Thorough and comprehensive review, Thomas, and you have rapidly become one of my top two car reviewers. I love my 2015 MB S-550 w/75K mi ($116K MSRP) and am actively researching my next vehicle, even with all the supply chain issues. Drove a well-equipped ($94K) BMW iX at my local area dealer yesterday, and was very impressed with the ride comfort, driving dynamics, noise level, and size/visibility. Had the air suspension and rear steering. ALERT: As we were finishing our lengthy drive and examination of the iX features, my wife said everything was great but the seat was painful to sit in because the plastic insert in the top constantly rubbed on her head. We tried to adjust the seat to eliminate this but even with the salesman's help could not. She is 5'6", a pretty average height for a woman, and fits just fine in my S-550 and her Lexus ES-350. This is a deal breaker for us, and I cannot believe the engineers at BMW are not aware of this seat comfort problem with drivers in a certain size range! Form over function indeed, like the capacitive controls you and I both dislike! Please look into this issue, as we like the vehicle a lot otherwise.
Fantastic review as usual, Thomas!!👍🙂.. I especially liked the bit with the hair dryer removing the scratch!!😮... What a HOLY FREAKING SHOW!!!😉👍🙂... Looking forward to the next one!!👍🙂
Thnaks for consumption and trunk measurements. Two of the important aspects, that are covered by few. Also would appreciate more emphasis on the self driving/assistance system testing, line centering in variety of aspects, including city traffic jams, auto start in assistance mode after full stop in traffic jam etc.
Interesting review. Thomas, the wool is probably included to improve the Martindale count and improve temperature control of the seat surface. I've ordered my V60 with the wool option interior. I'm looking forward to see how it works in Summer and Winter.
That 360 camera is so cool. The fact you can look at the car from a app and it’s surroundings is amazing. Even Tesla is not doing that. Amazing review though Thomas.
I still don't understand why a Tesla has cameras already installed on all sides of the car, but won't stitch the images together to give you 360 degree view. Even a cheap EV like a Nissan Leaf offers a 360 camera.
@@tren133 As the main function for side cameras on Tesla is for autopilot my guess is that the cameras has a much more narrow FOV, which doesn't cover the whole side. Also the front camera sits high on the windshield so the live feed from that doesn't help much when parking.
A solid review again. I bought the X5 45e plug in hybrid thanks to Thomas's great review. I considered waiting for the iX and going full electric, but I am still happy with my choice after seeing this review. Both SUV's have similar features and functions, along with BMW comfort and quiet. In summer above 10 degrees C, I get 50-55 km of range and that is a pretty good commute, but it drops to 30-35km in winter (-20 or -35 degrees). However, my 900km camping trips have been totally without range anxiety. I would have had to leave the iX at home on a trip like that as the charging infrastructure isn't here yet in most parts of Saskatchewan in Canada.. The iX is great though as it would offer an unlimited commute distance, even in winter and it has a ton of power, which the X5 45e lacks in electric-only mode (it is slow but drivable). The interior of the iX is nice too, consistent with BMW, but the X5 45e is still a bit richer inside.
I’m about to drive 1/2 way across the country for one. I hope you see this in time! Any regrets or concerns yet? I’ve been reading that it doesn’t handle as well due to the hefty. Kind stranger , please advise!
It handles better than my last diesel X5. No concerns - I love it. Fuel pump just failed though, which was just bad luck. Still favorite vehicle of all time - and I had a 911 4S too 😀
I have the 7 series hybrid and while I like the car, the hybrid concept sucks. The most I can get after charging is a whopping 15 miles😂 Not even worth charging
I really enjoyed your review style. The iX is just awesome in so many aspects, definitely see myself owning one in the near future. The scenic drive is just amazing, thank you for taking us along

FINALLY! The one question that nobody answers. How many miles/km can you drive at full speed in an EV? In this case is 200km at 200km/h. Excellent job Thomas!
@@xeneize288 don't be a pussy, if the highway has 300km, like the long autos in the US, desert etc, you will drive very fast, so.. you get the picture. Or not, your not that type of driver. So don't reply to me, you don't understand petrol heads, i don't want to understand you 😁
Thank you ... that was an excellent review. You did so many things right. But, 1 detail was heads-and-tails above all other BMW iX50 reviews. You actually measured the W x H x D of the rear trunk. I've been looking for someone that measured the width (W) to verify I'll be able to fit golf clubs sideways (L-to-R) in the back. I needed a minimum of 40"-42" to properly fit the clubs. You verified this for me. Dealers in the USA could not answer this question ... Super great information detail.
I think these new electric car reviews need also information about max passenger/cargo capacity. Example model 3 long range can carry only 295kg (driver 75kg) excluded. If this bmw as a big SUV can carry only half of the cargo from normal diesel/petrol, is a relevant information.
Another great car journalism by Autogeful!! and Thomas.. great job mate.. no old school motoring journalism here.. always in line with motoring evolution!!
I happened to watch this guy's clips many times back 4 years ago while I was choosing to buy a car (Bimmer/Merc/Volvo). This year I watched some youtube clip I think about marine fish/reef tank or something and I came across German-accent English. I told myself I swear to god I have listened to this German-accent English before, from some guys but couldn't recall who (but kinda remember this face and remember it was from RUclips). Ahhh finally I remember .. its' from Autogefühl! Nice accent!
I’ve watched other 3 videos reviewing the new BMW iX and this is by far the most complete an technical one. Mat Watson from Carwow might be more entertaining but here we have The German Approach. Admirable!
My Tesla Model X does exactly the same thing with lane changing in Autopilot. If you leave it too late it starts to brake and carries on slowing down while moving into the next lane. You eiehter have to 1) Change lanes earlier or 2) Press the accelerator while changing lanes. I agree it's a bit of a pain in the arse if you don't get it right.
Nice. In my region only the xDrive40 is available for pre-order, not the 50. 😢 I really appreciate how you always sit in the back to show the true space; that helps a lot, thank you.
Thomas, tell me pls from time perspective, how could you compere iX 50 to EQE SUV 500? Which one offers better ride quality and noise isolation on german autobahn with high speeds?
Thomas.... your reviews are always thorough but this one was more so. Excellent, really excellent. A reason for 500k+ followers. I also have to agree with you wholeheartedly on dash and button tech 💯. Thank you.
Excellent review but perhaps a bit too soft on practicality or lack of. What is the point of a massive suv if it has a tiny trunk of 500 litres, same as 3 touring and almost half of model X. I tested the 40 and loved the driving experience but I need space for my 2 kids and dog! Hopefully i5 will be more practical
Great review Thomas. I’m not understanding why you dislike the addition of wool into the seat fabric. Sheep would not be killed in order to harvest the wool. The sheep would have the top layer of their wool removed during the sheering process, which the sheep is generally grateful for, due to a reduction in weight they have to carry around and also, much more comfortable in the summer. A win win situation I think.
Thanks 🙏 first of all, wool seats scratch on pale skin and get hot. Experienced that in Volvo. Ethically, if you sheer your sheep like a dog in a dog salon, fine no problem. But it is done on industrial shape with hurting them and as soon as their wool is bad they get slaughtered.
@@autogefuehl Thanks for the reply Thomas. I guess I am used to my brother’s sheep farm, where the sheep are milked daily and periodically he sheers the wool for summer comfort. His sheep herd are not for slaughter thankfully.
Great review as ever, Thomas. Always so thoroughly and crisply presented with a little bit of humour .. I really didn’t like the look of this car ‘til I saw one in my local BMW dealership in white with black gloss accents and I started to like it!
Hi Thomas, wonderful review again... i enjoy your reviews, specially the door testing, superb! Can you test the doors 2 times please? maybe once in the beginning and once in the end? :-) Ok serious, i ordered a iX, and i am at the max of my budget. But would you advise to go for the air suspention? the seller says it does not offers added value. but he admits he was unable to try it. So, I personally thought the speed bumps on roads were difficult for the iX40 without air suspention. Is this a lot better in the iX50? Another thing nobody can answer me is the turning circle with normal 2 wheels steer or 4 wheels, what is the difference in turning circle? thank you for a reply. Keep up the wonderful reviews!!
Hi Thomas, thank you for this cool as always review. I highly appreciate your independent view. You usually refer to the sound systems in your car reviews. Would it be possible for you to make an in-depths review of particular sound systems? It would be great to get your comparison of the sound systems available in Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Best regards!
Thank you. Overall quite nice tech wise apart from OS 8. Design is bit hit and miss as we know - I like more classic BMWs. Perhaps I'm bit weird, but I really don't see point on ambient lighting in any car. It simply just makes the car worse (blinds you) when you drive it on dark roads. Ofcourse one can turn those off, but then you are carrying just extra weight which also costed some production resources. I hope there is option to NOT have these in your unique car spec as well; the car is supposed to be environmentally friendly anyway...
This car grows on me. I was not at all convinced by the exterior design at first but now I like it! I have a question though... The consumption at max speed is 50kW/hour. So if you start at 100% and drive it 2 hours at max speed, would you have driven 400 kms?
The new design language will go one way or another, either the way of the Chris Bangle era where everyone hated it in the past but they have now aged extremely well; or that being said it could instead age horrendously and be universally hated forever. I guess only time will tell.
Also as an animal defender, I love how you call out each and every instance of animal usage and how it's unnecessary. I thank you and the animals thank you.
"The animals thank you"? Really? These animals are bred for the purpose for which they are used. No meat or leather = no cows. Humane treatment is one thing. But why would the animals thank you for otherwise not existing?
Some great features but why did they put the gear shifter on the center console?!? One of my favorite things in our i3 and older model s is the shifter being to the right of the steering wheel. Opens up more space for cup holders, chargers, and storage in the center console.
Great Review Thomas 👍😎 but why can't BMW and others not just use the Google MCU, it is the most intuitive system around. Developing your own OS and trying to be your own Technologist's or trying to beat Tesla at Technology is not working just look at the mess VW has made.

If this bmw as a big SUV can carry only half of the cargo from normal diesel/petrol, is a relevant information.
Another great car journalism by Autogeful!! and Thomas.. great job mate.. no old school motoring journalism here.. always in line with motoring evolution!!
Hello from Belarus. Awesome videos.
I thank you for this video. I enjoyed it, I learned a lot about the BMW iX and about the psychology behind road rage 😆 it was fun to watch.
👌
Another Great review. You're the best impo. Keep up the great work.
🙏🙏🙏
Alhamdulillah.. thanks God. That's my car ❤😊
I’ve watched other 3 videos reviewing the new BMW iX and this is by far the most complete an technical one. Mat Watson from Carwow might be more entertaining but here we have The German Approach. Admirable!
Highly appreciated!! Please recommend 🤗
Also tune in to this one: ruclips.net/video/tDvDQtVtQIQ/видео.html
I am already loving it! When will it be available?
Extremely well done review!!! Allready looking forward to your i4 review!!! (hope you get one soon (i ordered one so very curious))
Very nice review. What I loved is the way you reacted on the right vehicle taking over ... you set the right example Love it.
cheers m8 !
32:31 Look at that ambient lighting! 😁
This is my favourite review so far.
Best car review as always! Have you try the xdrive 40 with standard suspension? I am wondering how is the riding comfort compared to the xdrive 50.
Interesting. Looking forward to test drive. Good job 👍 thanks for video :)
Servus! I think the design is interesting. The front is not the best looking but it’s at least different from the masses. Love the rear end.
Nice. In my region only the xDrive40 is available for pre-order, not the 50. 😢 I really appreciate how you always sit in the back to show the true space; that helps a lot, thank you.
Great review as always, I love the way you are so thorough without making it boring
🙏🙏
Thomas's reaction to seeing the photo of his cat always makes me smile 😄
Thank you bro! Please tell me when it starts selling??
Outstanding review. Very well done!
thanks! Please recommend our channel !
I really like the wide display dash. it looks so clean, minimalistic. like an ultrawide desktop screen.
jeeez this front! what were they thinking ?
Thomas, tell me pls from time perspective, how could you compere iX 50 to EQE SUV 500? Which one offers better ride quality and noise isolation on german autobahn with high speeds?
Thomas.... your reviews are always thorough but this one was more so. Excellent, really excellent. A reason for 500k+ followers.
I also have to agree with you wholeheartedly on dash and button tech 💯.
Thank you.
Thanks my friend!
Very tempting ambient lights reflection. I liked it so much.
Thank you for the as always detailed and entertaining review! Bonus points for the cat wallpaper on the iPhone. Your cat, Thomas? I love cats.
😎✌️
Yes 2 🐱 🐱
What color is on the ix in the start of your move? Gray? - Thanks for great presentation
Amazing really in-depth review of an amazing car...One question please...from the drivers seat are the front corners of the car visible..?.
Great review, Thomas and team, Congratulations! But unfortunelly I think BMW should simply fire the whole design team and start it over again.
Great review as ever, Thomas. Always so thoroughly and crisply presented with a little bit of humour ..
I really didn’t like the look of this car ‘til I saw one in my local BMW dealership in white with black gloss accents and I started to like it!
Thanks Andrew!
For sure this is a big ass SUV! Great long form review on this very interesting new BMW
Great review again! I wonder what's your comments to compare autopilot and infotainment system of BMW OS8 to Tesla?
Hi
What’s your opinion of the driving position? Is it quite upright (similar to an X5), or closer to that of a sedan?
Thank you
Vay vay vaaay.Perfect😊Thank you🙂👏👏👏
Tnx for great review, as always! Hope i4 will be next 😀
Soon!!
Is there room for a future upgrade of battery for more distance ?
Do one need to use the start/stop button or do the car start as an ID. or Tesla with a step on the pedal?
This car grows on me. I was not at all convinced by the exterior design at first but now I like it! I have a question though... The consumption at max speed is 50kW/hour. So if you start at 100% and drive it 2 hours at max speed, would you have driven 400 kms?
no, its 50 kWh/100km, so you can only drive 1 hour at 200 Km/h
The new design language will go one way or another, either the way of the Chris Bangle era where everyone hated it in the past but they have now aged extremely well; or that being said it could instead age horrendously and be universally hated forever. I guess only time will tell.
All cars should be made with a self healing body. Especially my wife's car 😆
Also as an animal defender, I love how you call out each and every instance of animal usage and how it's unnecessary. I thank you and the animals thank you.
LOL
I hope you don't consume any animal products at all if you claim to be an animal defender.
"The animals thank you"? Really? These animals are bred for the purpose for which they are used. No meat or leather = no cows. Humane treatment is one thing. But why would the animals thank you for otherwise not existing?
Highly appreciated. Thanks for caring about the animals!
@Malinkadink That's "whataboutism".
That is one monstrously Fugly thing. Excellent review as always.
Very detailed video, love the quality work!
Some great features but why did they put the gear shifter on the center console?!? One of my favorite things in our i3 and older model s is the shifter being to the right of the steering wheel. Opens up more space for cup holders, chargers, and storage in the center console.
Can’t wait for you to test the i4. Also, the iX tail lights reminds me a bit of the Z8 tail lights.
i4 review coming soon as well !
Best test seen so far. Looking forward to delivery of mine towards end of year...
Great Review Thomas 👍😎 but why can't BMW and others not just use the Google MCU, it is the most intuitive system around. Developing your own OS and trying to be your own Technologist's or trying to beat Tesla at Technology is not working just look at the mess VW has made.
That’s what I say!
