Yeah it's definitely riding the '80s into the 90s vibe. Personally I like it but that's the era that I fell in love with cars in. It seems to be the right size and right proportions for someone like me. The issue with the car is that it's an M. I am very attracted to this car though there are some things that I don't know why I don't quite like. I have to go back and revisit the normal 2 series and see if it has slightly less bulgy fenders as I see that's going to be a more viable car. At the end of the day it's an M car so it's not for everybody and will be extraordinary for better or worse. I'm finding a lot of cars grow on me after sometime and aren't nearly as offensive. One thing I don't quite understand is the need to have the entire lineup share so much language. I think Mercedes actually got super annoying when it became kind of hard to distinguish their cars. I like that the a series looks a bit different than the rest of it. I like when models can stand on their own and maybe have a few elements from other things but they don't have to be chained together but I guess that is the European way of tiering cars. Car design is about design language and how it evolves. Product design is approached in the same way, but for car design there’s a lot more emotional attachment. Shoe design comes to mind with how much emotional attachment and personality extension is involved. BMW’s approach to design pushes and evolves the entire design language when a new gen comes out. I think once you understand BMW’s design principles and approach to BMW design language evolution over time, you will understand a lot of the design decisions that are taken. If you want a revamped gen that’s why they have the LCI program. But when a new gen comes out it’s pushed beyond. Also BMW internally is a generation ahead, meaning they already know what the new gen of this looks like and are refining it. They are way ahead of us in terms of understanding design decisions and I guarantee they already know the reactions that are coming. And this is what they want. BMW likes to push the design language as part of its ethos. I’d prefer this over Audi, AMG, Maserati and even dare I say it, Porsche
The interior is almost perfect. They should've put the analog gauges from base model 3 series in it and right next to it the bigger screen. That combo would've been so well integrated and absolutely perfect.🤌
While driving my School Bus route today i saw one parked and running and was like what is that until i realized. It didn’t look bad in person just very different and aggressive.
I think the old M2s look better unfortunately and I don't like that this one is bigger and heavier. Agree the side does look good but the bonnet is too big. The back, I think that new line could actually be a very good addition, but I think they've done the bit below wrong- it should tuck in more.
I just read about the new m2 and was sure you were going to release a video. I immediately opened youtube and, sure enough, you posted a video 2 minutes ago!
i think thay you didn't mention the long overhang at the front- the advantage of rear wheel drive cars in comparison to front wheel drive ones. it is apparent when we are looking at it from an angle at the front. very nice video!
Yup, the kidneys are fine but not really fan of the box intakes for the front. Same goes for the rear end for the boxy proportions. Gonna miss the analog dash though.
12:06 100% disagree. The interior on previous M models was dead. It’s like sitting in a regular car. Nothing special about how the interior was. And actually many people did’t get one because the interior was too bland.
i think the abundance of ipad dashboard are a result (at least partly) of supply chain issues, it's way easier to get a rectangular slab of screen and implement a digital display than to create a dash that has many physical buttons and dashes. I hope in the future the ipads will go away, or at least not completely taking up the dash...

Eh? No! BMW tries to stand out with ugly Design! It's like the loud and weird People that shout LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!😜
@@einautofan6685 It's more there trying to attract a new Clientele.
Most people who like their current lineup Hated previous models.
The interior is almost perfect. They should've put the analog gauges from base model 3 series in it and right next to it the bigger screen. That combo would've been so well integrated and absolutely perfect.🤌
analog gauges don't make any sense, but the bmw style digita, gauges suck with the opposing rev and mph dials
@@roboticvenom1935 Why do they not make any sense?
The round square body panels doesn't work for me...previous gen looks better
While driving my School Bus route today i saw one parked and running and was like what is that until i realized. It didn’t look bad in person just very different and aggressive.
Happy to see BMW is focusing on diversity and hiring more blind people in design department. They must get good ESG score.
I however do like that the models look different from each other.
I would absolutely hate to see a Passat being just a prolongated Golf.
The X5 MSport has the same design identity. It's so nice. I really appreciate this new M2
i think thay you didn't mention the long overhang at the front- the advantage of rear wheel drive cars in comparison to front wheel drive ones.
it is apparent when we are looking at it from an angle at the front.
very nice video!
Yup, the kidneys are fine but not really fan of the box intakes for the front. Same goes for the rear end for the boxy proportions. Gonna miss the analog dash though.
I actually think this is one of the best design BMW made it for years I absolutely love the car.

100% disagree.
The interior on previous M models was dead. It’s like sitting in a regular car. Nothing special about how the interior was. And actually many people did’t get one because the interior was too bland.
Coming to the streets of Toronto!
I know you've reviewed a couple of Audis, but I'd like to see your take on the most beautiful one: The TT RS
It's funny because people have been saying this forever. Everyone made fun of the E90 but now it's a classic shape
LOL carbon fiber roof to save 6kg after adding like 200kg
The new car has strong E30, E36, R34 vibes. I like it.
I own a E30 and this new M2 is blocky in all the wrong ways
I am so glad that i ve decided 1.5 yrs ago to get an F87 M2C instead of waiting for the new one … best decision ever 💫
This grill looks so much bether than the ones on the m3/m4.
It really is a new style of the classic BMW grills.
i think the abundance of ipad dashboard are a result (at least partly) of supply chain issues, it's way easier to get a rectangular slab of screen and implement a digital display than to create a dash that has many physical buttons and dashes. I hope in the future the ipads will go away, or at least not completely taking up the dash...
I’m glad that modern BMWs are so the ultimate driving machine, but they really started to look fucking terrible recently, and I hate it. They may still be the ultimate driving machine, but they don’t look like the ultimate driving machine anymore
Fully agree they are all butt ugly, the newer generation X6M is super ugly all their vehicles are super ugly, if Lexus get some better looking vehicles everybody would leave bmw immediately
@@hulk-smash-deez-hose.7951 I mean, like I said: BMWs STILL drive like BMWs, but they don’t look like BMWs anymore. That’s all I was saying. No Lexus can drive like a BMW, nor does any Lexus carry the status of a BMW (Lexuses are still seen as old men’s cars, and any attempts from them to change that brand image has proven futile)
@@mrsoisauce9017 there’s no doubt bmw is the ultimate driving machine over Lexus, but am only telling you the truth, bmw has gotten so ugly, if Lexus were to get some real good looking vehicles, I guarantee you people would ditch these ugly bmws, after 2019 every model release from bmw 2020 is very ugly, the beaver grills, the electric bmws they are all ugly, older bmws will skyrocket in value, because enthusiasts are going to focus on older models.
I like it. People are still gonna buy it. Just like the new m3/4. Stop complaining if you are.
This new M2 lacks a lot what BMW used to represent, it's very bloby with square details that don't really make much sense.
Comparing this to the new M4, i really like the Huge vertical intakes all of a sudden...
It’s way better designed than the previous model.more focused & straightforward.exudes power & technology
tbh its just missing the halo lights ..swap those out onto the new ones and its good.
Personally I love the design of this BM
This car looks cool. The only thing i dont like is the headlights they just dont look like bmw lights
Someone at BMW changed the imaging setting to low poly count.
I think it kinda looks like a lego speed champions model
you know how lego cars become kinda boxier and more angled because they're mostly 90 degree pieces?
New one looks better 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Even though I liked how the older cars looked, I like BMW is trying bold new stuff. Although I hope other manufacturers don’t follow this philosophy.
Nope. BMW are actually panicking. Someone needs to fire their current CEO or at least have a company reformation
I can’t agree. I feel the new model looks masculine, aggressive and modern. The old model looks instantly old in comparison which is when you know it’s a great update. I’m loving what BMW are doing at the moment and having seperate identities for their models is smart business IMO.
Funny enough, that's how i feel too, when you do a side by side comparison, the old M2 is a fossil IMO.
Go get yourself a Hyundai !
@@elstudiocustomtattoos8188 When BMW hire you as a designer, I will.
I like how Lego were the consultancy firm involved with the M2
i wonder if darker colors will help mute some of these design issues.
Someone should photoshop/edit a e36 m3 wing onto this car. I think it would fit since it has more boxier lines in the front back and rear fenders.
People dont see that its supposed to look like a futuristic version of the boxy bmws from the 80s or early 90s. I like this design more than the old generation.
this has the exact same engine and transmission as the m4. so what bmw said about the m4 and how the grill was made like that for cooling is bs. because this looks a bit better and achieves the same amount of cooling
It's like the design engineers only had a straight ruler to work with.
Anyone here remember the Gran Turismo Vision GT CSL concept from a few years ago? It was rumored that we'll get a production model in 2021, and now we got this? lmao.
Let's say the obvious - the car is UGLY! The new M2 actually looks like an old model, where the old M2 looks generations ahead. It's like time goes backwards... :) With the latest BMW design 'miracles' I feel like Mercedes and Audi planted double agents in BMW design team, so that they can destroy their biggest competitor from the inside...
the boxy and drawn out fenders are quite cool indeed. the rest is pretty katastrophic imo. front looks drawn out in 30 minutes, almost like they just skipped the final rendering to finish the design all up. not a fan
You know the old saying..."Give a room full of monkeys a typewriter and eventually one of them will write Shakespeare."
2 series has been an ugly duckling in all its incarnations including the last one and the current one. If you want elegance you need to go to 4 series or 6 series or higher.
4:54 That's an Alfa Romeo Tonale! 😂
It's like it's got Amazon boxes glued to the sides.
I couldn't understand why the car didn't look right to me, but you explained it perfectly. Disjointed, lacks passion, very caricature like.. just has "features" rather than a cohesive design. Lastly, BMW is all over the place... so weird to see it.
