    My wife was killed in a car accident, so I can tell you from personal experience that society seems completely blind to the fact that there are single fathers. Then again I have the proud memory of my two girls taking me out to breakfast for Father’s Day, only to hear one of the three Karens sitting behind my daughters raising a toast to “single moms who are doing double duty all on our own”. My oldest then raised her glass of orange juice and toasted me for “doing double duty without bragging about it or feeling sorry about having to do what a parent is supposed to do”. The three Karens were awfully quiet after that, and left fairly quickly.

      I’m honestly kinda shocked they did so much about someone reported as a “pedo”. It seems pedos barely get any time. I saw where California cops told the guys from one of those channels where they catfish chomos then call police, the officer told them on camera that they could arrest the guy but the da wouldn’t prosecute so there was no point. When they do get time it’s minor compared to other crimes. It’s crazy but that’s why I was surprised they went so far with the dad.
      When my son was 6 I think we’d taken him to Dave & busters & we left & drove to the hotel we were going to stay at (my husband & I had just reconciled but hadn’t found an apartment yet) just before we turned into the hotel parking lot the blue lights went on. Several cop cars were there. They cuffed my husband & put him in their car & told us someone reported us for kidnapping, saying they heard the kid saying no I don’t want to go or i don’t want to go with you or something like that. Our son never said anything like that so 🤷🏻‍♀️.
      I was flipping out trying to show them pictures, ss card, his bookbag w/ all his paperwork that I’d brought to show his dad cause he was about to start kindergarten. Our son was shaking & scared. Everything was cleared up but it was still traumatic for our son especially being so young. We just told our son that everything was ok, that we would want the police to do exactly what they did if someone really had kidnapped him. But it wasn’t something we planned to worry our son about so soon. About kidnapping & what that meant.
      The only thing we can figure is that one of the Dave & buster employees called them. Earlier my son had won a lot of tickets but the machine didn’t spit them out so we tried to get the employee to help but he just ignored us. So we got a manager. Idk if the guy was reprimanded but that’s the only person we had any negative interaction with & our son never said “no I don’t want to go” or anything close to that. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s seems like a reach but there was just nothing else that happened that could’ve led to this. They told the police our truck mode, color, & tag & describes us. (We were one of the last groups there & left just before they closed) I hate that their daughter is scared now.

    I have a kind of opposite story about being a suspicious single man in a park. After separating from my first wife I rented a house near to a public park. I used to enjoy going there early in the morning before families arrived and it got crowded. It was the perfect place for me to sit under a tree and read a book or just meditated. Once the families started arriving in the mid morning I would usually leave because it was no longer comfortable for me. I could hear parents calling out to their children like, "Jason, come back here, don't go near that man!" As a single man in the park I had become a creature of suspicion and distrust.
    One day while my 5yo daughter was with me I took her to the park. I sat under my usual tree where I could keep an eye on her playing. While I was sitting there a woman approached me with a young girl in tow, about the same age as my daughter. To my surprise she asked me to mind he daughter while she left the park to go to a shop. Even though she didn't know me the very fact I was with my daughter had miraculously transformed me from a dangerous beast into a reliable and responsible parent

    Single dads of daughters get a lot of flack. When I was living in military housing, our next door neighbor's flakey, cheating wife decided to abandon him and their two small daughters and also took a job on a cruise ship, so she was completely gone. He was constantly getting picked on by the daycare workers and preschool teachers. Once cps was called and he was required to take his daughter to the doctor to confirm that an obvious birth mark on her back was not a bruise. Another time they literally were questioning the children to ask if any of them had seen their father naked, and then reported him because his daughter had walked in on him in the bathroom as he was getting out of the shower, in a one bathroom townhouse. They told him he should have locked the bathroom door, even though he was the only adult in the house with a toddler and a preschooler. He was a good person and a good dad, and he politely suffered through all the harassment.

    Story 2: They should file an official complaint against the police officers. Sure, they need to investigate if they get a report, but they don't need to _traumatize a little girl_ and harass an innocent father in the process. The way they conducted themselves in that situation should have been better. Also, in many places, if you get a fine for something like an expired registration that's only a week out of date, and you promptly fix the registration and then take in the ticket and proof that it's been fixed now, and explain the situation, as long as you don't have a history of abuses, etc, the police clerk will quite often be willing to just waive the ticket at that point and you won't be required to actually pay it. Wheelchair story: IMO, well done OP! Wheelchairs are not toys and even a basic manual model costs hundreds of dollars. Plus, letting a young child just "climb" all over another person who can't really do anything to stop it is just... horrendously disrespectful and gross! I'd have been tempted to call the police without consulting the manager. I'd also consider going above the managers head to get more cameras installed to eliminate the blind spots.
    Unfortunately, for many the stereotype that only the mothers nurture children while fathers earn a living is still very prevalent. And that a man alone with a child is somehow "wrong". Add into that Karen's who simply thrive in creating chaos and it's suddenly a problem.

      @norarivkis2513 4 дня назад

      @heathmcconnell3901 It does answer the question, it just doesn't do so with a huge amount of detail. Most of the time, young children don't care about a huge amount of detail; they want enough that they can fit the word into their worldview, and what I suggested gives them that. But yes, if they do insist on continuing to press for further detail, your suggestion is a good next step. I would expect that to be more likely from slightly older children, who might well end up looking the word up on the internet if they don't get a satisfactory answer from their parents, but that's all right -- if they're old enough to find out on their own, they're probably old enough to absorb the answer without being traumatized.

      @SLOTHSRIDEUNICORNS First of all, that's untrue. Lying to children is a terrible idea. Second of all, it won't satisfy the child's curiosity, so they'll keep asking... if they see that they can't get anything more out of you, they'll ask somebody else, but they'll ask. And if they ask someone else, you lose the ability to control the answer they're given.

    Also to add, back when I worked in retail I had one Karen of a mother in the store letting her kid run around and pull things off shelves. The manager had told her to reign her kid in or leave, she was waiting for a few coffees. I'd been working in the coolroom where we also have the walkin freezer to bring things out to the customer freezer, which I was in the process of doing. So came out from the back only to see the kid trying to open the door to the freezer and having heard the manager telling the mother to deal with her kid came up beside him, of course kids being kids and curious they asked what I was doing, so I leant down and said quietly. "Making sure I have room in the freezer out back for children who dont stay by their parents like good little kids should." There was another customer nearby who heard and immediately tried not to laugh, but that kid was much like the terrified kid should be and immediately went back to stand by his mother, who at that point was carrying her coffees and they didnt leave their side at all. The cops have qualified immunity (which needs to end) in most US states, and even if the DA chooses to prosecute the old woman (who is completely in the wrong and deserves punishment) they'd need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she knew he wasn't taking pictures.
      It's not illegal to report non-crimes to the police unless you objectively lie. "Creepy" doesn't count because it's just an opinion and the rest of what the cops reported her as saying was technically true.
      My point isn't that she's innocent, only that the bar for false reporting is intentionally really high. Society doesn't benefit from having people fear to call police. It's sort of the same reason local cops are not supposed to be allowed to report people to immigration (which they do, and which is disgusting).

On our meeting night we cut away the bad spots, baked pies and 30 gal. of apple sauce, which we took to a shelter. The night we went was so cold, there were penquins s-scratching to get in. One of the girls had a hat, scarf, mitten thing her grandma had made, and she was proud of it. She gave it to a girl in line who didn't have a coat. Someone some dropped the girl off, and her mother called madder than a boiled owl, "How could you let her do that, BLAH, BLAH. I was proud of her. Story 2 - This reminds me of when my kids were young, and my wife took my youngest to the YMCA with her, where they had a child care center with a playground. A few minutes later my oldest changed her mind about wanting to stay home, so I agreed to drop her off. I escorted her into the child care center to check her in, only to see a care worker behind the counter holding my youngest, who immediately started bawling when she saw me standing there momentarily ignoring her. I asked my oldest to run over and comfort her, but instead she "helpfully" bolted out the door and into the playground. So there I was, trying to convince the care worker that she was holding my daughter and that I could end her tantrum in a few seconds if she would just let me hold her for a bit. Eventually she went to find my very annoyed wife, who confirmed that I was indeed the father of her children, and she finally handed my screaming kid over to me. It should be a felony to accuse someone of being a "pe*o" without proof, i.e. so in the 2nd story, after the cops came up and determined the truth, the Karen should be immediately arrested and charged an additional felony for each person she told. It's the type of accusation that destroys lives and too many people use it as a casual insult.

    • @a-blivvy-yus
      @a-blivvy-yus 4 дня назад

      It's only a "civil" violation, not a felony, but the term is "defamation". The requirements to make a claim are:
      -the statement has to be false (seems pretty obvious here).
      -the statement has to reach a third party (as in, not the person being insulted, and not the person doing the insulting, in this case, even the daughter would count).
      -the person at fault only needs to have been negligent in making the claim, you don't have to demonstrate any intent to cause harm.
      -proof of damages - *UNLESS* the claim in question is a type of insult which meets the requirements for "defamation per se" - which is anything which can be understood to be automatically offensive and harmful without any need to prove specific damages - such as, for example, the exact insult used in this instance.
      In this instance, if there was a recording, or any other meaningful physical evidence, or even just a couple of people who heard the accusation and were willing to confirm the truth about what they heard, OP would have a pretty much airtight defamation case under US law. The only ways out are to show you didn't do it (which, if there's evidence you did, is going to be a non-option), or to show that you were telling the truth (which, again, doesn't appear to be true).
      Weirdly, I know more about the US laws for this than my own local laws about it, in spite of having had a near-miss on a court case relating to my local laws when I had someone spreading a false story claiming I had assaulted and robbed them. Good times.

We are talking months of fighting with insurance companies and tens of thousands of dollars, all with the hard rule that you cannot get a new one more than every five years, and you are not allowed to buy parts "privately", it must all go via a doctors office. In theory, this was to stop companies from overprizing, in practice, it has meant ten times more of a headache for those in need of a wheelchair.

That said he'll probably forget this encounter, while he would not forget as easily getting his hand or foot mangled in a wheelchair because he refused to get off. One way or another he will learn that it's not safe to use a stranger as playground equipment. And I don't really care about One Piece as I've never seen it. :)

I also knew a few dads who were the stay-at-home parent. I know those cops were doing their jobs, but they were definitely leaning aggressively against the dad, and ignoring cues from the daughter. I would probably make a complaint about the officers, and sue the accusing woman, but I would also be afraid of retaliation, because that does happen these days. So awful.

    Story 1: OP did the best thing possible to end the situation without resorting to actual (real) bodily harm. Might have taught the brat a good lesson in the process too.
    Story 2: The moment Karen yelled 'that word' OP should have immediately called 911 to report it and to have a record of the incident logged. Then deal with police after.
    Just the utterance of that word can have extremely detrimental effects happen to Karen's victim...and not just from the police...but also in the entire neighborhood.
    As far as the police are concerned...they were entirely at fault for failing to have demonstrable probable cause to separate OP from his child. OP can file complaints for that.

    As it looks like story 2 got the most attention, it did from me as well. I had a daughter (lost her when she was 15), but she always knew she was safe with me & I would protect her from anything. If anyone ever accused me of being a pedo because I love her, I would probably exact revenge somehow.
