8:37 The club should have released a statement that simply said: The owner of the Chinese restaurant has decided to retire and close. Also, due to excessive operating costs and legal fees, the club is also closing.

If OP didn’t know this then there might be a good likelihood the story is made up. But if someone try this crap then all I have to say is get a lawyer. To edit: if injuries are severe enough that an employee can’t perform their job anymore they wouldn’t be fired, the company basically have to treat it like a retirement without it being an retirement meaning the employee can get any back pay or other types of pay they earned, and can apply to unemployment programs. Also some places have Medical Leave which give you time off for medical needs and company insurance cover it, but yay laws are out there to stop help those who are injured.

Why would a petition matter. I don't WANT to retire, I AM retiring. Goodbye! That's it. I can see it it was true and he was being forced out, but ask him. He wants to retire. Leave him alone. And if you care so much have a party for him for his years of service to the community and have a go fund me. Geez!!
Story 4. I would have turned the boss into the labor board, let him fire me and gone on unemployment letting them know the real situation. The only thing missing from the “Chinese restaurant” story is - in the town where this happened, there is ANOTHER fully functioning CHINESE RESTAURANT. I mean, if Karen, Kevin and the wicked witch were craving Chinese cuisine that badly, then why not walk around the corner. You never know, it might be just as good or, heaven fore-fend, possibly better than the other place 😳
The main actors motives may not be the availability of Chinese food. From scanning Reddit, there seems to be several ulterior motives that hitch on the retirement protest. Kevin for some reason wants to oust the club manager. And the restaurant owner retirement was just his vehicle to do it. Wicked Witch is restaurant owner's wife, in the process of divorcing him. Unemployed ex husband means zero alimony. I don't know what Karen wants though. Maybe she's with Kevin all along.
9:00 Little Chinese restaurant run by an old Chinese man? Yup. Gonna be some of the best. In the town I grew up in, someone built a tiny 2-unit building in one of our town squares, back in the early 90s. First tenant was a Chinese restaurant, and the other was… oh, I have no idea. But no other business has lasted more than 2 years, while the Chinese restaurant has been going strong for 30. Hmmm… think I’ll make a trip back home to pick some up. 2hr drive is worth it.
After accident, jousty restaurant MAKES you stand when unecessary and fires you when you can't. You've now got ADA violations, accomodation issues, retaliatory dismissal and a bunch of other fun stuff. You get "significant ongoing pain" and can sue them from HQ on down for a LOT of money. Enough to basically retire early.
Story 4 has to be fake. Pretty sure that's a OSHA violation to not accommodate for injured or disabled workers. Definitely feels like a slamdunk lawsuit on that company. 🤦♂️
Story 3 - OP’s boss reminds me of my old Costco boss. She was a tyrant to the younger hires (myself included, this was 2003 and I was 18 at the time) but pleasant to the older hires. I finally quit after she hounded me for no reason and then I found out a week later when I went to pick up my last paycheck from a former coworker that she was fired because of too many people quitting because of her and I was the final straw.

Unfortunately that is the case. Places can ignore doctor's notes. The only way they can't is if you actually have a union because most unions protect against that kind of thing. I feel like it should be a federal law. It's a doctor says it. It's law. If you don't like it, you're fired. Go
@aduckofsomesort actually, I was just unaware of that specific law, but regardless you do realize that state law can vary from federal law. It's not required for you to get one now every business I've ever worked for gives lunches but it's not required

Last story: Who in this day and age still need copy machine? Just buy a printer-scanner. It's less than $200, you can copy as much as you want, and you can bring it everywhere you go.
Until you run into the racket that is the sky high cost of printer ink; and I'm talking about prices higher than petrol/gasoline. It's actually cheaper in the long term for offices to still use photocopiers as toner doesn't cost as much as printer ink.
@@JamesDavy2009 In my office, copiers have subscription and it's also ink based (or toner, as copy machine supplier named it, but in my language, it's all "ink" regardless). They charge us based on how many copies we made in a month, and if we made more than their threshold, they charge us more. And yes, we also have to buy the ink if it's run out. So it's kind of the same as they charge us for their ink. And it's quite exorbitant for basically black and white prints. Meanwhile, since the adoption of economic tank by printer producers, the printer ink prices have gone way down from previously. It's now cheaper to use scan-print function of our printers. The only downside is, the prints are not water resistant. And kinda slower. Maybe that's why my boss still cling on maintaining a single copier in our office .. for the just in case scenario. edit. for price comparison, Epson ink tank cost $20 to fill and it can print 4 reams of paper. Copier toner is $80 for about the same amount of paper. And that on top of subscription. In case you ask about subscription, yes, copier machines had subscription for longer than Adobe has theirs. I think it's already like that since copier enter our country in 1970s.
Story #4: Go in. Work one day. Get a new doctor’s note. System can’t autoterminate if you’ve worked a day in the middle of it. If they fire you anyway, that’s a firing that counts as medical discrimination. There are lawyers who *love* sinking their teeth into sort of thing - and make sure the boss *knows* that. (Source: Similar event appened to my mother’s fourth husband at some point after their divorce. He was the boss in that case. (The company he worked tried to fire him to placate the injured worker but still got sued into bankruptcy.))
Story 4: “You can’t sit because it’s not pwofessional.” Same reason the airline I used to work for wouldn’t allow us a chair at the ticket counter. Oh yes, it’s VERY professional to have your employees develop back injuries from having to stand in one spot with barely any movement for 10+ hours a day sometimes. Seriously, I’m convinced the people who make these rules do not understand how the human body works on even an elementary level
If I had a worker that requested 10% incurred costs back to save me 90% of the full forecasted budget, I would rather tip them for being so smart than laugh in their face. What could go wrong...?
Story 2, even if the whole country agreed signed the petition, its still not legally binding, the restaurant owner had every right to shutdown his restaurant especially since his reason was he wanted to retire, all that energy was wasted for nothing
16:26 Kmart did the same thing to me. They said me having a stool behind my register (that I would provide MYSELF) was an "undue hardship for the store" and "a bad look" (in spite of the jewelry department employee being allowed a stool because she also had injuries), so therefore refused to honor my doctor's work restrictions. He responded by sending them a tersely worded letter explaining I would not be back for 2 weeks, possibly more pending my recovery, since they were unable to make this simple accommodation. Then I got an angry phone call from HR and was screamed at about it, because how dare my doctor tell them anything. 🙄 I also did not know about FMLA or my other rights, because the legally mandated poster was actually displayed behind the office door of the HR person, so you could only see it if you had been called in for a meeting and the door was closed. But then it would be behind you, so you wouldn't see it then either. Apparently that was considered "publicly visible." So of course my extended medical leave was unpaid because I didn't know my rights, and then I was treated like crap when I came back, and then I was fired for missing too many days because of health issues that they refused to make these simple accommodations for. This wasn't even the worst of the abuse that I suffered at that place, and I'm glad they went out of business. They deserved it.
Story 4: Everything about this job is 100% illegal in my country. Not only what happened after the carcrash but also the part about automatically terminated after missing to show up for two weeks because of being ill.
On the restaurant retirement, the protesters probably wouldn't have even been satisfied for the owner to work until he died. They'd probably start looking for someone to petition to bring him back to life, for the sole purpose of running the restaurant!
With Story 3, all I will say is this: If bathroom breaks are timed, it can be a result of employees ducking out for a 'bathroom break' to hide from work. We had such an individual at one of my jobs that would be in the bathroom, hiding in a stall, for hours on end leaving her workload on her coworkers (yes, she ended up getting caught repeatedly and finally terminated). Not saying that's the case with this particular individual, but saying that such behavior can be the cause of policies like that.
Story 4: if the O.P. lives in the U.S. and lives in a right to work state, the company can do whatever they want. The O.P. has no say in the matter because the company has more rights than the employee. Right to work states suck. If the O.P. lives in a union, then the O.P. might have a case.
Story 4: i wouldn't quit, instead I'D get workers comp through the whistle blowers, first to the labor board and tell them that our boss forced an employee who went through a disaster, to stand with no saport, going against a doctor's note, second to the ADA for the same thing, and third to the media
Story 1: her husband appears to like raising kids. He's bringing her up like one. I'm not arguing; she clearly needs it, I'm just perplexed about why he'd stay.
Story 4: It is straight up illegal to deny any accomodations for injured or disabled workers.
Employers rely on workers either not knowing that, not knowing how to challenge them on it, or being too scared/poor to.

So many men don't want to hurt their kids, and maybe are in a bad situation that they'd not get to see their kids or have to pay too much child support or alimony etc.. I've been married for 22yrs,and have one rule in mind always when it comes to my husband and kids, that I don't shame them.
Wage theft is the highest form of theft in the workplace.
Story 4: the person came to work after a week and clocked in, gave the boss the doctor’s note, thus resetting the “time off work clock.”
“Entitled Princesses” sounds like an understatement…maybe Lonesome Sluggish Cows is more
Please don't insult cows LOL 🐂🐃🐄🐂🐃🐄
Story three, it’s against the law to pay less than minimum wage. As for the rest of the stuff, get a lawyer and sue the absolute crap out of the boss and the store itself.
Afaik, in the US, restaurant is exempt from minimum wage law. The restaurant employees made most of their money from customer tips.
@@gorilladisco9108And now the government taxes those, too. Gotta love it.
@@abigailblackstock4928 Aren't both presidential candidates said they're gonna erase it? Well, cross your fingers and hope for the best (not me, I'm not American)
@gorilladisco9108 They did. Trump has better follow through, cause that is very much unacceptable.
Story 4: That boss is an idiot. Employees coming back to work fresh off an injury that they can still feel need to take it easy. If OP reinjured their back, the company would be held responsible. I believe it's what the court would call a "slam dunk"! They shouldn't be thrown into their normal unrestricted responsibilities until after they provide a note from a doctor stating they can.
Story 1: love how she told the clerk he didn't know who he was dealing with, but apparent her husband is WELL AWARE of who he was dealing with.😂😂😂
Story 1: Retail is not a flea market. You can't haggle. Prices are non-negotiable. How has she lived that long and failed to understand that? It doesn't matter if it's $10 or 10¢.
Finding this within 30 seconds of being posted? I will enjoy this victory! Fuiyoh!
The best response I have ever heard of for that whole "Do you know who I am" line was this - announce loudly to the room "Everyone, this gentleman/lady doesn't know who they are. Can anyone help them?" I wish I knew where I read this, but it just seems so perfect...
It's a missed opportunity.
The restaurant owner could encourage his regulars to laugh together at the I-know-the-owner pendejo. That would give him a third degree burn.
Story 4: OP should have sued, hell they should have talked to their doctor because their doctors lawyers are probably even better and would I’m sure would love to have a conversation with the business
Assuming the car accident OP is in the US, reasonable accommodation via the ADA is required. Being fired could likely have gotten them a payout though.
Yes, he or she is. The place OP is describing is "Medieval Times" (Just watch "The Cable Guy" to see what the place is like), and it's located in New Jersey
@@nancyomalley6286Actually, there are several locations.
@@kitarrah1422 New Jersey is the first and more well known location
@@nancyomalley6286 First Medieval Times (in the US) was in Florida. Second was in California. If it was the California location, and if it happened after 1993, OP could have claimed up to 12 weeks of protected leave under CFRA (the California Family Rights Act). Some other states have similar legal protections, some don't. Nationwide there is FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), but it applies only to businesses with more than 50 employees. OP should consult an attorney specializing in labor law in his or her state.
@@greymalkin9228 Yep, I went to the Florida one when I was a kid in the '80s.
Story 1: Kudos to the shop assistant for standing up to her, her husband for stamping down on what is evidently a regular pattern of behaviour, and OP and the girl for not bursting out laughing or quoting Shakespeare - I'm sure there must be something by the Bard that would have been appropriate.
That you can be injured in a car accident, but have to work because otherwise you'd have no money, is downright evil.
Welcome to America.
@@Tracy81258 You are welcome to it. I've lived and worked there - as well as living and working in Russia. I was struck by just how many similarities there are, not only in the exceptionalism and the poverty, but also the propaganda.
Title story: If it was not mentioned that the story took place in Australia. I'd still know it was not the USA. If it was. It'd be a REAL short post. OP: "I'm retiring. Karen and Kevin: "We want you to stay" OP. "BLOW ME. I'm retiring" end of story.
8:37 The club should have released a statement that simply said:
The owner of the Chinese restaurant has decided to retire and close. Also, due to excessive operating costs and legal fees, the club is also closing.
Story 4: Bring this story to a good work lawyer. There practices I bet isn’t 100% legal, mainly because the “system” will terminate people even if they are stuck in the hospital and base on the fact this story is in English, and every English primary country I know have laws protecting employees who are gravely injured from termination.
Story 1: There's this new invention! It's called ... *patience!* (Side note: Until today, I believed birthday parties should be a legal right. Now, I'm inclined to argue that they should be the right of everyone who isn't entitled.)
Story 2: Last I checked, forcing someone to work was called "slavery".
Story 4: This is why all bosses should be properly educated that *doctor's orders are paramount.*
Imagine being such a scumbag that you do everything you can to keep someone from retiring
In car wreak story op need to report her boss to Hr n sue him.
I love it when people get their attitude checked!!
Why would a petition matter. I don't WANT to retire, I AM retiring. Goodbye! That's it. I can see it it was true and he was being forced out, but ask him. He wants to retire. Leave him alone. And if you care so much have a party for him for his years of service to the community and have a go fund me. Geez!!
Story 4: clear violations of labor laws here and a potential lawsuit.
Story #2: That guy must have been serving up some good food!!
Story 4. I would have turned the boss into the labor board, let him fire me and gone on unemployment letting them know the real situation. They are very fair and OP would be granted unemployment benefits for a certain amount of time. In that time OP could be able to heal better and also use that time to research and find new employment.
I totally loved that last story!
Good set of stories!
The only thing missing from the “Chinese restaurant” story is -
in the town where this happened, there is ANOTHER fully functioning CHINESE RESTAURANT.
Story 3: Boss was born on 2nd base and thought he hit a double.
You would be surprised how many people think retail stores are a damn charity.
Cue all the stores going out of business due to massive shoplifting.
I do agree that the increase of rent in story 2 is annoying.
Story 4 has to be fake. Pretty sure that's a OSHA violation to not accommodate for injured or disabled workers. Definitely feels like a slamdunk lawsuit on that company. 🤦♂️
Story 1: That relationship is kinda creepy. She is not his wife but his child.
Story 4: The boss deserved a Luigi response.
Story 2: He's done working, and wants to enjoy his life! Let the man be!
Story #1: I wouldn't cancel the party. I would still have it and give her a beautifully wrapped present of divorce papers!!
Restaurant should reopen and start serving the most horrendous food known to man. That should make the Karens back off.
And destroy the old man's reputation? Cute idea, but no.

Story 2: Why go to that much trouble? There are surely other perfectly good restaurants in town.
Story 2: So Big Kevin & Mega Karen thought that they could force someone into being their own personal slave and it didn't work out well for them. Who'da thunk it?
Story 4: OP should have asked the boss "Are you refusing to comply with the doctor's orders?" The answer would get OP a chair or a Ferrari depending on being a No or a Yes.
This would be a good response...
DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?
I have absolutely no idea. You are just a customer here like everyone else.

That's wonderful. He always seems to have so many new friends who come in every week.
S1: Why is he still married to this adult five year old…? If he’s that used to her annoying complaints and threats, he should’ve left her high and dry.
This is gonna be random, but I like how you still have the winter background with Santa flying across the moon. I always hate it when Christmas goes by way too fast…
Story 1: Karen is clearly too young to have left her parents.
1st Story: As the lady was leaving OP should've said out loud "Can you believe the nerve of some people?" 😂
Unfortunately that is the case. Places can ignore doctor's notes. The only way they can't is if you actually have a union because most unions protect against that kind of thing. I feel like it should be a federal law. It's a doctor says it. It's law. If you don't like it, you're fired. Go
It is federal law. And this is how they can get away with it because people like you are completely unaware of basic workers right.
@aduckofsomesort actually, I was just unaware of that specific law, but regardless you do realize that state law can vary from federal law. Like for example, even though federal law states that you're supposed to get a lunch, you know Ohio. It's not required for you to get one now every business I've ever worked for gives lunches but it's not required
@@zen4realfightman426 if federal law gives an employee more protections that is the law that applies. If a state law gives more protections to an employee that is the law that applies.
Story 1 - I can't imagine the marriage B woman and her husband have. Ugh.
One boss cannot tell you what you can or can’t do at a second job. I had one try that shit ALL the time when I worked at Walmart. I would never work there again. Tried to get me to stay late when I had to get to the second job, and told me that I couldn’t work the second job AT ALL when I was on light duty because of an injury from Walmart. 🙄🙄
Oh man. There was a nice Chinese take out place near me. Like within walking distance. And yes it's considered American Chinese food but still delicious. One day it was just gone. As in closed.

Maybe that's why my boss still cling on maintaining a single copier in our office .. for the just in case scenario.
edit.
for price comparison,
Epson ink tank cost $20 to fill and it can print 4 reams of paper.

I bet nobody in Story 2 ever even tipped in the 30 years of staying open
Story 1: Am I the only one who felt like that was actually two people publicly playing out their kink?
Yeah. This sounds like a ‘thing’.
Infantilism is a thing.

So what the boss is really saying is yes, he would like to open himself up to a lawsuit. 🤷
Thanks for the video ❤🐿️
Story 1: Go Amazing Husband! (Maybe she’ll eventually mature enough to not lose him,)
Story 2, even if the whole country agreed signed the petition, its still not legally binding, the restaurant owner had every right to shutdown his restaurant especially since his reason was he wanted to retire, all that energy was wasted for nothing
Story 2: Judging by the outcry, I don't think even death would've been enough to let the poor guy retire without being harassed.
On the restaurant retirement, the protesters probably wouldn't have even been satisfied for the owner to work until he died. They'd probably start looking for someone to petition to bring him back to life, for the sole purpose of running the restaurant!
Story 3: i would not be able to resist the urge to message the old EB and make fun of him for completely failing at life
With Story 3, all I will say is this: If bathroom breaks are timed, it can be a result of employees ducking out for a 'bathroom break' to hide from work.
State level rights do not Trump federal rights that give employees more protections
Story 4: i wouldn't quit, instead I'D get workers comp through the whistle blowers, first to the labor board and tell them that our boss forced an employee who went through a disaster, to stand with no saport, going against a doctor's note, second to the ADA for the same thing, and third to the media
