My Parents charged me nominal 'house money' as soon as I started working at 15. By the time I was 16, I was working enough hours to have medical insurance. I paid for all my personal & medical/dental/vision stuff. My Parents supplied my room & board. Whenever they went out to eat or on vacation, they paid for me. My Dad bought my first car ($150) & my Mom paid for the 1st 6 months of my car insurance ($50). The latter was so I could drive my car while looking for a job. I got a job 1 week after getting my car & the insurance. When I was a senior in HS, my Parents didn't take 'house money' on the condition I saved it for college. I was going to take 5 classes a term & Mom said there was no way I could work while doing that so they would allow me to keep my 'house money' because they couldn't financially help me with school. Not only did I save their 'house money', but I also matched it penny for penny. In 10 months (in 1975) I saved $3000. My Mom was totally floored when she saw my savings passbook.

I have a pretty severe tomato allergy, and my grandmother didn't believe that tomato allergies are real, so she always tried to sneak tomatoes into everything she fed me. My mom caught her in the act more often than not and saved me from an afternoon of hives and vomiting, but not every time. Despite seeing me react every time Mom failed, my grandmother still insisted I was just a picky eater. Eventually, Mom got so sick of taking me to the hospital she decided we were done going to my grandmother's house.

My Sister vomited non-stop on the train ride home with our Mom. My Sister NEVER went to our Grandmother's house again.
If I were your Mother, I would have presented your Grandmother with the bill for all those hospital visits. Money ALWAYS talks the loudest!

I'm lucky have medical training. I was at. Starbucks years ago and a lady ahead of me ordered a complex sounding drink. What she actually asked for was a non dairy drink with extra foam and full sugar syrup. The person at the counter rolled her eyes like someone ordering a drink they wanted at a place that offers customization was... extra? The only reason I remember it was a non dairy order is because when she got her drink she asked "and you're sure it's dairy free right?" And the worker snapped at her and said something to the effect of milk wouldn't hurt her but yeah of course.
Yall, the woman had an allergic reaction. I recognized it only because of a friend who is deathly allergic to shellfish. She had an epi pen and thankfully it was an auto injector. I just remember talking calmly to her and dumping her purse on the floor and instructing the customer next to me to call 911. Epi halted the reaction but her heart was beating like crazy and she started to hyperventilate. I'm so glad EMS got there quickly. It was really hard not to panic since watching someone hyperventilate is pretty scary. I found put weeks later that employee was fired because she put whipped cream in the drink. Yeah. Dairy whipping cream. In a non dairy drink. And it wasn't wasn't accident. What thebfuck is wrong with people.

My auntie didn't believe that peanut allergies were a thing.
We went over to her house for Christmas dinner. She promised my mum that there wasn't any nut products in any of the food.
But my auntie had decided to prove to my mum that my allergy was nonsense by putting ground up peanuts into the turkey stuffing.
The ambulance arrived 10 minutes after my eppi pen ran out, I hadn't been breathing for 5 minutes, no pulse, I was essentially dead.
Luckily, the EMTs got me back, but I had to be helicoptered out because of the snow.
My auntie went to the hospital in the ambulance.
Afterwards, my auntie said what she had done, my Mum attacked her with a solid brass candlestick and really messed her up.
The nurses found out what she'd done and weren't being too sympathetic towards her.
The only family my auntie had was our family, no one has spoken to her since.
She wanted to press charges against my Mum for battery, but was told we'd insist she be charged with attempted manslaughter in the first degree because it was a deliberate attack on me.
    She STFU real quick.

If you don't want to be financially responsible for kids, abstain from sex or use birth control!
My Parents were dirt poor but it wasn't until both of them had passed away that I realized just how poor we were. They never let on. They always afforded me the essentials & 1 non-essential thing. No mention of money was ever made to me, that is until I was a teenager & I made my Mom tell me why I couldn't buy a blouse I wanted. Mom was brought to tears while telling me she couldn't afford it. I told her, I'm old enough to understand that you 'Can't get blood from a stone', if you can't afford it, you can't afford it, no problem. If I want it badly enough, I'll find a way to make the money to buy it on my own. From then on, Mom was very upfront with me about whether she could afford a non-essential or not. And she still didn't bring up the cost of anything.

I would've sent a bill back for every chore I've ever done as well at that point. Everything from ever having to drive someone somewhere or taking out the trash. It's only fair that if I'm going to pay for every little thing that I get to deduct back everything I ever did as well.

Story 1: Sorry, Karen. Parenting is *supposed* to be thankless. The most you can expect in return is the words "thank you". (I'm grateful that the only time my mother complained about costs was the time I talked to my grandfather on the phone, almost an hour a night, for a month, which nearly doubled our phone bill. And she didn't bill me; she only made me promise to cut back. I even remember *exaggerating this story* to my friends at school, telling them the phone bill had been over $1,000.)
Story 2: This is just sad. Science deniers should be punished, and that includes people who don't believe in allergies. Allergies have been proven many times over, and should have the unconditional right to be accommodated at any cost.
Story 3: Further proof that it's impossible to please everyone.
Story 4: There's a phrase not enough people use in this kind of situation: "Sorry, we thought you were a no-show."
Story 5: If anyone in my family had been anywhere near as entitled as OP's mother, I would have definitely gone no-contact.

That manager was an AH. That Karen was way too close to that cashier and her till. He should have told the customer that she was intruding into an Employees only area. I hope that she has a union and went to them sighting personal endangerment and stress from a customer.

Children don't have a say in being born or raised. The parents make those choices and take on those responsibilities as a part of those choices. Speaking of parents, where was your father in all of this or was he even in the picture?
Cookie/tree nut allergy story: OP, I would simply refuse to go with them this year. They're beating a dead horse and it needs to stop.
"Happy Holidays" story: The moment Karen stepped BEHIND THE COUNTER is when security should have been called. OP, if you haven't already you should start a job search for someplace that will appreciate you over a b**chy customer.
Christmas story: As painful as it may be for him, the kid is probably a lot better off with his grandmother.
"Family" story: Quite frankly when her mother was insisting on both Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day, OP should have told her: "Mom, you get ONE or NONE and I choose which". And I'd start making plans to see the grandparents without her present.
Target story: While I'm not the biggest fan of online shopping, I do so on occasion. I'm 69 and even I realize that stores are not always going to have every single item in stock or that the last item listed on the website as still being in stock in the store can be bought by someone else that gets there first. That last story and Fluff's comments remind me of the time when my Dad went into a Ford dealer, wanting a left-handed sprocket wrangler, or clockwise blinker fluid, or tartan paint, some single item.
Counter clerk takes down the details, tappytaps his computer, says "Nah. We haven't got any".
Dad looks at him "Yes you have". "No we haven't", is the response.
"Yes you have, I can see it right there on your shelf"
"No you can't, we haven't got any"
After arguing ten minutes with this guy flatly refusing to acknowledge the evidence of his own eyes, Dad flung his hands in the air, left, and bought his item elsewhere.

Do you have your own transportation to Christmas dinner? If so, write your mom and Aunt (and anyone else who likes to bring it up) that if they mention the cookie incident, you're leaving. Then, if they mention the cookie incident, simply getup and leave. Don't say anything to anyone, just leave. If they call you about your leaving just hang up. If they text or email you, just delete it and move on. Their bringing it up is a form of abuse, you don't haver to accept abuse from anyone, including from your mom. Don't get angry, don't scream and shout, don't throw or break things. Just be disappointed that your family feels the need to belittle you and remove yourself from the situation.
