The Outer banks has really changed over the years and I can’t believe how many condo’s and home were built up the beaches. I was Navy stationed at Camp Lajeune in the early 70’s and we used to take the south ferry up to Ocracoke fairly often. We didn’t go up northern Island very often but I remember it being nostalgic with older cabins and homes. Even Kitty Hawk was very quiet and peaceful back then, the summer at the Outerbanks is just a zoo now, your lucky going early. We used to take our VW’s and run up and down the beach looking for places to fish or snorkel for sea shells. Ocracoke is also know as Blackbeards Island and it is said his treasure is still somewhere on the island. Also, scientists back then (in the 70’s) said the Outerbanks would be gone by the year 2000 due to erosion and rising sea levels, I guess they were wrong:)
It really surprised us when we driving in just how developed and touristy the Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head areas were, definitely not what we were expecting. But, that area has a lot to offer and with a quick drive south you're in the Hatteras Nat'l Seashore surrounded by sand dunes and beaches. That's kind of appealing as OBX offers you the best of both worlds. How cool about Blackbeards treasure, although as small as Ocracoke is it's hard to believe it hasn't been found by now if it's really there. I'm glad the scientists were wrong, it's a great place to visit.
The Outer Banks is my favorite place ever. I spend around a month or so thru the summer there. This was an awesome video. It was great seeing all my favorite places. I will definitely be watching this video again a few times to get me thru the long winter.
I really enjoyed watching your video for the first time! The quality is great and I really can't get enough of your wife's infectious smile and enthusiasm. You guys really have fun. I grew up surfing the beaches from Kitty Hawk to Hatteras and as I grew older started beach fishing with my Bronco. My wife, children and I have camped at all the sites up and down the Outer Banks and this video brought back fond memories. I have subscribed and will be watching for more fun along your journey's.
20 years ago I was driving truck and got a load to Nags Head I got the feeling that it was a very special fun place and have always wanted to go back but I live on the west coast so it's not easy I just retired so now I'm putting it on my bucket list thanks great video oil bag mark
Thanks for the tour of Ocracoke. We were in the Outer Banks in Nov of 2013. We didn't get to Ocracoke but we did Hatteras, Bodie (watch out for snakes) and Corolla. The lighthouse in Corolla is really beautiful. You could have taken your 4 wheel drive out on the beach there and maybe seen the wild horses of Corolla Beach. I would love to go back and camp the Outer Banks.
You're very welcome! I saw the many signs for snakes in the fields at Bodie, it's apparently a very serious threat 😳We look forward to returning one day and exploring the areas we missed on this visit, thank you for the suggestions 👍😊
Used to live in Buxton, woke up every morning and walk out my door and see the sunrise ant the Hatteras lighthouse... Best BEQ in any military base in the world! Then assigned to Ocracoke... 4 years of fun
We've been to the Outer Banks about 3-4 times and love each time. Yes, Duck Donuts are great!! Wild Horse Tour was another great thing we did. Take the Tour because it lets you see them without worrying about driving. On the drive out from Outer Banks is Dennis Anderson's Grave Digger Shop. I know TJ would like that. My wife reminded me about Rodanthe and the house from the Movie. Neat story about that.
I'm a fairly new subscriber....working through some uploads over time, however your content is awesome. Thank you...I know it's a huge job hauling around camera gear, editing, etc., but I really appreciate all you're doing !!
Also, at the upper end, during the summer is the outdoor drama “The Lost Colony”. A great trip at the southern end is the ferry to Harker’s Island or over to see the wild horses. We love the OBX!
Thank you, we're happy to hear you enjoyed the music selection. Believe it or not, finding the perfect music is extremely time-consuming! The donuts were amazing, highly recommend the maple bacon!!
Hey Bri, TJ and the kiddos, love the channel. You visited a bucket list location-Kitty Hawk, NC. I served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 as part of the flight deck fueling crew in the 80’s. Go Grapes!
What a great video! We're planning a 4th of July vacation down there and probably staying at a KOA on the west side of the Outterbanks. Plan on tugging our new 5th wheel down all the way from NWPA area, so fingers crossed it makes the trip without issues lol
Excellent video. Great job. Matter of fact I have enjoyed all your videos I have come across here just recently. Just wanted to let you know that Ocracoke is my most favorite spot in the world. I travel most of it but Ocracoke is my favorite. I went there when I was 8 years old and there was not much to the Village down there by the Silver Lake. You had a shot of one peer down there which was across the street from where we used to stay. That place is long gone and has become something else. Thank you for bringing back great memories. Keep up the great work and be safe.
OK, just came across your channel and I love it! We are not full time RV'ers but full time retired. This past year we did two month long trips but with Covid going on that was the extent of our travels. We have quite a few trips planned this year and the Outer Banks just made my list. Thanks for that.
Great Video as always. Glad you enjoyed another part of our beautiful state. The natural beauty and basically undeveloped coast line makes for a very laid back adventure. Safe travels.
We appreciate that, Don! NC is a special state with so much to offer, we always enjoy our time there whether it be on the coast or in the mountains. Thank you for sharing it with us!!
Great video work! The Outer Banks is our favorite place to vacation. We just bought an RV and we're wondering about camping there. Thank you for your video!
We go to OBX yearly - it's my spirit home. We've stayed at the Oregon Inlet and the Frisco national campgrounds but prefer Sands of Time in Avon. It's not on the ocean, but it quiet with full hookups. I really want to stay on Ocracoke Island at least once. Really have to watch the weather while there.
Yay! Welcome to my home town 😊 I grew up right behind the Wright Brothers Memorial. You're so right about there not being much to do! I'm glad you enjoyed your time there though. Ocracoke is a favorite of mine :)
Thank you, Grace Ashlynn!! And thank you for your help on a few of the comments, I may need to hire you 😉Pretty sweet place to grow up!! Ocracoke was perhaps my favorite part of the visit, it has a good vibe.
We are soooo glad you enjoyed the N.C. OBX! We’re hoping you were able to work your way down Hwy 12 to other points of interest. If you missed Manteo and Wanchese, you’ll have to come back. Then, there’s Beaufort, Harker’s Island, Cape Lookout and more. Wilmington and Southport are amazing too. Great vlog! We’re hooked on your travels. We are RVers as well and feel fortunate to call NC home from coast to mountains.
Thank you, Chuck!! There's no doubt we'll have to come back! We did check out Manteo (adorable!) but we missed Wanchese and all the other locations mentioned! NC really is a great state, you ARE fortunate to call it home ❤️
Nice video... been there a few dozen times myself. Hope you enjoyed your trip. Love that wait for the boat... did the same thing lol. By the way your dogs are beautiful... I have a Brittany and I love taking him with me everywhere I go. He is such a trooper.
We’re heading down in 26 days. We live in NC 20 minutes west of Charlotte. We stay in Hatteras but take a day or 2 to venture up north. The OBX is a wonderful place. If you ever come back to the Banks, visit way up north near Currituck/Carova and see the wild horses.
We used to go to the outer banks every year, staying on Ocracoke. We were in Hatteras while they were moving the lighthouse. What a feat of engineering! My engineer husband was enthralled. It’s a great destination.
Next time you're there stop at the Orange Blossom Bakery and Cafe for Apple Uglies and catch a sunset at the Haulover Day Use Area to see the sun set over the Pamlico Sound.
Its crazy how much the north end of the beach like kitty hawk and kill devil hills has build up over just the last 30 years. Matter of fact the hill on the west tateway drive in kitty hawk is where the Wright brothers actually first flew. All thats there now is a little plaque and a whole bunch of houses.
Been there done dat! It was great like you so nicely shared. Went to light house at Hatteras. No kite school🤷♂️age limit or at least I’ve got one. Enjoying your travel.
Nice, sounds like you enjoyed your visit!! The hang gliding looked pretty strenuous, I can imagine one works up a sweat running that thing up and down the dunes, and then all that lovely sand sticking... not appealing 😳But it sure did look fun, I imagine that feeling of flying is pretty exhilarating! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 👍😊
OMG!!! Alli about died laughing at TJ’s dance! She said it was awesome!!! Looks like another place we wanna add to our list of places to go. Omg those donuts looked amazing!!! I think I gained a couple pounds just looking at them! LOL.
Haha, he is a nut 😆Tell Alli, not everyone has her moves lol 💃And yes, definitely put OBX on your list, and before coming read through all these comments so you can learn from our apparent mistakes 😳😉(TAKE THE DAMN BEACH ROAD!!!!) lol
Cool!! Been busy here at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, camp hosting for a month so have been out of your loop! Outer Banks has been one of our favorite family places to vacation, and now that we've been full-time RV since January, this was really good to see! We'd love to wind up at Okracoke to camp the national campground there, but no showers may be a problem ... well, for more than 3 days. YOU KNOW HOW IT IS! May have to research to see if Nags Head has a Planet Fitness for that! So, yeah, Okracoke National Park has campgrounds for RVs?
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is on our list when we head into the Dakota's @ July! Ocracoke has 2 RV campgrounds. One in town called Teeter's and the National Park Campground, which is dry camping. Further North Oregan Inlet NP Campground has water electric sites and a dump station across the street. Not as convenient as full hookups, but doable. Thanks for following along and congratulations on full timing.
@@EmbracingDetours Yay! If you arrive at Theodore Roosevelt National Park by July 18, come camp with us at Cottonwood Campground! $14 a night, primative/dry camping but a MAGICAL place! You'll love it! Be great to meet you!
it was great to meet you folks at Oregon Inlet! hope your travelling continues to go well - Bri, your recommendation re: Duck Donuts had us eating bacon/maple donuts before we got off the island!!
Or Native american museum, Carl Bornfriend was a friend to all. I met him on a Sunday morning and repaired his riding mower for him, so he let us in the museum free, and I ended up buying his '75 4x4 army ambulance he used to use to do indian shows for local schools. RIP2019 Carl BornFriend! (Frisco)
Enjoyed, but cape hatteras light was a key point to see. It's 200 ft tall and lot of history, including the move to it's current location. Also the historic Whalehead club and lighthouse. We toured the 21000 square foot house. Get the details online or Wikipedia. Also, your right! If dry camping, Ocracoke state campground is preferred, and if you really want the best experience, tow your jeep and drive out to the beach and just enjoy. Jut my 2 cents!
I watch several RV videos and discovered you today. Awesome video. I have a RPOD and pretty new to rving. Still work. I have done the ferries and outer banks in a car. Look forward to rving there, An awesome rig you have and both of you are so real and down to earth
Yes, we missed it! 😫Thankfully, we had just seen the wild ponies on Assateague Island about a month earlier (ruclips.net/video/VY2XG-gQ2TA/видео.html) 👍😊
we went in april once it was so cold (buxton, the cape point) we ended up leaving when the sun came out it burned you and the wind was so cold it froze you at the same time, we go in october when we go and we never had trouble getting on the ferry to ocrocoke, we seldom waited more than a half hour, feery is supposed to come every half hour and they usually had at least two or three going allthe time so why your wait was so long probably had more to do with not enough ferries or using them to transport construction supply. we seldom had any problems in oct. but I did fine it a bit cool to swim in the pool, the ocean was warmer but every year at least 2 or 3 people drown there due to rip currents,so I am afraid to swim in the ocena unless it is fairly calm. oh yea forgot alos the wait times may have increased due to getting stuck, once we got stuck on a sand bar and it took probably a half hour to get loose with the sand mover boat creating a channel so maybe the sand bars were a problem and the channel boat wasnt able to get there very fast. just a thought.
The trick to enjoying The OBX is avoid the crowds when you’re on the move. Find the wind direction and intensity and plan where you hang out accordingly. Get in the ocean and eat in the seafood restaurants. Slow down, don’t be in a hurry wherever you go. Fish, birdwatch, sightsee and fly a kite.
Say something entertaining 😂🤣 The story of our lives🤪 Absolutely LOVED this video, but I love all your videos! Editing was awesome. Never been to the outer banks and totally want to go now:-) And not just for the donuts!! Okay, maybe that’s a big reason!! Yum 😋 But, those sunsets looked amazing!
The reason for the dump trucks is due to the storm that went through this past year that wiped out part of Hwy 12. As I live on the main land and have used the ferry system to get to the outer banks enter from the southern end from Cedar Island up through the outer banks it takes about 12 hours to make a circle of the area.
luna shyne sparkles my family is heading down in 26 days. We stay right inside Hatteras and it’s my absolute favorite place. No place like Hatteras and the OBX.
Loved the video. It was great to see someone else's visit. (The ferry worker laughing at you wasn't cool.) If you think staying here is expensive, living here is way more expensive. I live on Hatteras Island.
Kitty drop a deuce. I like you guys. I used to travel with my kitties but didn't supply a box, but we didn't go very far with them. Went to box many times but didn't bring them.
Looks like you guys had some beautiful weather 🌞! Us on the other hand have been freezing our bums off😂!! Send some of that sunshine our way would you?!?! Beautiful video BriJay🤗 miss you guys 😉
@themcmillanexpress - We had a couple of sketchy days where we thought we might get blown away, but all in all it really was a great time of year to be there. Now we're glad it didn't work out for us to go in March, I don't know that it would have been as enjoyable if it were colder. We feel for you guys, we hate freezing our bums off!! lol We sent you some sunshine, hope you're enjoying it!! We miss you guys too, can't wait to catch up in a few months 😊
You should have spent another week in the Northern area. You missed Duck and Corolla. Above Corolla, you could have driven onto the beach, all the way to Virginia. 22 miles of beach and wild horses. With your 4x4 you could have gone behind the dunes and see how they live in that area, while the horses roam wild. You must come back
It never fails we miss something awesome 😔We finally had to adopt the mindset that it just gives us something to come back for!! We appreciate the recommendations, we'll be sure to take them for the next time 👍😉
You guys keep me alive when my wife passed. I sure miss guys so much. Please come back
cat doing its business at the beginning was classic rv tv. lol
That is a well trained cat to use the Litter box while driving.
Born and raised there...it’s amazing living there.
Oh I bet it was great living there, I would live there in a split second, love it.
it’s really interesting seeing a tourist perspective of the place i grew up in

SUPERB editing on this one! Well done! Makes it so much more enjoyable to watch.
i love the way the cat got up to do the tinky wink for the camera

We loved it! Thank you 👍😊
Also, at the upper end, during the summer is the outdoor drama “The Lost Colony”. A great trip at the southern end is the ferry to Harker’s Island or over to see the wild horses. We love the OBX!
Great video, and I loved the music when you played the video of wright brothers museum. Those donuts look amazing.
Thank you, we're happy to hear you enjoyed the music selection. Believe it or not, finding the perfect music is extremely time-consuming! The donuts were amazing, highly recommend the maple bacon!!

In Corolla you can drive your tow vehicle out on the beach to look at the wild horses
Yes, we missed it! 😫Thankfully, we had just seen the wild ponies on Assateague Island about a month earlier (ruclips.net/video/VY2XG-gQ2TA/видео.html) 👍😊
Great tour
Sands in Time is a very nice mom & pop CG in Avon. It is in the very middle between the Ocean and the Sound. Next time hit Fishheads bar in Nags Head.
we went in april once it was so cold (buxton, the cape point) we ended up leaving when the sun came out it burned you and the wind was so cold it froze you at the same time, we go in october when we go and we never had trouble getting on the ferry to ocrocoke, we seldom waited more than a half hour, feery is supposed to come every half hour and they usually had at least two or three going allthe time so why your wait was so long probably had more to do with not enough ferries or using them to transport construction supply. we seldom had any problems in oct. but I did fine it a bit cool to swim in the pool, the ocean was warmer but every year at least 2 or 3 people drown there due to rip currents,so I am afraid to swim in the ocena unless it is fairly calm. oh yea forgot alos the wait times may have increased due to getting stuck, once we got stuck on a sand bar and it took probably a half hour to get loose with the sand mover boat creating a channel so maybe the sand bars were a problem and the channel boat wasnt able to get there very fast. just a thought.
Lol great capturing life on the road, ie cat taking a dump as the sewer truck drives by lol , can't stop laughing
Hahahaha 🤣 Hey, what can we say, it's real life!!! 🤷🏻♀️☺️
Say something entertaining 😂🤣
The story of our lives🤪
Absolutely LOVED this video, but I love all your videos! Editing was awesome. Never been to the outer banks and totally want to go now:-) And not just for the donuts!! Okay, maybe that’s a big reason!! Yum 😋 But, those sunsets looked amazing!
I'm always trying to catch him off guard and it paid off this time with his little dance!! 🕺Donuts and beaches, what else do you need?! 😁
Embracing Detours literally nothing!
Don’t forget to come back and visit again 😊
I have a Duck Donuts by me. Now I need to head over there!
The reason for the dump trucks is due to the storm that went through this past year that wiped out part of Hwy 12. As I live on the main land and have used the ferry system to get to the outer banks enter from the southern end from Cedar Island up through the outer banks it takes about 12 hours to make a circle of the area.
oh wow i live here, in manteo. this just popped up in my recommended 😂
remember to use the crosswalks by the beach near the high way, nothing pisses us locals off more than tourists running across the highway 😂
My guy n I so love Hatteras!!..we goin in July..Soo excited!!..love ur video!
luna shyne sparkles my family is heading down in 26 days. We stay right inside Hatteras and it’s my absolute favorite place. No place like Hatteras and the OBX.
How awesome for you both, we hope you have a wonderful time on your trips!! Wishing you both perfect weather, thanks for watching our video 👍😊
Loved the video. It was great to see someone else's visit. (The ferry worker laughing at you wasn't cool.) If you think staying here is expensive, living here is way more expensive. I live on Hatteras Island.
Hey I live at the outer banks its amazing!
Me too, I mile past Avalon pier. Beach road
Me too, Southern Shores.
Point Harbor, but I can see it from here.
Lucky you all to call OBX home. Thank you for sharing it with us for a couple of weeks, we thoroughly enjoyed it 👍😊
Ashton hi , i will come there this summer from Turkey . I need to ask something. How can i reach u ? Do u have e-mail or instagram or snapchat ?
Kitty drop a deuce. I like you guys. I used to travel with my kitties but didn't supply a box, but we didn't go very far with them. Went to box many times but didn't bring them.
My daughter is going to the outer Banks the last week of May and told her to visit Ocracoke island
She's going to have a wonderful time! Ocracoke is a must, just don't dilly dally getting to the ferry!!
Was hoping you would show the campgrounds on Ocracoke. From google maps looks like ther is one in the town and one further north.
thanks for sharing!
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Next time your in VA a must see is Lura Caverns!
Looks like you guys had some beautiful weather 🌞! Us on the other hand have been freezing our bums off😂!! Send some of that sunshine our way would you?!?! Beautiful video BriJay🤗 miss you guys 😉
The McMillan Express I could stand some freezing right about now! Omg summer has hit here! Miss all y’all!
@@AlliChuckAdventures yeah we don't miss that Florida summer heat either 😥! We miss you guys too 🤗
@themcmillanexpress - We had a couple of sketchy days where we thought we might get blown away, but all in all it really was a great time of year to be there.
@allichuck - we should all be chasing 70º! We miss you too, maybe a big trip out west to meet up is in your future??
@@EmbracingDetours ♥️... We got your sunshine care package today,😁🙋🏼♀️🙋🏾♂️
We appreciate the recommendations, we'll be sure to take them for the next time 👍😉
Great video, Thanks
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed 😊
