  • Here we test multiple brands of earbuds with the goal of finding which ones provide the following:
    1) Hearing protection and isolation from wind and road noise
    2) Comfort under helmet
    3) Work with communications units (Cardo/Sena)
    4) Good sound for comms, music, and talk radio/podcasts

Not sure if you both are trying to grow the channel, but to me if you guys could add the timestamps wether it be in the description or on the actual video, that would increase the value 10 fold. I just purchased the earbuds you guys recommended and would love to see you guys thrive. Quality over quantity all day on RUclips. Good luck!

My experience with the with the Mi 6 pro using Shoei X fourteen was terrible, very difficult to remove helmet.
The ones that worked for me :
Sennheiser CX1.0 , CX3.0 and klipsch T5M - comfrtable , very nice sound and decent sound isolation .
CX1.0 the most comfortable earbuds due to low profile with nice bass and sound isolation , CX3.0 are slightly sound better but less comfortable due to a larger earbud profile .
The Klipsch sounds great on the mids and highs but no so comfortable due to long shape of the earbud.

Would you be able to make a video on how you tuck all the wiring in / leave the earbuds in the helmet when you’re done? Do you first put the earbuds in your ear and then put on the helmet and have a lot of extra wire to deal with? I’m practicing this now and find that if I put on the earbuds prior, I need a lot of extra wire sticking out from the helmet and sometimes my helmet pushes the earbuds out of my ears anyways.

    • @Labgorilla
      @Labgorilla Месяц назад

Surely these are not left in the helmet at all but put on completely separately and then the helmet slips on top? I just bought the kzt model with a Bluetooth amplifier. The reason for this is because my helmet is a snug fit and I cannot have the built in speakers from typical Bluetooth devices. Wireless headphones don’t work either as they fall out, often leaving me with sound in only 1 ear quite often . Then when removing them , they fall off and if the come out of the helmet can hit the ground and break.

Excellent job on this video comparison. For so many years Etymotic was the choice of m'cycle earbuds which were good in the day but not cheap.
They all break eventually...but for the price I just ordered the M6 Pro. I still prefer wires to my helmet. They are like those strings your mom tied to your winter mittens so you wouldn't lose them .

I got Shures long before I got a motorcycle, and the wires fit well on my ears, but you aren't alone in not liking them. I also use them for listening to music when I'm off the bike, and they really shine for that. Another plus is now they have good BT adapters, so you can switch between wired & wireless. But if people don't care about all that, then yeah the M6 is probably a better choice.

I have found that I am just replacing wind noise with the Occlusion affect from the engine sound unless I get an ear plug that goes deep enough to fill enough of the cavity of my ear canal. The occlision affect to me at least is even worse than the wind noise. My ears ring after a ride. My solution was to go with a Hybrid Earplug/Earbud that is meant for loud work areas. These go deep in the ear canal. Hope this helps someone.

After watching your video and suffering with some KZ20 IEMs, I gave the M6 Pros a try with a Packtalk Black. They turned out to be really good. I ordered a shorter cord that was only about a foot long, so that I didn’t have so much cord to deal with and I discovered that the company can make custom ear tips for $200 at the time. I had to get impressions made at a local audiologist. They were scanned and 3d printed. Once they have impressions on file, they can make replacements for much less and they can make them for their other, more expensive models if I decided to upgrade to more or better drivers per ear. I got a pair for my wife and I don’t think that she has put in enough work in getting the right size ear tip because they keep falling out of her ears. The custom tips fit really well, but it took a little while to get food at removing them.

In Spain and possibly in other European countries, in-helmet speakers are permitted for comms and nav.
In-ear buds are not legal although I haven't heard of any prosecutions.
    It's worth checking local regs.
On the matter of vehicle noise not really being a problem, I can truthfully say that my life has been saved on a few occasions when tyre noise revealed the guy in my blind spot and I was on the point of changing lanes on a motorway (highway in US.)
With my Cardo and ear plugs sound quality is great. Some earplugs are designed to allow certain noises through.
    Good video.

I have a friend who has those earbuds and he noted some time ago that the popping noise was his chief complaint with them. I bumped into him just the other day and this topic came up again in our conversation. I asked him if he was still having the popping issue and he said no. As long as he was listening to music there was no popping. Interesting. He's also commented about how effective the active noise cancellation is.

I ride a Bandit 1200 S (Yoshimura, KN) with a HJC helmet (the cheap IS17). It is just unbearable as soon as you reach 50 mph. The noise from the exhaust and carbs inlet is not significant unless you push the throttle wide open. So it's mostly wind noise. I usually ride with custom molded ear plugs. I gave the MEE a try and it was deceptive....I still have to find a real noise effective ear bud set, allowing me to ear intercom/GPS...and no noise...

Noise canceling is game changing IMO and unfortunately the Bluetooth versions are to bulky. I've been using the Bose QC 30 combined with a shoei neotech 2 for over 2 years on my daily ride. The battery is ziptied to the rear of the helmet semi-perminately and connected to a cardo. The only popping I get is occasional and only when riding with the visor up, it's not annoying for me TBH and well worth putting up with given the Noise Canceling. Battery charge is still similar to new, I commute 4-5 hours a week and recharge the headset over the weekend, so far I haven't run out of charge. Hope that's of help.

I purchased and just rec'd the Mee A6Pros, as I have a three year old Bose QC20. As of a few weeks ago, I ride a BMW 1300 and use an older HJC rpha 70 helmet. I played the same song at its beginning (Irene Wilde), which is fairly quiet as it's a ballad. I properly fit (tried refitting several times to be sure) the Mee A6 Pros using the direct connect to my Cardo unit (I paid for the more expensive Mee with the bluetooth headset too jic). It was not even close. The Bose was sooo much better at being able to hear and quieting the loud boxter engine. I can't fathom how ya'll rated the Mees equal to the discontinued Bose. The only advantages I see are the loop around your ear should avoid the plug getting loose, and the fact they are still in production. But one can still get the Bose...in fact, after this test, I've ordered another Bose QC20 in case my current pair develop an issue.

Thank you for the video. Great detailed coverage. Why not custom ear molds? From $350 to $1500.

M6 Pro is trash. $15 Betron sound 100% better. Maybe I got a bad pair, but the volume is so much more muted than the cheap Betrons. I wish i could get a refund

I think the situational awareness that comes along with ear buds or listening to music is no different with motorcycles as it is in cars. Only with motorcycles it is a little more detrimental. you get lost in the moment and zone out with hearing things in your ear. Could be music, phone calls, or talk radio.....you are going to not concentrate on the road. It as little to do with what you are listening to or how and more to how you handle being aware when you ride or drive. There is a deeper psychological explanation but for us simple folks....you listen to stuff you dont see stuff. It means more to work on your ability to be more aware....no matter what you are doing.

I use Sony MDR EX110AP with comply memory foam tips and Cardo edge. Tried too many like you that failed miserably.

I’ve been riding with my cardo packtalk JBL speakers for past few years and no complaints this far, maybe I’ll upgrade for better sound quality for newer isus speakers soon that’s about it but I don’t like to wear ear buds

Awesome and informative video! How are y’all connecting the earbuds? And how can I get a microphone connected to it too? I have a Ruroc Atlas 4.0 which has wires already running through for the shockwave system so one side has a plug for audio and microphone to connect directly to Bluetooth. I’m interested in the M6 Pro but would like to still be able to make phone calls and communicate! Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to address this! Wife and I have been riding our bikes for over a decade (all lower-48 states, 15k miles/yr, through everything from 114deg Texas heat to 30deg Colorado peaks) with Shure SE-215 (hers) and SE-315 (his). They are both still working great (speaks to durability), comfortably (wife uses the smallest tips), and the sound is very good for comms and music. We were using them with Starcom1 wired systems (best motorcycle comm system ever - now out of business unfortunately), and now with Cardo PackTalk Bold (poor excuse for a moto comm system). All the BT systems that have taken over the market now are junk compared to Starcom1. Same as GoPro was junk compared to Contour when they out-marketed them way back when. Either way, Shure earbuds worked perfectly, and they should since they are designed to be used as musician monitors for stage performances. Any earbud that doesn't have the formable wire section and fit over the ear will be a bad choice - they must be designed (like Shure) with a shape-holding wire that loops over the ear, so they aren't pulled out when putting the helmet on or moving around on the bike in the twisties. I wouldn't even consider an IEM for helmet use unless it has this feature. And that Bose battery box... come on guys, that's rediculous for motorcycle use - another thing to manage.

Tried Inearz Soprt. Excellent but they fall out when Ii put the helmet on or take helmet off. Other than that they were perfect. Returned them. Just use -33 db foam plugs now. Waiting for a better solution.

Molded earplugs or earplugs in general will get rid of the wind noise and you will hear music/comms way better.

New Sub, informative, however I would like to see the actual install, what do you do with all the excess wires and do you fit them inside your ear then put on your helmet, or after? I am seriously hearing impaired, the high speed JBL Speakers that came with my CARDO are completely useless. I found a generic pair of ear buds and have been using them, however putting them in my ears then the helmet is AWKWARD! am I missing something?

Very good point referring to you really don't hear things anyhow, besides maybe listening for an emergency vehicle, in which you should see before you hear it if you are paying attention as a rider. If you rely on hearing mostly, then you probably shouldn't be riding . Love the Background Brother

So is the microphone sound coming from the cardo or the earbuds? I cant believe this is how motorcycles bluetooth work...
