    This was really helpful. I have had this game for several years but every time I tryed to play it I got confused. I took out my set and followed along and now I am ready to continue my solo game! Little did I know buying this so long ago that there would come a time when I couldn't see my friends and would grow and interest in solo board games!

      That's awesome I'm so glad you were able to play and enjoy. It's a fun campaign. I actually ended up getting the expansion before finishing the campaign so I did it over with the expansion elements. I highly recommend getting it. It adds so much to the game, and makes it a little easier to play too. Check out my other video on Northern Territories if you're curious :) I've always been into solo games because I usually could only meet up for games one night a week and always want to play more.

      @@ShaneandStuff hi Shane, I got both the base game and expansion. Do you recommend starting with the expansion in the first play ?

      @@shrekage Hi, Yes absolutely start with the expansion. It has some refined rules and just is overall more fun to play with a progressive RPG like system to upgrade your slinger as you go through the Tall Tale and more fun stuff. You will want to check out my other video on everything you need to know to play with the Northern Territory expansion and you will want to download the modified Valley of Death campaign which is the tall tale from the core game that needed some adjustments to work with the changes. Find that link on that videos description. ruclips.net/video/IgXUHlNeDHA/видео.html

      I'm glad you have found it useful! Yeah unfortunately the incredibly talented artist is also the designer and the publisher wasn't much help in the instructions. A LOT of things are better when you add the expansion and in my mind, the expansion really makes the game even more fun plus adding a lot more campaign. Let me know if you have any questions, check out my videos on the epansion, and be sure to go to the Grimslingers facebook page and even as the designer directly. Stephen is an awesome guy.

    I am just starting to play but I believe there is an error on how you are handling the deactivated cards at the end of creature battle. It states after a creature battle you leave discarded and deactivated as is. You only get deactivated cards back by paying the 3 EP either during combat or in a resting zone, otherwise you are giving yourself a free reactivation at the end of every battle. Page 36 indicates this "All Deactivated and discarded cards a player may have will stay deactivated and discarded" - under End of A creature Duel step 1: clean up. If there is another rule otherwise conflicting with this, let me know. I have found this rule book to be somewhat lacking on clarification on many things, even at 3rd edition, which is a little disappointing.
    Theme, artwork, gameplay (that I understand) is pretty good and I am enjoying the game other than the frustrations with not always knowing exactly how to do things. Like discarding - do you always discard to your own players discard pile or the main item discard pile (specifically when its asking for items to be discarded for something...like the hiring of Hank)? I ask this due to the main item deck having its own discard pile.

    • @ShaneandStuff

      Execellent question! When I made this video I had 2nd edition rules and was working with the in progress 3rd edition rules so that is a change that happened after I made the video so you are correct, discarded and deactivated cards stay that way.
      As for discarding items, page 17 (at least in the online rules) explains the differences between discarding and deactivating. There it explains that discarding spells goes into your personal discard items. But if you are instructed to discard an item, it goes in to the item discard deck.
      I highly recommend getting the Northern Territories expansion. It adds a TON of content, further refined rules and I have a video talking about all the differences. It makes the Story mode play differently but is a lot more fun setting up the map via a fate deck. Check it out!
      In summary, I don't even have a hard copy of the 3rd edition rules I have 2nd and 4th. You can find pdfs of all the latest rules here:

    When the RN of you and the creature is the same, the creatures goes first according to my third ed rulebook. You say to roll a die. That's incorrect, right?

    • @ShaneandStuff
      @ShaneandStuff  6 лет назад

      When I made this video, the 3rd edition rules were still being written. My core set had 2nd edition rules so you are correct Creature always goes first. I am right now editing a new tutorial for the Northern Territory expansion!

    going to play this with my friends this weekend. sorry to be a pain but can I ask a question? if I kill a monster and a colleague has an unresolved spell against it do they keep it in their hand? does it go to discard or other? I think I have missed this I the rules can you clear it up for me?

    • @ShaneandStuff
      @ShaneandStuff  5 лет назад +1

      Good question. In all my learning and asking the designer questions, the answer is usually what makes sense thematically. Since it first only mentions discarded or deactived cards remain discarded or deactivated, I would interpret that an unresolved card goes back into your hand. It's an item or spell you were going to use in the battle, but the battle ended first.
      Happy gaming! It's a really fun system with a lot of little intricacies that are very rewarding when playing.

      @@ShaneandStuff we played today bit the game brought up a lot of questions and rule book referencing constantly. It did not flow it was a bit clunky and hard to get into. I can see where this was going but the constant work of trying to interperate rules dragged the game out for hours. I hope I can get the guys to do chapter 2

    • @ShaneandStuff

      @@NeoBurley yes I had the same experience while playing solo as the rulebook was not the greatest unfortunately. That's one reason why I made the video to make clearer a lot of the things. It's best to think of the game line a sandbox. There are a lot of cool things that can happen that the rulebook doesn't necessarily cover. The answer to the questions are pretty much always whatever is most thematic. So if you try not to be super rigid on the rules but role play a little bit thinking about what makes most sense that's basically the way to go.
      Hopefully you get a other shot, also remember you can play it solo 😁. And I do think the expansion makes a lot of improvements both rules and gameplay wise. Check out my video on that and see what changes.

      @@ShaneandStuff thank you for your reply on this, I have played it a few times solo before hand to get the gist of the game and it has a lot of potential but a little like swimming through custard when it comes to the rules. I really like the game but it appears the only option now is solo play, especially now we have tried Mistfall.

    Heyhey, I'm still on the fence for backing the new KS. Would you say the campaign is a 1x play or is it still cool playing it multiple times over? Once you know the entire story, is it still enjoyable to play it again?

    • @ShaneandStuff
      @ShaneandStuff  7 лет назад

      AcidFix 006 I haven't had time to go past chapter 1 yet and i plan to this week. replaying the 1st chapter was just as fun as the first time. There are enough random variables that keep it interesting and different. You can take different paths towards the locations that advance the story, random draws of items, trying different items when you can search for what you want, choosing different signature spells, fighting different creatures determined by a roll of the die and the randomness of how they fight you. I really liked it all. I'll probably complete the story solo but I also really want to play through with others who will get into the theme as much as I do! and then the expansion is bringing a whole new campaign and awesome new features. Going to have plenty of content I think. I'll comment again once I finish the campaign.

    thanks for the play through. what's the set up time for this game? how about play time for a full game? is it finicky and easy to miss rules? strongly considering setting it up to play solo.

    • @ShaneandStuff
      @ShaneandStuff  7 лет назад +1

      Hi, Zach, sorry it took me a while to respond. Set up time is not long at all. You just separate out the monster cards and other decks, pick your Grimslinger, Anima, and Archetype, give yourself the 6 starting spells and then you start. The rules are not that crazy and if you check out my reference sheet it helps a lot. It is necessary to understand dueling so watch my duels video too. It's been a little since I played so I'd have to refresh myself but if you have any questions let me know. I really enjoy both multiplayer and the campaign (which can also be played co-op with up to 4 people, er Grimslingers. :)

    Hey Shane, what is the difference between the 3rd edition and previous releases. I currently have an opportunity to pick up the game second hand but I haven't heard good things about the game in its previous editions. If I pick the game up, am I going to be able to import it to 3rd edition or should I just buy the 3rd edition new?

    • @ShaneandStuff
      @ShaneandStuff  7 лет назад

      The game is the same the difference is in the rules. Mostly the versus mode and how duels work is what changed. The Campaign is mostly the same except when dueling. You can follow the links in the description or google grimslingers latest rules when you get it.

    What edition is this?

    • @ShaneandStuff
      @ShaneandStuff  4 года назад

      Sorry I missed this comment from so long ago. This was 2nd edition printing according to the 3rd edition rules which at the time were still being written the link to which was provided in the description of this video but is a dead link now so I will replace with the link to the actual final 3rd edition rules. The 3rd edition rules are what will be in the box if you buy Grimslingers today. If you buy Northern Territories (The expansion which IMO, is the only way to play Grimslingers) it has 4th edition rules and the 3rd edition rules are irrelevant.
      See the comment by "theMCGuiRE review" and my response which points out a change that was made to 3rd edition rules after I made this video.
      Here are the current 3rd edition rules:
