  • I wanted some wired speakers for my helmet for listening to music after my old earbuds broke. Here's the best solution I found - and that's right, I'm not interested in BlueTooth, making calls, intercoms or wireless anything, thanks very much!

I'm with you. I only want to listen to music. My current solution is a cheap/small mp3 player that came with wireless earbuds. The earbuds are uncomfortable and really hard to get the helmet off and on with them. I also hate carrying the player in my pocket. I want an mp3 player system that is all mounted to the helmet! Your solution is good, but I can't have a dangling wire to snag on things. I may take my old iPod and zip tie it to the side of the helmet and install speakers inside as you have done. Won't be able to control it however without taking off the helmet. I wish someone would design a self-contained system with nothing to carry! Speakers inside helmet, volume controller and player mounted to side of helmet. Now, that would be sweet!

What do I use in my snowmobile helmet? I bought one of those woven 'beanie' winter hats that have bluetooth speakers built in. $10 and I took them out and put them in the helmet. That was 4 years ago and they're still working great. Good sound and they last 6-8 hours on a charge. I'm sure those JBL speakers might be "better" but with all the engine/wind noise I doubt 99% of riders could tell the difference.

I can’t believe no one has figured this out yet for the motorcycle or ski industry

I have a Shark evo Gt helmet with a Cardo Bluetooth system with just the standard speakers, I did consider the JBL speakers but they are even thicker than the standard ones and I have already had to carve out some of the EPS. You are right though about ears not being symmetrical. My only real gripe is that the volume is restricted, and with earplugs in the radio that's built in to the system is only just loud enough.

Many thanks for this! Still unsure about how uncomfortable they can be and how bad the music will sound with wind and traffic sounds in the background but otherwise yes, that’s exactly what I’m looking for.

After you rode with then, were they any better at 60+ than the regular ones that come with the bluetooth things?

is there any way to connect the Sena bluetooth to this mini connector?

You'd need to have a minijack output on your bluetooth thing.

Airpod Pros work fine for me. Music. Directions. Just dip your head right over when you take your helmet off …

Cool - good to hear that can work. However, for me a £200 wireless Bluetooth ear bud was probably the exact opposite of what I was after 😁

@@MoltenMusicTech Ah, yeah - fair. They just compare very well with the best BT earphones, fit inside a helmet comfortably (many other BT earbuds don’t), and you can of course use them anywhere - not just on your bike. Music is life, and I bus, walk & hike a lot, too, so worth it for me!
I ride a lot, so I have looked seriously at Cardo and Sena options, many times (they’re ‘the big 2’). Those JBL ‘upgrade speakers’ are as good as you’ll fit in a helmet, at a reasonable price. 😎👍🏼

I would think it difficult to hear external sounds, like traffic, EMS, etc. Not to mention the combination of bike, wind and music isn't gonna be good for the ears.

Foam ear plugs plus speakers. Foamies block the wind and exhaust noise / protects the ears. The speakers keep music in the helmet. You still hear traffic.
