When I first saw the release images for the M2 I loved the body lines. Then after a while I started to dislike it, but then seeing one in person for the first time I absolutely loved it again!
Miles - The only thing I find confounding about this review is that you do not have a G87 rear end- sized subscriber list. I appreciate your shorts, but they always leave me wanting more (the point of them, I suppose). Your perspective is so thoughtful, balanced, and measured (something hunted to extinction online), that your long form reviews are (in my opinion) unlike any others out there. I’ve watched my bandwidth’s share of M2 videos, so none of the specifics were news to me, but listening to the WAY you make your points gave me a new perspective on the car. So, thank you.
I love my 2020 M2CS Black Sapphire DCT. It’s definitely a forever car for me. I can’t imagine a more fun car without jumping to a whole different price class (992 GT3). I’m realistic, that will never happen. Oh the glorious music I could make one of them play. Radio not needed.
M2 CS is my favorite bimmer of all time, and the color you have is spectacular! You lucky bastard😂 Just looking at prices of these used, and they're holding value extremely well! Hold on to it, because it's going to be a serious collectable!✌
Yep, the photos don't do justice. I went to the dealership to check it out and the M2 actually looks pretty good. That said, I think the best looking Gxx 2 series is still the M240i. That's the sweet spot for this generation so far.
Thanks for the great info on the new m2. I am very interested in getting the m2, but I have been worried about all that power and being rwd only. I’m no pro or race car driver and will not pretend to be one lol. The highest hp rwd car I’ve owned is 228 hp. I’ve owned an m340i but that was xDrive. You saying it grips pretty well and has good traction steers me more toward actually buying this car. Thanks miles!
Ya man this thing is crazy good. So I'm also only used to AWD cars (currently have a GTR) and when I test drove my friends tuned 700whp+ G80 I was blown away from it's power deliver and ability to keep traction!! I was so impressed that I just ordered me a M2 this week!
I truly love my new 2023 M2C. I traded in the 2020 version. The new version has many improvements. And, while the styling is somewhat different, it is lovely. I’m a very happy camper.
I don't get it. My G87 is fitted with the M6 and it's one of the finest gearboxes I've ever tried. Nice short throws, precise gates, perfectly weighted. Not rubbery at all. Is it as good as the Miata? No, but a close second for sure.
The new M2 is utterly brilliant in every sense! Perfection! Even the rear! Stop hating on it! A true benchmark BMW M Car. Just imagine what is to come when the CS is released! M Division swansong! Incredible!
I feel like most people are convincing themselves to like the new M cars because of their love for BMW🤷🏾♂️ When the previous generations came out no one said things like “It’s growing on me”, “after seeing it a few times… I’m starting to like it” 😂 . People knew immediately that they loved it. it’s ok to admit something is UGLY!
Really liking the looks of this car. Never owned a BMW so I don’t have any prior expectations. Seriously considering trading I my GT350 for an M2. Lots of potential with tuning and that interior is gorgeous. But the GT350 just a special car! Tough decision ahead
I’d take the leap. The GT350, no doubt a cool car. But the new M2 is a very different beast. Go to the M school in SC and see for yourself. This a really cool car and I want one too ..
I have owned a 21 F87 M2 Comp that I tracked often. All recent gens of BMW have numb steering.. the F87 M2's steering has hardly more feel than the new G87 M2. The G87 M2 may not feel "raw" but the G87 hands down is a more capable and focused track car than the F87 M2.. entering and exiting corners is unmatched. I was so impressed with the new G87 I traded my old F87 for it.

I'm sure some influencers are getting paid but BMW hasn't paid me a dime to speak positively about the M2. Brilliant.org did sponsor this content though :)
@@CarswithMiles From all real people I've spoken with the new M2 is not engaging at all. It sure is fast and so are all other G8x M cars. But so are Teslas. The reason they didn't like the M2 or M3 aside from looks wise is the driving engagement is very disconnected vs prior gen cars. Steering feel, throttle, brake feel, and handling all seems electronically dialed. At some point, there's no point driving these when it is 50% like EVs but still has an engine. I know it is a very capable car, but it is just so hideous looking, every angle is off. The entire car sits in this uncanny valley in between a finished product and the designer just calling it quits mid production. It is by far the worst looking modern BMW to date and that is saying a lot.
It's one of the most ugly cars in recent times. I'm not saying it doesn't drive well etc, but God they dropped the ball on the design. Pass me a bucket

It will simply make a grown man cry from joy and happiness. Best purchase ever made.
thats it! the people are comparing the M2 to cars without a useful trunk and backseats you can flip. these cars they compare like porsche cayman gt4, amg gt or idk, are pure sportscars. they're not made for daily use, not for going onto long holiday trips with it... just for track, race and sundays. and with that conecpt they're of course lighter and faster. but when i buy a bmw, i'm still looking for the nicest daily car i can buy. and not for the fastest car they ever had on the track. and this is why i love bmw^^ i want a coupe that can drift and be sporty, but also a car that can be a good all day ride. same with women xD i don't need the 24/7 housewife and i also don't want to have the golddigger whos best in pole and lapdance for longtime living together xD just a hot and intelligent women who loves me (and i got that one
I agree…I recently purchased a 2024 manual M2. It is my 4th M car and the best handling and best quality interior of those 4. I must be strange too because I love the way it looks totally different than any other car. They took the M2 into its own category. They definitely are not copying anyone else. I know the days of these cars are limited so I hope all you haters find something you like. If you do not like the M2 that is great. Buy what you love. @@michaelpinnow5015 very true that car enthusiasts hate at every new car that comes out. i guess its like a "cool thing" to do to hate on them. even the legendary e9x m3 got hate for being too heavy and being ugly when now, its considered as one of the best m3s or even cars. on another note, what m cars did you own before?
Modern e30 , back to the roots, people gotta stop hating, having an e30 myself i like the new m2 look, stopped liking many bmw cars after the e36 , looked like regular street traffic , but this , this is brilliant😂
I own an E30 myself too. The new M2 is boxier and angular like the good old E30, and it might be a decent looking car but it's such a downgrade from the F87. On one end, I do believe the F87 is the best modern BMW design, but the G87 is such, such a huge downgrade looks-wise.
@@JohnnyFappleseed. I feel like the F87 looks dated by comparison to the G87, and I say that as someone who didn't originally care for the G87. But looking back at the F87, I'm not as crazy about it now. I like the angularity of the G87. I prefer it. I think it matches the proportions of the car more. Nice curves work better when a vehicle is longer, and the F87 comes across as a curvaceous chode in retrospect to me.
I've had my sapphire black metallic M2 for one month now. Yes, you guys were all wrong! This car is absolutely amazing. I can't tell you how many complete strangers have approached me and complimented me on the car.
Same. I have 3200 miles on mine. Zandvoort blue 6MT. I can't wait to get in this car every day. I absolutely love it. The amount of positive attention it gets is insane. I have some funny stories.
same feelings over here. i’ve had the brooklyn grey, 6MT, HEA since mid april and absolutely love this car! and Miles is right that it feels closer to 550hp than 450… last car was a 2018 M2 in long beach blue.. lemme tell ya, the new M2 is just as beautiful -people compliment the 2023 almost every single day
congrats. my black saph 6 speed comes in less than a month. put a deposit on mine randomly after seeing one in the the flesh... the old one looks better in pics but just ok in person but the g87 looks so much better in person. not to mention how much better im thinking it will drive compared to the old one which wasn't very good. if its anything close to the difference between my f80 which was admittedly pretty bad and my g80, which i loved in terms of driving dynamics, then I'll be very happy.
I agree that the 8sp auto is the best transmission for this vehicle. Lighting fast shifts. I happen to love the exterior. Muscular and bold. Ordered mine in Toronto red with carbon roof. Oh and auto.
Since the shift in manufacturing to Mexico, you guys in the USA are really lucky you've got your M2s. Here in Europe, many, many of us have been waiting for months. Some were built in April, others in May, others in June. Mine was built on the 12th of May. They've all been left in the Sun in Mexico awaiting transport to Europe. I assume they're simply waiting for enough cars to be ordered and built before fully loading a ship to send over. Either way, it's a pathetic effort from BMW M. Pay a premium price for a premium car and it sits in the Sun in another continent for months upon months with endless delivery delays.
I got lucky and purchased a car manufactured in November and purchased in December. Very fresh from factory so it was not sitting outside in the elements very long anyway.
Thank you for your video. We have a saying in Germany: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - I loved the looks from the first moment, the boxy design, the side profile, the fat hips :) Yes, you are right, the back could be better but - I like the car and I will order one with a manual transmission in the beginning of 2024
I really like the M2. Kinda like the styling. Over time I think it will grow on people a bit more just like all the other new BMW’s coming out. (Still think the ix is pretty hideous though.) (I’ve been driven in the previous gen M2 competition and that thing is fast fast)
@@CarswithMiles When you mentioned how the M2's manual isn't worth going for, I was thinking of the channel Auto Fanatic, where the owner has a G80 M3 manual and has fitted an aftermarket short-shift kit to his car. From what he says, it improves the feel and engagement, but this opens up the argument that BMW should have just made it great from factory rather than customers spending extra cash on mods to "fix" its shortcomings.
I have a M3CX and if this came out beforehand I would have gotten the M2. It’s just an unbeatable bargain compared to the M3 and M4. Same engine, trans and interior for 15k cheaper.
Please don't think electric is where everything is going. There is almost no infrastructure outside of major cities. Even though BMW sold more electric cars over the past couple of years, sales are tanking. All manufacturers are ditching electric cars for hybrids, which will be as close as we can get for the time being. They can keep putting faster charging, and bigger heavier batteries in these electric cars, and they still will not get the distance a full tank of gas can get. That's the trick. Restrict gas powered cars with Climate restrictions, and emission standards, with limited mileage, don't provide the infrastructure, so you will drive less. I own a M340i with a mild hybrid, getting almost 40mpg on the freeway, and still has a 382hp V6. That is the realistic future, not all electric.
I genuinely don’t understand why people hate the way it looks so much. The last gen m2 looked incredible but it also looked exactly like every other bmw. I appreciate that this looks different and interesting
I prefer a manual, I don't care about the fastest acceleration, I don't race anyone but just purely the fun of driving which an automatic just doesn't deliver. Plus I'm an old fart that has always driven a manual.
Top review, having the manual version I can promise what you describe is basically breaking down to the difference of having 15yrs of manual driving exprience on german streets. The control you have with manual box is just addicting af. I'm actually don't know, if the overall feeling isnt too digital tbh.
Agreed, have 45 years experience with manuals, though mainly in the US but have driven throughout Europe, including Germany, many times....yes the control is unmatched, twisty steep roads the best! Going to order an M2 with manual, I wouldn't have it any other way! I have one of the last 4 series with manual, a 2015 435, now they are only automatic, which was a sad day when I heard BMW dropped the manual option for 3 and 4 series......now its onto an M, well I can't complain, it is a more fun car!
I’m a guy who first saw the G80 M3 Comp and thought how hideous it was and how I’d never buy one, yet now I have one on a ship from Germany coming my way. Between getting used to the looks and seeing the tremendous overall performance (especially with Xdrive like I ordered) and much improved interior it won me over and will be my first M car. I’m sure the new M2 will be similar for a lot of people. The S58 is just a tremendous engine to have, and the interior looks leagues better than the last M2. My main gripe is it weights the same as a RWD M4, but it has the shorter wheelbase that changes the experience when driving it even if it doesn’t lose any weight. I’m old enough now where I chose the M3 since it is easier for 4 adults to get in and out of compared to an M4, so the M2 isn’t for me at this point in my life. If I was 25 instead of 45 though the M2 might have been my choice.
Ordered a black one with cognac interior and yes...got the manual. Nothing beats a manual no matter how "rubbery" it feels. Plus, the less manuals we buy, the sooner they're gone altogether...even the good ones. Love the car!
Don't sweat the carbon package. It barely lowered the weight of the car for $10k. I just got the manual. Agree that it feels "video gamey" compared to the E46M3 that I traded in....if you've never driven one, you owe it to yourself to drive one and rip some turns. You'll see what I mean...
I dont hate it. But i dont love it. I usually think "maybe i just dont like it because its different". But if Hyundai can rock the car world with their new designs, its not just blind hate. At least its not hog nosed😂
Dang bro, I’ve had two BMW clown shoes…looks are nice, not essential. It’s all about the ride., once you’re inside, how does it make you feel? This is your dad talking, apply that wherever you want.
I don't get why everyone call this car ugly. It's not the most beautiful BMW I've ever seen, but I'm a big fan of the more muscle vibe. Definitely makes it stand out compared to other BMWs
I don't get the problem people have when the rear end. Looks cool to me. The long hood doesn't quite work for me.. it's the ratio between the hood. The cabin and the ass end. The original M2 had all perfect ratios in that regard.
Unpopular opinion: I think this car looks awesome.

Congrats on the car!
@@js002003 I can't stay away from mine - I drive it whenever I have some free time. You will love it. What seats did you get? I got the cognac ones.
I agree that the 8sp auto is the best transmission for this vehicle. Lighting fast shifts. I happen to love the exterior. Muscular and bold. Ordered mine in Toronto red with carbon roof. Oh and auto.
You'll enjoy it!
I’ve watched many reviews of the M2 and yours was hands down the most genuine to watch.
Thank you 🙏🏾
I love the previous generations body style, but i gotta admit, this interior is beautiful and modern especially for the price.
The interior is a massive W
Solid review Miless BMW M2 squared lmaooo
btw I still can't get over the rear end
me neither lmao, thanks for watchin broski 🤝
Do you think the rear end looks good without it having to grow on you lol!?
I have been looking for a thoughtful review that truly describes the m2 on RUclips. Bro you blew this outta the park. Spot on review.
🙏🏾
Wow first American reviewer I’ve heard say go for the auto ❤
I agree these cars are too powerful for a manual
Thank you for your video. We have a saying in Germany: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - I loved the looks from the first moment, the boxy design, the side profile, the fat hips :) Yes, you are right, the back could be better but - I like the car and I will order one with a manual transmission in the beginning of 2024
I really like the M2. Kinda like the styling. Over time I think it will grow on people a bit more just like all the other new BMW’s coming out. (Still think the ix is pretty hideous though.) (I’ve been driven in the previous gen M2 competition and that thing is fast fast)
Agreed!
The manual in my G87 M2 is better than the manual in my E92 M3. Definitely an improvement.
You have grown to be one of my favourites in the car review game
Keep it up
Greetings from Germany

The car looks amazing 👏
You're right about the BMW manuals, I too personally feel bmw does a better job with auto trans!
Yup!
i dont understand why everybody thinks this car is ugly its so fuckin nice
I love the look of the new m2, it to me looks like a modernised e36.
That is the realistic future, not all electric.
and than will be M2 Comp, M2 CS, M2 Special Edition, M2 Just For You, M2 Limited Edition, M2 Track Edition, M2 Last Edition..... and and and
I genuinely don’t understand why people hate the way it looks so much.
Don't call ugly you may hurt it's feelings, remember it's what inside 🙄
We can call it bmw m2-2
" Super notchy and feel spongy " oxymoron of the day.
I might be the only weirdo that likes the rear end but dislikes the front end haha
Still seeing people though 45+ buying the M2 here in Europe :-)
Am i the only one who doesn’t think it looks worse than the original M2
I saw one yesterday, looks great.
this car is beautiful
BMW M2: Electric boogaloo
I don’t see the ugly.
Sorry gotta go manual
WRONG!. It looks like an over inflated toy car. Maunufacturer's spend millions on aesthetics and, this is the best they can come up with?
That’s how I feel about the Porsche 718 and Boxster … M2 for me. It’s growing up and I like it .. but I understand your position.
Good review. I test drove one in April then ordered. Looking at about a year wait. Have to agree it is s great driving car. Thanks.
Auto or manual?

"It just grips and rips"
-words said by a wise man.
Stole that from @jesse_iwuji
Great video. Any reason why 720p from about halfway through the video.
"One BBL at a time"😂😂😂
Precisely
I don't get the problem people have when the rear end. Looks cool to me. The long hood doesn't quite work for me.. it's the ratio between the hood. The cabin and the ass end. The original M2 had all perfect ratios in that regard.
I would have to agree, I just took delivery of mine and coming out of a E60 with Twin superchargers pushing over 600 hp I like this M2 better.
Definitely on my list for new car I want. I wanted an 1 M back in 2011 when I got a 135i and now that I'm older, this would be perfect.
