3:10 hit me so hard. I was 1 of 5 people in a massive IMAX theatre, I knew the movie wasn't for everyone but I didn't really comprehend until the how many people missed this masterpiece completely.
Well. I couldn’t afford IMAX or something equivalent in my country.

I know this one is gonna be a banger too. I saw blade runner 2049 3 times in the theatre. I was blown away by the scale and the audio design. Fantastic movie.
Same here. First time in IMAX and it was mesmerizing. Went to see it again, but Geostorm took over the imax screens. The next two times were just standard theater experiences and it was still great.

This film was an absolute joy to watch on the big screen.
I was lucky enough to not to miss the last screening after 2 months. Some film festival locally had screening of this movie just for two days. Witnessed all the fans skipping their work and enjoyed the screening one last time. Me too, kept my phone on silent and enjoyed every minute of this gold.
I agree! I was lucky to experience it on the big screen. The audio quality was insane! I will never forget the feeling of joy during this occasion.

No Film had ever impacted me like Bladerunner before. I watched The first Bladerunner a day before the sequel was released and both films would be the films that made me want to film something.
I subscribed simply for the fact that he called the vehicle a "spinner" and not a "flying car". Now that's a hardcore Blade Runner fan😂

I saw the first Blade Runner only a week before I went to see 2049. It instantly became my favorite movie and I thought nothing could ever top that. Then a week passed and I saw 2049 and...I witnessed perfection.
That’s great! I watched at a friends house way back in the day after a super bowl but I didn’t remember it so I watched it right before I went to see it and it was amazing. I was able to see the original in theaters in January and it’s amazing
It’s such a beautiful film and I love the contrast of a man who’s not really a “man” yet lives a full human life compared to the girl who is real yet hasnt

there's something special about Blade Runner's world where, like you said, it feels incredibly dense with rich history and feels like its going to continue after the credits and out of frame
but unlike many universes of a similar sort (Star Wars, MCU, blockbuster franchises, etc) I don't have a sense of wanting more or expecting more
there's a certain fufillment that I really think is a testament to the film as a narrative, would I complain if there was more? Probably not, but what we have is so satisfying and complete.

I saw the movie a week and a half after Hurricane Irma in Florida. The movie theater I went to was a luxury theater (bar, leather seats in lobby) had major water damage in the lobby, there were three other people that saw it as well. The lobby was damaged and dusty it really set the mood going in, and continued it coming out. It was incredible.
Never clicked so fast in all my life. I really love this movie. I'm not someone that rewatches a lot of movies but I lost count of how many times I saw both blade runners. The dream like dialogues and atmosphere gets me every time.

When you said the film makes you feel grubby and drenched, I was almost shocked. Like you put in words a feeling I couldn't even describe.
This franchise will hold a place in my heart. The original blade runner I was as a kid around 9ish. It was a Saturday also known as yard work day. It started to rain heavily while we started to work out side. Had to put everything away. We went inside and changed into lazy day close. My dad put the movie in and I asked if I could watch. He allowed me and with rain and thunder outside we watch the original. I was in awe and we had big windows in our house so the rain outside pouring down while the final scene left a imprint in my mind. When the movie came out it came out on my birthday and my dad visiting first time in years. We went to an old fashioned movie theater like old school historical 80s one. We got near the front row bad seats but worth it. I remember praying for this movie to be good. I never cried in so many parts when watching this movie. Both my dad and I loved 2049. We were in awe and feel the love that was put into this film. Heartbreaking it flop but so did the original and like I guess like father like son. I've watch this movie so many times and tear up at the same scenes every time.
Every one of my friends called the film boring or too slow. But for me it's the perfect pace.
Sorry for the rambling.
I feel the serenity of the film comes from the “doomed future”. There’s no rush because there’s no where to go. It’s a world that has accepted its fate.

Before I watched this movie I heard many not very positive reviews so I watched it at home months after premiere with 0 expectations... But it is now one of my favourite movies I ever watched, especially thanks that amazing atmosphere and visuals. That is absolutely stunning and I can watch this movie again any time.
i saw this movie high as balls for the first time in IMAX and it melted my brain. literally.
Blade Runner 2049 is the first movie that made me appreciate cinematography and music scores in films. I barely give attention to those in films but after watching this movie it me made me appreciate movies shot by shot. Deakins became my very first cinematographer, and the soundtrack playlist is my very first movie playlist that I listen to often. I played the scores a lot whenever im driving, and throughout the winter season it’s one of my most played playlist. This movie is one of the best ever, im actually shocked that it didn’t do well.
Went and saw this first at the Cinema with my Wife and then my then I took my Mother who was 70 at the time.
We all loved the film as I've always loved the original. The first film always had a HUGE impact on me when I was young but now I'm older getting close to 50 the impact of this 2nd one took it to a whole new level, the meaning is all the more urgent.
An instant masterpiece.
Saw this twice in theaters because I was so hooked on the world building - I can’t wait to see how he helms Dune

I've always felt that the world of blade runner is a world in which you want to be lost in, but utterely terrified of all at the same time.
I watched this movie the second time because as with the first, I couldn’t quite hear the dialogue well (I don’t know if anyone else had his problem or me) with the captions on, the movie really did feel like a direct sequel that jumped off from the first. It was ethereal and captivating. This is what true craft is. While Vangelis sound track is still is the groundbreaking original and unmatched, Zimmer and Wallfisch used it as an inspiration to elevate and intoxicate with mood and complexity. This movie has got to be one of the most underrated in the last 2 decades.
Great video dude. 2049 painted one of the most interesting depictions of a dying dystopian world I’ve ever seen. Can’t count how many times I’ve rewatched the movie. You got a new subscriber.

I saw this in premiere day with 2 friends of mine and they both disliked it but i knew at that moment when the film ended that it had already become on of my favorite films ever.The next day i went alone and saw it after smoking a joint and oh boy! it was something else man..watching this masterpiece while high in the big screen was a dream

Villeneuve and Nolan are my all time favourites, and having both of their movies in one year, makes 2020 hurt little bit less. Cant wait to see Tenet and Dune !!!!!! I have watched Blade runner 2049 5 times in a cinema, and not to lie probably 6 more times since movie came out. Part for the story part to relive the atmosphere of a movie, and thirst to find some small detail that I didnt notice before. PLUSSSS, I was so happy that Roger Deakins finally got some recognition, not even recognition, he was already top notch cinematographer, but I was happy that he finally got that Oscar that he desever for all movies he worked on, and the list is INSANE!

Best director making movies today. Its funny because I dont pay a ton of attention to stuff like that but after seeing Sicario and BR 2049, I immediately knew there was something incredible about this guys way of viewing the world. He has taken a huge challenge with Dune and I couldnt be happier about this. He took same challenge with BR 2049 and killed it so I can only hope Dune is similar.
If we're talking about a film making you believe a world exist. I'd say John Wick did a good job making it seem like that world exist in our world tbh.

Dennis Villainuayvay nailed it. Rojer Deekings cinematography look pristine on a phone screen with pro-motion smooth frames sports mode enabled.

Thank you for understanding. I really thought I was one of the only people who loves this movie, and it’s exactly for the reasons you’ve illustrated in this video; the music, color grading/lighting, and sheer scale in this masterpiece of cinema is awe-inspiring and horrifying, simultaneously.

Became obsessed with Denis after 2049, watched all his movies after and he really doesn’t have a bad one. Can’t wait for Dune (or at least a trailerrr) and hope he does it like 2049 but BETTER :) excited to see what Denis makes in the future! Great vid btw :)

Define world building.
Blade Runner creates a distinct _feeling._ But it does not create some rich, lore stuffed, universe. The Star Wars sequels fail to delve into the goings on of the galaxy. I.e. they fail on the lore front. But Blade Runner does too. There is little to no lore in blader Runner. It's about individuals, not about the grand scale, though there's a few threads about the way certain things work in the world. But there doesn't need to be deep lore. And anyway you're not even saying it has good lore, I think you're thinking of atmosphere and tone and the details happening in the background. So as we can see this all just depends on definitions.
Star Wars doesn't need the world building that Blader Runner has. Though it would be interesting to see something in that universe that does go in that direction.

Star wars is lore based world building. It's all about backstory and the grand stories of how the galaxy changes. That world building which star wars has mostly concerned itself with is not in blade runner. I'm basically saying star wars doesn't need the type of world building that is in blade runner because blade runner is not about backstories.

Blade Runner 2049 for me was a miracle. This movie reminds me why I love watching movies. In an era where sequels, remakes, or factory made movies without a heart or soul that is shitted out to the public that makes our eyes roll to the back of our heads, as we ask ourselves “who the hell ask for this?”
Where sequels or remakes that doesn’t live up to our expectations or the hype as the original, studios that recycles the same plot and characters that gives us throwbacks or quick bits of the original movie that screams “Hey remember this character, this iconic weapon, or this reference!”
“You thought the bad guy was dead in the last how many movies we made, guess again he’s alive now!”
But Blade Runner 2049 isn’t just your average Hollywood sequel, it is a landmark that (HOLY SHIT) sequels and remakes could be great!
A sequel that improves upon the orginal while staying faithful to its aesthetics, themes and tone. How rare is that!
The film’s steampunk-ish, analog take on the technology of dystopian future feels refreshing. And since we’ve grown used to seeing and imagining all digital tech. It also heavily leans on practical effects than CGI. In which is also great to see because practical affects seems to be a dying genre at this point. And the cinematography from Roger Deakins is literally Eye Candy, you can use any shot from this movie and it’ll look like a beautiful desktop background on your computer.
This movie is a literally Gem and I was disappointed that it bombed at the box office and I can’t wait to see Dennis Villeneuve work on the movie Dune.
I watch this movie roughly every week. I've taken to having it on while I work because of that perfect atmosphere. It's quite excellent for inspiration.

i can't pinpoint what it is that denis villenueve does exactly but he maintains this atmosphere in all of his movies. perhaps the colour pallet? or the constant undercurrent of subtle tension. either way the man is a master. probably the best cinematic experience i've had
I watched twice in theaters on a 100 square both times and once sober.
The first time I had to wait for my cousin to get out of her movie so she could escort me out as from my perspective the hallway went on forever, though I have a very strong sense of self so I didn't panic my phone was useless as I couldn't make out the screen as things were moving and dancing and changing.
Story had a happy ending got home just fine with my minder while I was tripping.. It still brings a tear of humor to her when she saw me so grateful she found me. An the look on my face when she did.
It was my 2nd time to trip. First time in public.
Blade runner 2049 was epic on acid.
Anyway I will never forget the movie on 1P. The whole cinematography and sound just blew me away in a good way.

I saw it twice in theaters. First time I saw it I couldn't believe how good it was
I call it the tone of the movie. The more I rewatch this film, the more I love it. Bought the CD/soundtrack. I saw this in an empty theater and was struck by the fresh take it had as a sequel. It kept all the great things from the original and built off of it/pushed it further asking more sci-fi questions. I love Bautista’s Sapper character and it’s amazing that the intro scene is actually a throwaway idea they had for opening up the original (watch the bonus feature interview of the original). The dam/waterfall scene with the epic song gets me every time. The 3 short films released in connection to this one was a really cool way of ‘hyping’ it up too. I have a feeling, like the first one, 2049 will get more popular over time. Most just weren’t ready/prepared for something like this.
The aspect of 'a warning' is true of 2049 however is not unique to 2049, it is as close to the *purpose* of cyberpunk as there is.
Best sequel of all time. I honestly liked it even better than the first one, easily one of my favorite films of this century.

2049 is a pure masterpiece, every shot is art.
I will admit, I was not familiar with the original Blade Runner until I watched it in my high school film class. I instantly loved the movie, and when i watched 2049, i was blown away. I can safely say that it’s the best sequel to a movie i’ve ever seen. Rather than turning Blade Runner into a cheap action franchise, they made a beautiful and complex film. It’s the art of cinema at its best.

This movie, oh, sorry, the wrong word, this masterpiece just blew off my mind, I didn`t know that movies might be THAT beautiful and perfect with such scenes, and with a mix of the scenario twists and Gosling`s acting, and all this in the cyberpunk world. Totally my most favorite movie of them all!

I saw the original and Blade Runner 2049 a few months ago and both films really impacted me and both are films I will never forget. Blade Runner 2049 is a fantastic continuation of the original.

As a writer a story like this is what I always try to achieve. As a movie director this needs to be your inspiration -

My current favourite movie of all time. Watched it twice in cinema (also pretty much empty both times) My first ever 4K Blu Ray purchase, too.
i regret not watching it in IMAX but still managed to see it in Dolby ATMOS theatre which have better sound system than the local imax. I swear, the whole theatre shakes with the amazing sound design in the movie and the music score is really loud that it might made the speakers explode.

Hands down my favorite movie. The atmosphere and setting are both beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Its a future world you want to immerse yourself into yet one you hope never happens. Never get tired of watching it.
