLE SONG except for a couple. Not every song has a video but there is still lore in them. NOT ONE SONG sounds the same they don’t have a genre except BAD ASS that’s it! If you want to jump into the lore videos do in order. This album Clancy is the end of this lore though. You don’t have to know the lore to love their songs but you will be like WTF r they talking about which is fine you can still jam. If you want the lore videos here they are. Lane boy, Ride, Car Radio, Stressed out, Fairly local, Heavy Dirty Soul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, Levitate(rap rap), Chlorine, Shy Away(this is about them being trapped in Dema and controlled by bishops to play pop sounding music it’s all propaganda they had a live at theaters that explained that) Saturday, The Outside, Overcompensate, Next semester(this is abt him in college where he was very depressed and fighting suicide) Backslide. That’s where we are there is a video dropping on each song for this new album may 24th. Now THERE IS MUCH LORE and MANY killer songs that don’t have videos. We will guide you! If you do this TØP journey the fans will show up! Their fan base is insane! Let’s GOOOOOO!
TOP are a paradox of hugely popular but not well known, working their way in and out of genres and musical styles. I so, so recommend going back through their catalogue. You could pretty much just search them on youtube and start clicking vids, but if you go more chronologically, there's a whole story that unfolds. It will be well worth your time, they are incredible, even more so live. I see some recs already, in addition to those I'd add Car Radio, Migraine, The Judge, Hometown...then the trio of Music videos for Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, and Levitate. After that, Morph, My Blood, Chlorine, Level of Concern, Redecorate, Overcompensate...I'd better stop there. It's tempting to just say 'listen to one album after another' but videos are fun to react to, and it's a little less overwhelming. Anyway, loved this reaction, would love to see you do more TOP.
