the society, first of all, has no colors because colors alone give people choices which could lead to disagreement or chaos. But The Giver is really a good book.
That is dumb... Between really white and really black are so many nuances of gray...That is the same as colors...Besides, which colors would have such an effect? It sounds very pseudo-scientific.
📚 Had read this book in middle school "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, and I had thought it was a great read. 🤯 This dystopian classic takes you on an emotional rollercoaster through a world without pain, but also without true feelings. 🧘♂️ Jonas' journey to discover the truth about his society will leave you questioning what it means to be human. A must-read that will stick with you long after you've turned the last page! 💫 #BookReview #TheGiver #MustRead
These words were taken right from the ancient book written 2,500 years ago by Laozi 2:23 :: “All in the world know the beauty of the beautiful, and in doing this they have (the idea of) what ugliness is; they all know the skill of the skilful, and in doing this they have (the idea of) what the want of skill is. “
@@oneminbooks8115 I mean, the absence of any difference AT ALL is foundational to the book, so its a little odd that you only really give it a passing mention, and portray the society in color, including a diverse group of people.
There are so many inaccuracies with this video that if a student used it to write their book report on the novel, I would know they had not read the book.
Guys, when we found out that Rosemary was The Giver's child, I literally died inside. I wasn't expecting that. As a reader, I have experienced many plot twists, but none have ever affected me that much. Also, when we found out that Rosemary had killed herself, I was so hurt.
Just finished this novel as an ea and i think it is a good book for youth to read as the ending not knowing what happens (im looking into ordering the others) but its nice hearing what they percieve. I personally enjoyed the novel. sorry for grammar
Thanks a lot for your work! I had to start reading the giver because I'll have to write an exam about it, but I dont really like reading... your video was full of information! :D
There's a series of 'The Giver' by Lois Lowry, and we find that Jonas actually meets the main character, Kira, of the 'Gathering Blue'. I don't want to give any spoilers away, but they have a good relationship in the final novel of the series.
I’m not going to ruin the other 3 books in this series but he does die but Lois Lowry said Jonas did die in the giver but to make the books better and to make more money she made it where he was alive
Ah, I understand now. You're highlighting the difference between a society where superficial differences exist but hold no intrinsic value or significance, and one where even such differences are eradicated entirely, as depicted in "The Giver." In your experience, you simply made a choice to have your house painted differently, akin to selecting a smartphone cover or choosing a unique color for a personal item. These choices may not carry deep societal implications but still allow for individual expression within a broader context of social equality and cooperation. ChatGPT 🌹♥️👍
i think that The Giver is a perfect reinactment of what is goin on in our current society. The mainsteram media is trying to make people forget that things have happened, that people have died and that moving on could feel easy should you give up your abilties to see what was right in front of your very eyes.
this video just summarized my entire summer reading book perfectly but my mom says i have to read the entire book just incase they ask extra questions (my mom said this every year but she was never correct)
So for my english class I'm supposed to read this but I sold the book to my friend a while ago and my teacher doesn't want me reading stuff online so thanks for this video man
Hi I'm from Korea, and I'm watching this because of my english academy:( Korea actually tortures students..We need to go to about 4 to 5 academies a day..and there are a biggggg amount of homework..
Sorry to hear that you are very overloaded with homework. It was like that when I was a student but we learned back then that in many countries they attended school longer, and with much harsher policies, than ours.
I just read this book and I'm confused...was the society set up by some to create a community with no sufferings while the real civilizations i mens people whi perceive colours, feel existed...i thought that the world we are now with colours ceased to exist as thaosands of years passed and only a few were left...so this society was made and they didn't remember the past...they were well manipulated.... 2) how does he find the sledge on the hill top when it was just not his memory but a memory given by the giver...... lets say it was his own memory....how was he certain he would find it at the top....when he was born in the community and never saw snow??????? 3) How will jumping to the river magically disperse memories to others....i mean they too had prolly never lived before and hence will not have memories...its not like you know how your ancestors feel how they interact, societies without reading books about them..and they don't have books 4) in the movie which had not been mentioned in the book..when he slides with the sledge with Gabriel he surpassed a pole which sent a shockwave bringing back colours to the community along with memories......was that poles surrounding the community preventing colours and feelings in that area Answer me if you can anyone
The movie was trash. They changed a ton of things that they either didn't need to, or alter the story in meaningful ways. (was there some reason they had to change the first color he sees?!)
Probably not it is heavily implied that the idea comes to the giver when Jonas ask him what happens if something happen to Jonas like if he fell into the river like the child. The giver tells him about the last receiver and how her memories went back to the people and how it was only a few weeks the Giver points out how Jonas has way more memories Jonas says yea they would hate that the only way he deals with the memories is because he has the giver there to help him. the giver than tells after deep in thought. “If you floated off in the river I suppose I could help the whole community the way I’ve helped you.
This shit was fire bro. We had to read it for English class, and though I am not fully done with it, it was really good so far, and the concept is amazing.
From the students of IBA: This summary is incorrect. Firstly the setting makes no sense, the clothes are all different and society looks too free for what it is in the books (Why western??). Secondly, it has colours, yet this is not seen until later when Jonas gets it from the giver. The things shown in the video does not mirror the tension and dystopian society of the book. Furthermore, why are there motorbikes, helicopters and santas sled there? these are not in the book, it is a bike, plane and normal sled. Also, when Jonas goes down the hill, there should only be 1 house and not a city. In conclusion, the summary does not mirror the book and it gives a wrong genre overall, taking away the important themes of the book. Please do better to ensure the meaning of the book stays the same
This is what atheist think life should be ,because According to them , God is either evil or doesn’t exist. Yet the story is about the people wanting to live in a world that feels pain and happiness because That is living. This life so much more complex that we can ever imagine.
The movie is a butchering of the book. For one thing, they age the main character up, which totally changes the impact of the story. And of course they add a romance subplot, because apparently that has to be a thing in any YA dystopia.
Seriously, we have read this at school and in my opinion, the book takes too long building up an actual good plot. We have read 200 pages of nothing basically.
If you got that message, you weren't paying attention. Jonas' world is a dystopia, its not a place we're supposed to want to live. A big part of the message of the book is the importance of variety to human flourishing.
@@frankm.2850 Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. The book is saying liberty is good and order is bad. I just don't think this is what society needs right now. I also don't think it is true that you need the bad in order to have the good.
