Growing up in the 80's, we had real, wholesome, feel-good entertainment. It was saccharine sweet to be sure, but it was a more innocent time. Movies from Spielberg, Joe Dante, Robert Zemeckis, John Hughes, Tim Burton, etc. were all instrumental in how we viewed the world & life. This movie is just one of many that speaks loudly to the memories of those years. I miss it DEARLY & have shared all of them with my kids. They LOVE it!!!
R.I.P. Melinda Dillon (1939-2023)🕊 You were an amazing Actress and your legacy will live on in many years to come. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time❤️
Yes, this was a good movie, and that's great that you want to show this to your grandchildren. The way I was introduced to this movie was when I was at my baseball coaches house in summer 1988 for a Little League baseball party which was after the season was over and we were finished playing baseball, and then all of us teammates went upstairs in the house to watch TV and someone put on "Harry and the Hendersons" which was on TV and we watched it and when I got home late at night, it was on a different channel and I watched it again and I loved it.
It Was a fun movie. It was so well done, that we can still watch it...and kinda sorta 'believe' that Harry is what he is...and not just a guy in a costume. I'm 36 now, and watched this movie with my 10yearold niece a cpl months ago..and I Didn't feel any differently about it than when I 1st watched it as a kid. It's one of the best of the Very best from the mid 80s to the early 90s.
Harry's big 'Hello' smile captures my heart every time. He's the cutest gentle giant of them all. And at 2:30 , that look Don Ameche makes LMAO. I crack up laughing so hard.
I like that they did the same thing they did in Beauty and the Beast. Our first impression of Harry when they first see him in the house is that he looks fierce and scary at the beginning, but when you look at his eyes, he's really very sweet and gentle despite his size. There is something about his expression that one can trust.
Catzilla I agree. 1st Rick Baker did the 1976 King Kong, Then Possibly a T-Rex In The 1985 Film My Science Project. Then this. Harry the Sasquatch AKA Bigfoot from this 1987 Movie. Then later the 1998 LA Disney Film Mighty Joe Young.
The good ol' days, before CGI...when people had to Really get creative to achieve the look of "realness", back when a cheesy/cheap costume would take the audience Right Out of the story..and deem the movie "campy"..but, an artistically built costume could make the movie feel believable. The most amazing example, in my opinion, are the costumes and effects of Wizard of Oz. For it's time...wow. Amazing.
i appreciate this scene now more than ever. i have seen big foot researchers and i can only imagine how they would feel if they had a bigfoot right in front of them all the emotions that they would feel would be amazing.
I totally understand what you mean by “looks good for ‘87”, because that was a pretty long time ago. But the sad truth is, ‘87 was around the peak of practical effects in movies. Things basically plateaued at that point, as producers started pushing more for CGI advancements, especially after Jurassic Park.
Everytime I eat raspberries it reminds me of this movie. Near the beginning of the movie Big Foot got into the house and was eating raspberries from the fridge for the first time. I love that part, it always makes me smile.
"Well I didn't tell it so you could cry into your sprouts or......whatever that is, darling" LMAO I loved this move as a kid. I was born in'89, and from the age of 4 it was a film I couldn't get enough of. You have no soul if you can't appreciate this film.
The facial expressions in his face are just so good, I really don't wanna be that guy, but can you imagine the modern CGI version? No thanks. 🎶 A love ya cos ya feet too big
Back when movies were good. Always loved this movie! No over the top CGI bs. Everything done practical, just how I like it. They don't make movies like this anymore.
god i remeber being a very tiny human and seeing this scene/movie i must say a childhood classic now that im old enough to see how well harry was made in *1987*
I hope the special effects department got a OSCAR for this film. I always thought it was the amazing actor "Fred Gwynne" who played BIGFOOT it looks just like him in the face.
i used to watch this movie all the time when i was a kid. kevin peter hall did an excellent job as bigfoot. and don emeche did the voice of shadow in the first homeward bound movie.
It's like a kid finding out that Santa Claus is real. PS- The man in the Harry costume is the same actor that played the Predator in the first two films.
i just watched it for the first full time tonight and i loved it. he looked awesome for how old the movie is. if this ever gets remade, which i would love, they better get harrys face right. that was a very big part of the movie. so human looking. i should have watched this years ago.
southweststrangla420 You can be sure if they remake this it won't be anywhere near as good. These types of movies are ruined by the studios these days. Best leave it alone as the classic it is. And there's no replacing Don Ameche so they better not try.
you know they are gonna try some day. i just hope that when they do, they get his face perfect because watching this for the first time, many years after it was released, made me realize how good practical effects can be when done right. harry's face was done so well. idk i loved the movie. if you have never seen it, go watch it. harry's awesome
Well this is the first time I'm going to write *this* meme and I hope you all don't mind: "There are *no* bigfeet!" Hendersons: We are about to save this man's whole career! XD

I never go in the woods without a gun but if I ran into one of these creatures the last thing I would do is shoot at it. They're intelligent beings. I would offer its food ,try to make friends with it. I would also video him. There are way too many sightings over the years for this not to be real.

Amen to that
I never wanted kids but I still watch this movie and enjoying my freedom

What a great comment. A little insight into a time before my existence. I love the internet for this reason.

His wonderful reaction to his life's passion and purpose finally being realised when he sees harry is brilliantly put across by don ameche !
I came on to post a similar comment. It's amazing how he expressed all that right there! Amazing actor! I saw Corrina, Corrina in the theatre!!
Don Ameche's childlike wonder in this scene is perfect. He goes from a skeptic back to a believer right before our eyes.
JP X jup
One of the most touching scenes ever !!!
The look of someone who just met God, Jesus, Santa and the easter bunny at the same time. :D
Such amazing practical effects. Harry's face looks so real.
If my memory serves me right, he goes out and grabs his sleeping bag so that he can pass the night near him. Was a fun movie.

Another awesome Rick Baker prosthetics job. Harry's face is wonderfully expressive.

Rick Baker claims Harry as his best work. It’s very understandable.

Harry’s face after he said “yahooooo” , adorable.
It looks really good for 1987.
Color TV had been around for decades by then.
@LiveOkie Studio ADI is great. They did the animatronics and stuff for AVP

In the 80's every family had an odd ball living with them...lol
Alf, Harry, urkel, gibbler, E.T., and salem

But I lived in the '80s and my family didn't have an oddball living with...ohhhh.
