@@diijjon this and this reply, I would loooove something like this where it’s a little more puzzle than combat maybe, or just some downtime to solve a puzzle between conbat encounters. D2 gunplay is great sure, but it’s not Warframe tier where it basically doesn’t need puzzles to remain entertaining (though you could argue the hacking minigames are light puzzles in game) so a little variation like in the expunge missions would be great going forward.
@@diijjon the fact that we haven't had one in a while and that the season is gonna take place in the Dreaming City and give it closure screams 15th wish to me. Maybe through something obscure like going through the last wish all the way to the final run, but the end of activity timer doesn't appear, we find a secret passage to go back to the top of Riven's zone and going back through the raid now has wall symbols scattered around in hidden places. Finding them all and introcing them correctly in the wall of wishes causes a blast of taken energy that breaks the wall and creates a portal to the secret activity. There are so many possibilities with the city of secrets.

As far as having the NPC's fighting with us I feel the little bits we had of Cayde and Petra fighting in the Prison of Elders was great and I wish we would see more of that.
In the Red War Ikora and Zavala fight too. Zavala wasn't entirely scripted tho too, he stood and held down the tower stairs and put down a bubble every now and then. We need more like that.
I love this seasons story a ton. I actually make an effort to call them Eliksni and no longer use the term Fallen unless it's the bad ones who are indeed Fallen

re:Factions: They have more opportunity to be relevant away from the city than inside of it. It seems very late in Destiny's life for the dev team to be growing as much as they are but they're really pushing things forward on a lot of fronts. it's good to see :)
It’s not really late in the grand scheme of things, we have witch queen, light fall and another confirmed expansion after, they have also said that they will support destiny for a long time

I just want them to bring back the rewards from Factions, couldn't care less about their narratives. They never felt particularly interesting in the first place. What is interesting, however, are Dead Orbit shaders. That's all I want. :p
I found it was fitting that the final mission was an Override mission. It was by no means amazing but everybody seems to forget that we did normal Override as training to become a Sacred Splicer. Yes it was very basic and everyone could do it, but story wise it was supposed to be training. I liked that out Splicer training culminated with the final splice when the Vex were at our door and we had to use our training to repel the attack. In the City. Where the Vex have supposedly never been. I dunno i just thought it was a nice touch.
I hope possibly new factions form overtime like maybe there’s a new faction that’s completely dedicated to the darkness and they want everyone to abandon the light. Would be interesting leading up to lightfall
Story content has been overwhelmingly awesome the past few seasons. The divide between the eliksni and humans hits so many irl beats which just makes it that more relatable. Saint going from a monster told to children at night to a brother in arms who acknowledges them as his people was very powerful.
For me expunge was a far better seasonal activity, it was shorter per activity in general. I don't mind decent length activities but the last couple battlegrounds were pushing 30 mins or more especially with randoms.
Being able to farm Tartarus in 5-6 minutes was both efficient but also challenging. Like I was racing myself each time but still getting resources from it.
Wells with phoenix protocol, and double ursas are gonna be the play to keep these orbs going. Gonna be an extremely difficult GM that boss room has little to no cover and you get attacked from 3 angles at once
So excited for mara to come back. So many possibilities for the lore of the game and I can't wait to see what bungie has in store after this wonderful story-packed season.
Agree on that. I was able to get to and slightly above GM level for the first time ever. Life intervened and I didn't actually get to do any but with a long season coming up I'm ok with that.
@@JBinFL I was able to do it even though I haven't played in a year. Basically you have to bounty grind for the first couple of weeks. The most effective ones I had found was to grind out all the core activities as they give you powerful gear, but any planet could work too.
I will say this: I have yet to use a single armor synthesis so the seasonal limit is not an issue at all to me. I know other people definitely do care but I couldn’t decide on any armor that I wanted to synthesize right now. The hardcore and the fashion fans obvious don’t like the limit but I feel like there’s enough people that won’t mind it as much.
I’ve grabbed a bunch of pieces, but my biggest issue was the grind cap it had to get bounties. With that out of the way next season I don’t hate the system too much

Eh, it was fine. I played pretty casually, got to 60 in the season pass, played with friends mostly and played other games inbetween. Fine, it was fine. Everything is fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE
The story and character building this season was a HUGE step up from any other story telling so far in Destiny. Mithrax and Saint - 14 definitely have a bromance going and I'm all for it
@@gavo7911 Saint is a cold killer, he's numbed to killing when it comes to enemies of the city / traveler. Saint preaches violence in trials, so for him to just agree with the fallen with very little self turmoil feels forced. He was convinced with: Saint bad cuz he killed those who attacked him / the city. Saint bad cuz scary.
@@Alckee6904 I’m pretty sure he sees himself as a protector of the weak and innocent and seeing Eliksni as an actual other race that isn’t just “kill all humans” showed him some eliksni are just as weak and innocent as the humans in the city. Seeing those eliksni fear him and see him as a literal demon kinda made him do some introspection and I think it did shake him up (I think there’s a lore tab about that too).
Good stuff as always on the game. This season felt pretty good to me and it's nice that you can go back and work on previous seasonal content. FOMO isn't nearly what it was before and that's a good thing. But let's be clear. The star of this video is Brim just laid out on the floor in the background at 7:40
I actually got Vex in the last mission instead of Taken. Kinda glad. Taken make more sense then any of the other enemy races coming out of Vex portals, but all the cutscenes show Vex, so the Taken make no sense to be fought in that one.
one of the expunges (forget the name) had mechanics that strangely reminded me of spy missions in warframe. The expunge was the ball carrying one against the cyclops. edit: but Datto, the NPCs HAVE fought with us three times before. somewhat before the ghaul fight in red war, but they were mostly wounded; zavala had his bubble in the OG Destiny 2 tutorial/beta and ikora nova bombed a thresher; and THE FREAKING PRISON OF ELDERS IN FORESAKEN Cayde can be seen fighting all over the place during the first mission!
I think those were more controlled environments though than a 6 man activity. In the opening to the Red War we saw maybe a few other new guardians, by the time we got to Ikora we were alone again and while Cayde was handled the best imo, that was still an intro mission to a new expansion and we could have 2 other people with us, tops. Those missions are always the same, the seasonal activities take place on various planets, you'd need to think about how many NPC's are there and which ones at which locations, etc. This isn't to say I'm not also all for NPC's fighting with us of course. Hell, I hope to see Mara in action next season since we haven't seen her do anything but make a room shake when she raised her voice that one time in Forsaken but I digress. I don't imagine its easy to organise all of what we've seen them do before at the best of times and I imagine it would be even more difficult to organise that for larger scale activities.
It was part of the season though, the armor and weapons have the splicer symbol. (Whereas DSC has beyond light symbol instead of season of the hunt symbol)
Datto do you (or anyone here) know when crossplay is supposed to launch? I've read somewhere that it's supposed to come with S15 but I'm not sure how confirmed that is or if it'll be at the beginning of the season or somewhere in the middle
It's not been confirmed. The most we've gotten is it'll come "early" into season 15, but if season 15 could potentially be 6 months or something, then early could mean 2 months for all we know xD
Quick question. I haven’t played destiney since they did the winter solstice in year one. All my armor is (was) pretty good for back then but idk if it’s still worth keeping. Any tips on activities I should be doing. I’m light level 1270
I personally liked this season more than last season. The theme was visually really cool and I liked it better and the story of this season made me more immersed. (I'm sad I couldn't be the one that put a bullet in lakshmis head) and just overall I had more fun in this season than last.
I love where the story is going but I would love to actually see our guardian do something in some cutscenes. How much more cool would it have been if instead of Ikora flying in and casting 2 supers, it was actually our guardian. Depending on your class they would fly in and throw one shutdown super and then pop a roaming super. I love that Ikora got a moment to actually do something but it was a huge missed opportunity to see our guardian be the badass that we are in a cutscene.
I definitely doubt factions are dead. Like datto said we'll probably get some indication as to what happened to the rest of leadership. Dead Orbit and New Monarchy did get SOME characterization so to throw that away completely is unlikely. I see this more as a way to just put it aside until they're out of the oven.
I enjoyed the story being told this season but I really didn’t find the seasonal gameplay loop interesting at all so I stopped playing at around week 4 or 5
Factions leaving wasn't really unexpected. They've been prepping for a while now, the only unexpected part about it was when they would do it. And this won't be the last we hear of them in sure. And they are used in quite a bit of story. But I guess if you mean faction focused seasons you're right.
For New Monarchy, it makes sense they fled, so as to not have to face the Justice of the city. And Dead Orbit leaving also makes a ton of sense since there whole shtick was to live in space to avoid the darkness returning (and since it did, they left).
I honestly enjoyed this season’s activity I definitely played it way more than modes in the past. And nearing the end of the season I’m still running it but mostly for weapon catalysts or to test out builds
Hey datto, not here to argue just giving a second opinion, the Quria fight was pretty cool, and while I can agree they wanna give some sense of completion doesn’t mean it has to be super easy, for a big boss like this (while I would’ve preferred a dungeon) they could’ve at least made it a darkness zone since were able to solo it. Give some sense of urgency ig, I mean I only died like twice but it would’ve made it at least feeeel like a boss. Curious your thoughts or anyone.
Can someone advise: if I buy Beyond Light and the season pass, will I get to replay the *seasonal story* content as well, or only the seasonal activities? With a 6 month long season coming up this might be the right time to catch up but not if I don't get to see the story unfold.
10 levels its ok my weekend friends even doing raid every week just now are on the 1319 because they use just one character so this was a mayor change, now next season they can catch up ane do trials or master raid with all the clan
I think what you said about core playlists making the seasons feel worse because of their lack of updates is 100% true. As a crucible main these past few seasons just haven't seemed good to me and its probably because the part of the game that I care about the most has gotten almost 0 updates.
I had taken the beyond light launch and Chosen off for life reasons and this was my first season back in a while, I really enjoyed it! Override was simple enough that you didn’t need to try too hard but you had the seasonal challenges to passively accomplish objectives throughout the season. Started Master NF for the first time and was impressed but still wish there was an easier way to get masterwork materials for people who mostly play solo. I have no problem LFG’ing but most of my other friends who play destiny didn’t find this season as interesting after Chosen.
I have a feeling that in a season or two we'll hear about the faction ships being destroyed by the pyramid ships when they were trying to leave the system.
Imo bungie's cutcene game needs to step up. Who didn't want to see Saint pop a bubble at the last second to protect his new Eliksni allies? Would have been tight just cinematically, as well as the call back to the demon Saint cutscene earlier in the season where Mithrax talks about how no eliksni ever returned from his ward. To flip that and show it as a tool of protection and not death seems just sooooo obvious
I’m glad they did away with factions finally, they were just vendors and didn’t really serve any purpose outside of just giving players their own “identity” which know comes from titles and transmog, and we really don’t need anymore vendors who just sell stuff we more than likely won’t care about after awhile.
cryosthesia was a cool weapon, but the constant switching between "fire on trigger press" and "fire on trigger release" makes it too annoying to use. i wouldn't mind buffs, but i'd really like it if they make the gun less schizophrenic
NPCs have been fighting with us before. Frames in the Europa Lost sector, Saint in the mission (even though it was only a bubble) and Zavala in the vanilla campain. The could just stand there and "miss" all enemies or something. Saint could have done a bubble. I was so unsatisfied for that ending. it was just another cutscene without us in the scene. even as they say "the guardian has closed the portal" and then all NPC come to the rescue. We could have been in that scene at least, but no....
Dead Orbit leaving was a bit of a surprise to me, but New Monarchy was directly working alongside the FWC so it makes sense that they wouldn't be welcome in the City anymore.
Got into a final override this weekend where no one else logged in till the boss, the enemy density for 1 person was insane (but doable) would have been better for 3 people I think. It wasn't the huge arena that seasonal activity was in the.... was it lighthouse can't remember what it was called.
Climax was pretty disappointing for me. Last City override really felt fast paced and the dialogue made it seem like time was of the essence. Then the cutscene played at it just felt lackluster, Saint doesn’t uses his bubble, standing out in the open while only a dozen vex miss all their shots, ikora nova bombing her own team and it doing no damage for some reason… the list goes on. Feels phoned in.
Yeah, it was better than nothing but the cutscene did kinda lose the momentum outside of outright showing everyone that Osiris is pretty much confirmed bad.
I hope that some of the Consensus faction weapon models (mostly New Monarchy) end up in the world pool. Song of Justice IV, Quitclaim Shotgun III, Three Graves, Guiding Star, Controlling Vision, all really cool models just sitting in the DCV. also Controlling Vision is just a Glock with a silencer and that fucking rules
The factions were very inconsequential compared to the rest of the destiny story and characters. Who knows? Maybe we’ll hear from them as time goes on in a surface level way like a whisper in the lore.
I very much enjoyed this season, but I feel that it massively overstayed its welcome and I haven't played (except for coming back this week to play the finale) at all in the last six weeks or so as I was getting burned out. I am very much looking forward to the new season.
If you think this one outstayed its welcome that much... I look forward to next season as well, but not to how it's going to feel past the week 10 mark. Its going to be rough unless Bungie really have this under control and have a bloody good plan.
Key thing I heard Datto say a lot was "Bungie is fixing that". If nothing else, they've actually been fixing bugs and content quickly. The fact they are redoing the perks on the Moon and DC stuff so quickly shows they are listening. And that is just one example. Had to take the entire Season 14 off but looking to get back in for 15.
The issue with Quiria is that casuals have no clue who they are. It's an enemy mentioned in a couple lore books before they became the big bad of this season. How much of the story is still buried and difficult to access is a pain point for me personally. That and the implementation of old season content needs a bit of work. Otherwise a great season. Just wish I wasn't burnt out.

While I wish we got to fight alongside them in gameplay, the narrative of the ending is exactly what I wanted it to be.
The cut scenes are just incredible especially the saint 14/eliksni cut scene
I found the schism and then switch a bit cartoonish in its simplicity, but as a sidebar to a season, it did a good job.

Grinding 10 LLs instead of 50 was great. I was able to run some GMs.
I got my first Conqueror and Gilded it, great change.

Honestly, I only had 2 sets in mind that I transmogged; the Escalation Protocol armor, and the Prestige Leviathan armor.

@@Alckee6904 I’m pretty sure he sees himself as a protector of the weak and innocent and seeing Eliksni as an actual other race that isn’t just “kill all humans” showed him some eliksni are just as weak and innocent as the humans in the city. Seeing those eliksni fear him and see him as a literal demon kinda made him do some introspection and I think it did shake him up (I think there’s a lore tab about that too).

The Black Armory shaders and armor came back, so I think this will happen eventually
I actually got Vex in the last mission instead of Taken. Kinda glad. Taken make more sense then any of the other enemy races coming out of Vex portals, but all the cutscenes show Vex, so the Taken make no sense to be fought in that one.
I really enjoyed this video. I haven't said that in a while about a Datto vid so I think that means that the future of Destiny 2 is probably bright.

I really love the factions always have since year 1 and it upsets me to see them gone.

Think I might have to hit up suite 307, I have been more interested in the lore after this season than any other
one of the expunges (forget the name) had mechanics that strangely reminded me of spy missions in warframe. The expunge was the ball carrying one against the cyclops.
edit: but Datto, the NPCs HAVE fought with us three times before. somewhat before the ghaul fight in red war, but they were mostly wounded; zavala had his bubble in the OG Destiny 2 tutorial/beta and ikora nova bombed a thresher; and THE FREAKING PRISON OF ELDERS IN FORESAKEN Cayde can be seen fighting all over the place during the first mission!
I think those were more controlled environments though than a 6 man activity.
In the opening to the Red War we saw maybe a few other new guardians, by the time we got to Ikora we were alone again and while Cayde was handled the best imo, that was still an intro mission to a new expansion and we could have 2 other people with us, tops.
Those missions are always the same, the seasonal activities take place on various planets, you'd need to think about how many NPC's are there and which ones at which locations, etc.
This isn't to say I'm not also all for NPC's fighting with us of course. Hell, I hope to see Mara in action next season since we haven't seen her do anything but make a room shake when she raised her voice that one time in Forsaken but I digress.
I don't imagine its easy to organise all of what we've seen them do before at the best of times and I imagine it would be even more difficult to organise that for larger scale activities.

Datto do you (or anyone here) know when crossplay is supposed to launch? I've read somewhere that it's supposed to come with S15 but I'm not sure how confirmed that is or if it'll be at the beginning of the season or somewhere in the middle
It's not been confirmed.
The most we've gotten is it'll come "early" into season 15, but if season 15 could potentially be 6 months or something, then early could mean 2 months for all we know xD
I feel like D2 desperately needs like 2 or 3 new strikes and a new Dungeon.
Really hopeful we get one this season. Would make sense considering it's length.

Quick question. I haven’t played destiney since they did the winter solstice in year one. All my armor is (was) pretty good for back then but idk if it’s still worth keeping. Any tips on activities I should be doing. I’m light level 1270
I personally liked this season more than last season. The theme was visually really cool and I liked it better and the story of this season made me more immersed. (I'm sad I couldn't be the one that put a bullet in lakshmis head) and just overall I had more fun in this season than last.

@@gameup3926 the first thing that comes to mind for a good season is either forge or the one with the menagerie, those ones were pretty fun to play.
@@tylerperlenfein Forge was decent but Niobe labs was just ridiculous and the questline to unlock the forges made me want to kill myself.
I love where the story is going but I would love to actually see our guardian do something in some cutscenes. How much more cool would it have been if instead of Ikora flying in and casting 2 supers, it was actually our guardian. Depending on your class they would fly in and throw one shutdown super and then pop a roaming super.
I love that Ikora got a moment to actually do something but it was a huge missed opportunity to see our guardian be the badass that we are in a cutscene.
I agree that Chosen’s activities felt a more substantial, my thought is that because of the raid the other things are a bit lighter

I definitely doubt factions are dead. Like datto said we'll probably get some indication as to what happened to the rest of leadership. Dead Orbit and New Monarchy did get SOME characterization so to throw that away completely is unlikely. I see this more as a way to just put it aside until they're out of the oven.
I enjoyed the story being told this season but I really didn’t find the seasonal gameplay loop interesting at all so I stopped playing at around week 4 or 5
Factions leaving wasn't really unexpected. They've been prepping for a while now, the only unexpected part about it was when they would do it. And this won't be the last we hear of them in sure. And they are used in quite a bit of story. But I guess if you mean faction focused seasons you're right.
I'm excited as a new player, half the time i don't really get what's going on but it seems to be good stuff :D
For New Monarchy, it makes sense they fled, so as to not have to face the Justice of the city. And Dead Orbit leaving also makes a ton of sense since there whole shtick was to live in space to avoid the darkness returning (and since it did, they left).

I got that fatigue feeling this season honestly and I probably won't be playing the game for a bit but I will look forward to seeing your videos on it

I honestly enjoyed this season’s activity I definitely played it way more than modes in the past. And nearing the end of the season I’m still running it but mostly for weapon catalysts or to test out builds

Hey datto, not here to argue just giving a second opinion, the Quria fight was pretty cool, and while I can agree they wanna give some sense of completion doesn’t mean it has to be super easy, for a big boss like this (while I would’ve preferred a dungeon) they could’ve at least made it a darkness zone since were able to solo it. Give some sense of urgency ig, I mean I only died like twice but it would’ve made it at least feeeel like a boss. Curious your thoughts or anyone.
Can someone advise: if I buy Beyond Light and the season pass, will I get to replay the *seasonal story* content as well, or only the seasonal activities? With a 6 month long season coming up this might be the right time to catch up but not if I don't get to see the story unfold.
I give it an A+ because it actually made it worthwhile to come back after an almost a year and a half hiatus.

10 levels its ok my weekend friends even doing raid every week just now are on the 1319 because they use just one character so this was a mayor change, now next season they can catch up ane do trials or master raid with all the clan

This season was one of the better stories and activities in a long time.
I think what you said about core playlists making the seasons feel worse because of their lack of updates is 100% true. As a crucible main these past few seasons just haven't seemed good to me and its probably because the part of the game that I care about the most has gotten almost 0 updates.
I had taken the beyond light launch and Chosen off for life reasons and this was my first season back in a while, I really enjoyed it! Override was simple enough that you didn’t need to try too hard but you had the seasonal challenges to passively accomplish objectives throughout the season. Started Master NF for the first time and was impressed but still wish there was an easier way to get masterwork materials for people who mostly play solo. I have no problem LFG’ing but most of my other friends who play destiny didn’t find this season as interesting after Chosen.

Imo bungie's cutcene game needs to step up. Who didn't want to see Saint pop a bubble at the last second to protect his new Eliksni allies? Would have been tight just cinematically, as well as the call back to the demon Saint cutscene earlier in the season where Mithrax talks about how no eliksni ever returned from his ward. To flip that and show it as a tool of protection and not death seems just sooooo obvious
I’m glad they did away with factions finally, they were just vendors and didn’t really serve any purpose outside of just giving players their own “identity” which know comes from titles and transmog, and we really don’t need anymore vendors who just sell stuff we more than likely won’t care about after awhile.
cryosthesia was a cool weapon, but the constant switching between "fire on trigger press" and "fire on trigger release" makes it too annoying to use. i wouldn't mind buffs, but i'd really like it if they make the gun less schizophrenic

NPCs have been fighting with us before. Frames in the Europa Lost sector, Saint in the mission (even though it was only a bubble) and Zavala in the vanilla campain. The could just stand there and "miss" all enemies or something. Saint could have done a bubble. I was so unsatisfied for that ending. it was just another cutscene without us in the scene. even as they say "the guardian has closed the portal" and then all NPC come to the rescue. We could have been in that scene at least, but no....
Dead Orbit leaving was a bit of a surprise to me, but New Monarchy was directly working alongside the FWC so it makes sense that they wouldn't be welcome in the City anymore.
Got into a final override this weekend where no one else logged in till the boss, the enemy density for 1 person was insane (but doable) would have been better for 3 people I think. It wasn't the huge arena that seasonal activity was in the.... was it lighthouse can't remember what it was called.
Climax was pretty disappointing for me.
Last City override really felt fast paced and the dialogue made it seem like time was of the essence.
Then the cutscene played at it just felt lackluster, Saint doesn’t uses his bubble, standing out in the open while only a dozen vex miss all their shots, ikora nova bombing her own team and it doing no damage for some reason… the list goes on. Feels phoned in.
Yeah, it was better than nothing but the cutscene did kinda lose the momentum outside of outright showing everyone that Osiris is pretty much confirmed bad.
What I think is funny is how little enemies the NPCs actually ever fight in cutscenes

We rescue random frames in Europa Lost sectors, and they fight with us. Same with Spiders army.
Bungie can absolutely have the NPCs fight with us.

The factions were very inconsequential compared to the rest of the destiny story and characters.
Who knows? Maybe we’ll hear from them as time goes on in a surface level way like a whisper in the lore.
I very much enjoyed this season, but I feel that it massively overstayed its welcome and I haven't played (except for coming back this week to play the finale) at all in the last six weeks or so as I was getting burned out.
I am very much looking forward to the new season.

I look forward to next season as well, but not to how it's going to feel past the week 10 mark. Its going to be rough unless Bungie really have this under control and have a bloody good plan.
Key thing I heard Datto say a lot was "Bungie is fixing that". If nothing else, they've actually been fixing bugs and content quickly. The fact they are redoing the perks on the Moon and DC stuff so quickly shows they are listening. And that is just one example. Had to take the entire Season 14 off but looking to get back in for 15.
The issue with Quiria is that casuals have no clue who they are. It's an enemy mentioned in a couple lore books before they became the big bad of this season. How much of the story is still buried and difficult to access is a pain point for me personally. That and the implementation of old season content needs a bit of work. Otherwise a great season. Just wish I wasn't burnt out.
