Criticism and sarcasm? More likely coaching and instruction. Having just joined the ranks of indoor flyers, I almost mangled my plane transferring the rubber from the stooge to the airplane. Seeing Caleb handle the task with such aplomb gives me hope. I'm perfectly willing to learn from a child!
Having seen him grow over the years, and develop his flying and building skills under the mentorship of you and Hope, this is a wonderful moment, but I am sure there will be more to come!
Go Caleb! Josh, launching with the tip of the propeller a fraction of an inch above the floor will get more time. It effectively increases the ceiling height. Consider the low rate of climb in relation to the distance from the floor to his head height, it will add several seconds on the way up. Descent time will be the same because ceiling height above floor is not changed. I have seen this practice add 10 seconds to a Pennyplane flight. It will likely add more in F1D.
So with variable pitch, launching close to the floor is less of an advantage, and it tends to be a liability because the air is often choppy enough next to the floor to stall these out (not as much of an issue with LPP).
"Hey! There's this guy on the Internet who's topped the indoor rubber powered duration record! So what? Get this; his assistant is JOSH FINN!!".. Well done Caleb! Oh, and Dad, and Mum, and Paul, who should be plotting his comeback.. Impressive. 🎄✨🌟👍
Hi i really love your content and your passion for building planes, i am going to participate in this years tsa flight endurance competition and will be purchasing from your website, i would like to know what the flight times of the winning flights get in nationals, since I cant seem find the times online.
I've got a student who is using a carbon fiber airframe to get over 3 minutes. That's an extreme case, in good conditions. Most state contests will be won by a pair of roughly 2 minute flights.
Very nice effort but a far cry from my first indoor meet in Detroid around 1952 or 3. It was sponsord by the Plymouth Aero ?eague clubs and the gyme floor was a mass of kids around my age and of all range of abilities but each very enthusiastic. I would think over a hundred were out and having a great time. My little JASCO ROG stood no chance but a few were of Caleb's ability. Too bad the majority have gone on to other pursuits.
Paul, that's a dang cool memory right there. Microfilm made things much harder. We're working on growing back the AMA/FAI side of indoor freeflight. It's slow going but progress is being made. The biggest indoor contest of this year had over a dozen juniors. We anticipate similar participation if not more next year as I'm bringing at least 3 juniors to Team Selection, and there are a bunch of additional major meets planned.
Hi Mr. Finn, I’ve been watching a lot of your tsa flight videos lately and I am interested in the competition. I signed up for the middle school flight endurance competition but I’m not sure which design to use or whether I should try creating my own design. What would you recommend? And do you have any tips for a first timer like me? Thanks!!
Look up the Nat glider on my website and use it to learn how to fly gliders, then you'll be able to make decisions from there such as building my TSA Floater design or adapting some other design to work. Designing your own isn't likely to work because gliders are quite difficult to learn to fly well even when you're starting from a proven design. Also the best performance gains will come from spending countless hours flying gliders and then building more and flying those for more endless hours. If you find that you really enjoy gliders, let me know and I'll see if we can locate a mentor in your area.
These aren't something you order. They are very time consuming to build. If you want to learn, start with a P-18 kit or a pennyplane kit, and work your way up in difficulty as you learn more and more to build from scratch.
That is amazing! Congratulations, Caleb! Your hard work paid off.
One happy kid for sure!

Right on…may be our only salvation!
Having seen him grow over the years, and develop his flying and building skills under the mentorship of you and Hope, this is a wonderful moment, but I am sure there will be more to come!
It scares me how fast he's growing up though!
Excellent Caleb…it’s in your DNA, that’s where the credit lies! Got to explore 👍👍👍
Go Caleb!

Awesome 👏
Almost Erie how it flys so relaxed and slow
Nice to see other families teaching their children.
Absolutely! Gotta share it with the next generation!
So happy to see you with your kids enjoying the hobby. This is the top of the free flight skills.
That is beautiful.
It is great to see your youngsters doing so well. Congratulations to you and Hope!
At least one of his F1Ds has wood from you. 😉
Impressive! It has to be said that he is superbly trained by his mentor and father 😂❤
He definitely has had much training, but he also really loves learning to build and fly these airplanes.
@joshuawfinn In any case, he's going to be a great champion.
@tux603 absolutely. He's on Team USA for S4A (rocket glider) and is hoping to be on the 2026 F1P team as well.
❤
🎉🎉🎉
Respect my friend, what U have learn u,r son’s…I follin it many years now. Verry sweet,a HAPPY family!! Kind of greets Henkie from the Netherlands
Glad you enjoyed it. Have a Merry Christmas! :)
very cool!
Still surprising that I met you in - person, without knowing that you had a big following on YT. I love Your Content!
I'm just glad you're out there enjoying airplanes. :)

Impressive. 🎄✨🌟👍
Paul is dreaming about flying some monster gas job.
Also nicely done sir.
These are so flipping cool!
Awesome!
Hi Caleb, many children wish for a father like yours, Caleb.
I think it's awesome
Very nice. Don’t have a clue how you control the roc
Какой вес модели?
This one is a little heavy at 1.7g compared to the target weight of 1.4g.
@joshuawfinn Спасибо!!!

Which one of your flights stays in the air the longest? Asking for tsa flight endurence comp. Thanks!
Only plane I have that's useful for TSA is the Tech Flier. The others are not able to be modified to suit TSA rules.
Look out, Ross Clements, Caleb is after your records! Lol! 😂
Ross commented exactly that a few years back. When I messaged him that Caleb had cracked his F1D record, he just commented it was inevitable. ;)
Who built the model? Great that your kids are interested (mine weren’t) but I’ll be really amazed if that model was built by Caleb.
He built it. I've got pics to prove it. It was a long process but he was super motivated because of the students I work with who fly F1D.
@@joshuawfinn Well that is awesome.
Of course…your dad is a great resource 😃

@@joshuawfinn hey thats so kind of you to reply but Im a physics teacher in India and these kits are not available here.

Absolutely WOW ❤❤❤😊
