I think theres more to this strategy.... i dont think they have trouble coordinating. As highly visual and incredibly fast speed means they can see what to do. If you look at the picture, the marlin attacking looks remarkably like a small group of shiny sardines. I think this is an individual strategy that just happens to work in a group. The majority of the school of sardines is watchingthe marlins when suddenly a small group of "sardines" rushes towards them. Some will be too focused on the other marlins to care that part of the group is trying to join again. I think this tactic works individually but they have learned it works better together.
