When I heard of Greg Gumbel’s passing, this was the game that came to mind. His call of John Stockton’s game winning three still gives me chills. R.I.P. Mr. Gumbel.
Originally, the Rockets' starting point guard was going to be Brent Price (the younger brother of Mark Price) but he was injured throughout the 1996-97 season. They could have used Sedale Threatt and Eddie Johnson. Kenny Smith was released and Sam Cassell was traded (along with Robert Horry) after the 1995-96 season.
There's something about the NBA on NBC that was special and make you fired up unlike ESPN, ABC or TNT. I miss it please go back to NBC.
Well, after next season. NBC Sports will get the NBA package in place of TNT.
It’s because ESPN is full of race baiting clowns
Been said a thousand times.. NBC producers will never be matched. Their presentation of the NBA was magical.
Bill Walton was a master on the mic. Don’t argue with me.
RIP Bill Walton

At last, the uncut version of this classic. I never liked the "NBA Greatest Games" version.
They always edit and cut certain points of great games.
Rest in peace Bill.
What a way to call your last NBA game for the Greg Gumbel before going home to CBS.
1:58:42 RIP Kelly Preston
Love it!!! Ya gotta have Game 5 - Magic Pacers from 1995 Eastern Conference Finals.
If Houston had a solid pg who knows what would have gone down
Should've only traded Horry in the Barkley deal. Keeping Cassell would've been huge.
RIP Greg Gumbel. I can't believe that the entire telecast of that game is no longer alive.
Stan Bush's "Capture the Dream"
Intro always give me goosies.
R.I.P. to all three commentators and Jerry Sloan
Why did the Rockets even play that Maloney, Bologna guy when they have guys like Sedale Threat and Eddie Johnson on the bench?
R.I.P Greg Gumbel 1946-2024
Do you have Rockets-Magic from February 2, 1997 or Lakers-Suns from December 25th,1996 Christmas day
“John Stockton sends the Utah Jazz to the NBA Finals!!!!”
