From watching Andy I gained encouragement for using my fingers and mostly dropping my pick, something I tended to do already, a fair bit, but more so now, very cool demos Andy!
yes, my flanger has a distant almost rotary wobble sound in the background. I have the retro sonic flanger which is wonderful, but that little back ground sound gets a little annoying. Do you happen to own this mr black pedal? does it give noise?
@@sethlover6498 I don't have one, but I had the spare cash this would be one that I would buy. Catalinabread also base a very nice through-zero flanger
@@sethlover6498really late reply, but do you know how flanger works? Essentially, it takes your signal, copies it, and adds a slight delay to the copy, the length of the delay modulates, or moves up and down. So it will start quick and get slower and back again. This shifting of the delayed signal causes the flanger sound. Most flangers only shift back and forth about 90 degrees. In audio waves, if you copy a sound and offset the peaks by 180 degrees, it causes the sounds to cancel each other out so you can have two sounds cranked but literally hear nothing. Kind of like one signal is a positive and the other is a negative. Together they equal zero. This is what a through zero flanger does, it offsets the copy by up to 180 degrees. As the delay time in the flanger changes, eventually it approaches the 180 degree point, which causes it to go silent for a split second, aka “pass through zero”. Complicated, but hope it helps.
All Andy's videos are awesome! I watch 'em all, even if I have no real interest in the product. However, after watching this video, I am interested in this pedal. See what you did there? Good work :)
One of the reasons I bought the mod factor was the alleged through zero flange mode...doesn't cancel out like that at all...I held on to my line 6 liqui-flange since it does it quite well.
Man, you guys are awesome! I have one question, how come you guys never use a pick? Is it to get a certain sound? I've done it before, but I just want to know.
No doubt. Picks are good tools. But playing like this shows you can do so much without. I wish i could use my right hand this way and will try to practice more.
Mr Black and Walrus are conceiving along similar paths.Personally, I've found Walrus a good mix of analog simplicity ,and more modern clarity and definition. You do pay for the higher quality components, with some of their more advanced designs up there with Strymon, both quality and price wise.Once you break the $300 mark, you better be bringing it.( I can see ,in the near future, even that ceiling is likely to rise.) In the past, I've really liked some of the Mr.Black concepts, but have found they don't always play well with other pedals. Not sure, but I think it's an impedance or headroom thing. They do seem to be upping their game, as the market has offered more buyers willing to spend the money, provided that the quality/ features are there.
Bring on the night, couldn't stand another hour of daylight.... appears that Andy even has a black-on-black stratocaster like Sting did during the Dream of the Blue Turtles days.
The tone at the beginning is the best flange I've heard, but the fact you can't get that sound without it cutting out immediately makes this pedal something I'd never buy.
He has it set for through zero flanging with phase cancellation, like in the original version of this song and in House Burning Down by Hendrix. It's possible to dial in this sort of flange sound without going into full cancellation. It's a great pedal, don't write it off so quickly.
ben miskoff yeah, when the LFO reaches a certain point in the cycle, it’s cutting out, how annoying is that? I love Mr Black, the Supermoon, The Downward Spiral.. they rule, but this one? If Andy couldn’t lose the glitch, I’m sure it’s real prominent.
That's when it's going "through zero" the two signals cancel each other out, that's the way it's supposed to work. It's not a "glitch". This thing does "negative" TZF, I wonder if it does "positive" TZF?
THIS PEDAL WOULD'NT BE WORTH ME SPENDING MONEY ON ONE , THE ONLY SETTING ID EVER USE WOULD BE CHORUS AND I HAVE A KILLER BOSS CHORUS BUT I DID ENJOY THE VIDEO .
I loved it when Andy BROUGHT ON THE NIGHT!!!
From watching Andy I gained encouragement for using my fingers and mostly dropping my pick, something I tended to do already, a fair bit, but more so now, very cool demos Andy!
man during the intro andy showed off his right hand skills with the queen tune. nice job
Beautiful, clean sound--very organic. a lot of flangers suffer from being noisy and have a "pumping" sound from the lfo.

this flanger sounds great! one of my top 3 fav flangers!
Sounds exactly like "Keep Yourself Alive" by Queen. Awesome pedal !
It's "Bring On the Night" by the Police.
@@asnark7115The intro song was by Queen
I've been waiting so long for this demo!
Distortion and overdrive were placed before the Tunnelworm. Thanks,
PGS
pretty decent sounding flanger !
"Full signal cancellation, at certain points of the cycle."
I think Andy covered that pretty well.
Yeh as a through zero flanger passes through the zero point the signal is out of phase and cancelled out the dry signal
With the Blackout SST Fuzz I loved it even more
Andy could you do a video of some of your favorite pedal chain combos ?
All Andy's videos are awesome! I watch 'em all, even if I have no real interest in the product. However, after watching this video, I am interested in this pedal. See what you did there? Good work :)
The les Paul tone was the best.
Love "Bring On The Night" and "Keep Yourself Alive"!
For sure you can (: just keep practicing good luck man I hope to see a video of you playing one day
great sounding pedal
Bring On The Night - The Police - Reggata de Blanc - 1979 Way to go Andy
He does mention full signal cancellation at 1:53
At 2:34 "Bring on the Night" by The Police.
One of my fav track with "darkness" and many others ;)
Thanks for this nice demo Andy !
4:23 ... thought I was in church! That was awesome Andy!
THE AFTERNOON LOOKS DIIIIIIIIIIIIMLY...............YAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!

shoutout for the Liqua-Flange
that's because as you heard Andy say, this reproduced the 70s effect, where there was a cut at certain parts of the waveform.
Its all clear now!
whats the song where he steps on the fuzz first time, and the last song?
yo pgs at around 6:40 when the distortion is kicked on, where is the distortion placed? before or after the flanger? thanks
What was the distortion unit used at 3:30? This pedal is awesome!
It sounds like the signal gets cut off for a split second when the wave form its the highest part.
Can somebody remind me where the intro riff comes from?
anybody knows what's the last song?
What is the outro riff/song?
Thank you :3
Man, you guys are awesome!
I have one question, how come you guys never use a pick?
Is it to get a certain sound?
I've done it before, but I just want to know.
I want one so bad! Is the TZF on there good?
What is he playing at 5:50?
Here from voodoo child slight return because this is partly what made that record sound like it does.
whats that riff at 2:40?
What is the song at the end on the Les Paul???
I got to know what he is playing at 2:30. Thats some sick finger playing
what's the title of the song? :O
yea it says so in the video; 1:46 thru 1:56
Damn that's clean sounding!! Daddy rikey.
No doubt. Picks are good tools. But playing like this shows you can do so much without. I wish i could use my right hand this way and will try to practice more.
It's a good box, but I think the Electric Mistress is a better investment.
Great video and review.
bring on the night, by the Police

I totally noticed that - thought it might just be my speakers or something. Needs an explanation from Andy fer-sure.
True you dont need one but well for some people like me makes it much easier to play with one.

that's why it's 'through-zero'...
totally thought the intro was gonna be barracuda
This in my opinion is the closest to an original electric mistress
Is it me or is there some sort of glitching sound?

You are only second place to Jeff Beck in convincing me the electric guitar is not an instrument that requires a pick.
Fucking Queen!
I like it when he plays Sting's "Bring on the Night"'s riff!

Jet city music is doing better demos than PGS now. You either need to step it up Andy or run and hide.
Guitaronthebrain77 Ha! Think again.
god, sounds horrible.
ouch - worst demo ever.... buy a new patch cable
What you're hearing is phase cancellation intentionally created by the effect. 1:52
Amazing how fucking clueless RUclips fools are.
