    I bought this tent (Diamond Brand) a couple of years ago. I love it. Remember it is a two man tent so it will be awkward at times setting it up alone, especially if it’s windy. However, anyone that gets frustrated and says this is difficult is spoiled. Too much instant gratification required nowadays.

      a tent being for two people is no excuse for it requiring two people to set up. That being said, this looks like a fairly good quality tent. There are many well designed tents out there, among them tents for 6,8, even 12 people that a single person can set up. I think luke's rating of 5-6 out of 10 in terms of difficulty is accurate if you consider 10 is something poorly designed/defective and 1 being the slickest of the slick setups. Honestly anything with sleeves instead of clips is going to be a PITA, and there's just not that much reason for it.

    • @eyeofthetiger4184
      @eyeofthetiger4184 2 года назад +2

      @@charliemcdowell5231 G'day Charlie, some great points there mate. Personally' as a 6 footer, a two person rated = 1 + gear IMO.
      I use a Black Wolf Turbo 300, (3 X 3 meter), as a base camp job; takes me around 10-15 mins, chugg'n on a beer, lol.
      In fairness, Luke is focusing predominately on hiking tents.
      I will stand by the sleeves however, I reckon the extra grunt and weight in design is worth the mucking about, especially out the back of a vehicle; sure I wouldn't want to be carrying that a long way over days, different kettle of fish mate. Cheers Duke.

During the winter and two people you definitely stayed warm but did have some moisture issues. I set the tent up once in the rain, after that I joined the bivy club when it was raining.

First set up was like yours with a little learning curve 15-20 minutes. . .after that 5-7 minutes tops. This tent is a great 3 season tent but a tad too warm with the fly in humid summer temps even with the doors open.

    With two people who have sent up the tent it is very quick. Once the main work in done you can split one gets in the inside of the tent ready, unpacking sleeping bags and ground mats. The other finishes stakes or I use military sandbags as tent pegs are useless in the desert. I have been in near hurricane force winds and even needed to dig myself out in the morning during sandstorms. In the summer I use the tent with the fly removed and the doors open with the mesh in place. As long as I break camp at sunrise the ventilation made it a habitable place to sleep is the deep desert away from the bugs. You should also review the repair kit that comes with the military version. It has everything you would need to keep the tent in service. I have a lot of photos with the tents use in the desert in the Middle East I would be happy to share with you.

    I had a Eureka car camping tent with multiple pole sleeves, very frustrating to set up, especially for one person but sturdy when assembled. The Marines deserve an easier to set up tent. We had some Marines on my US Navy ship, there was a friendly rivalry between us, but we didn’t mess with them because they did push ups and we only pushed buttons. They had our backs though!

  • @eyeofthetiger4184
    @eyeofthetiger4184 2 года назад +1

    G'day Luke, assuming it makes it though the test night(s), not bad IMO. I have had at least one tent with those broken sleeves in the past, and yeah bit of a pain, but once up, I feel they do add extra rigidity/stability compared to clips, velcro, loops and the like, simply because there's far more surface area in contact with the poles. Oh yeah, and no issue with small individual connection points failing either, since the load/tension is spread along the sleeves. Fair to say I reckon that's why they do it. Cheers Duke.

    I have the original TC2P and had a problem with the poles hanging up in the sleeves. I rounded the ends with 120 grit emery cloth and also the sharp edge (which was where the sleeves were hanging up) and the problem is mostly gone. I don't like the sleeve thing much either but once the tent is set up the sleeve problem seems trivial. I love my TC2P.

Hope it gets cold. I saved a little more than half buying used, If I knew how nice this was, I would of just bought a new one. I may get another one and sell the one I have. Last time I checked Diamond Brand's site, they were out of stock. Not use to nice equipment, so the poles were no big deal for me. Thanks for your review and all you do.

    Couple observations needing better clarifications.
    A.) This tent has three identical specification, good quality poles. Standardization is an excellent way to go in many respects.
    B.) For the 'FLY' Woodland side up vs. Desert for set-up is certainly the favorable side up 'in terms of how the fly is designed to work optimally and in 3+ seasons. It is a 3+ season tent that can be pushed well into and handle the demands of shoulder seasons. Desert should be optioned contingency-based for dry/mild and reasoning to blend into desert environment. Want to stay weatherproofed at its best go Woodland Camo side up.
    C.) This tent is very easy and straightforward sequencing to set-up --- I'd relate 2 on scale of 1 to 10. The scenarios where folks could be disadvantaged is in unfamiliarity with untested, never used gear... and in high wind conditions necessitating greater attention on set-up/take-down preventing damages, loss, etc.
    D. Eureka civilian models (based on this USA Marine Corp. tent) are much-much better in terms of materials and additional design features. I outfitted with several of the Assault Outfitter II and will relate that these were one of the most reliable, functional, weathertight, high-value to cost, and straightforward simple tents available (unfortunately discontinued). I still have Assault Outfitter 4 tents (still in production) I use mostly in my outfitting rentals for remote destination river rafting float trips. I have yet to have any dissatisfactions for Eureka Assault Outfitter tents of same pedigree. I own one of the Diamond Brand 2-person. Tho' it is sub-par all things considered in regards to Eureka Assault Outfitter series... it is a good, simple, often copied (like North Face version), and storm worthy tent.

    I have used the Diamond brand USMC tent for fifteen years + some. I’ve had no major issues with the tent I do clean my gear after my trips probably the reason it’s in such good shape after the many times I’ve used it. I will probably up grade and give this to my son. I camp in all season but mostly have used this tent in early spring and late fall and through out the winter. I mostly hammock camp in the warmer months or when hiking year around. Love the tent however I will be keeping my eyes 👀 out for the newer version of this MARINE tent.

    One of the many life lessons the Corps taught me is that you'll become proficient at anything to avoid misery. Don't want to sleep in mud? You'll learn to get this up quick fast in a hurry. Uncle Sam's Moving Company isn't looking for luxury, it's looking for durability, something to keep the roaches, wind and rain off, and just heavy enough to give that lower back a workout.

    I usually assemble the poles as I push into the sleeves that way it buts less stress on the ferules where my boy scouts fracture the fiberglass poles and I have to cut and shorten that section of pole and remove the 1/2 in section of pole without cutting the elastic cord inside. A process I became proficient at after many setups in the dark with our younger scouts. the poles are not strong enough to support their own weight like a fishing rod.. with 18 ft of pole dangling out in space. they learned.

    I’d have to be mighty impressed with a tent to buy one with sleeves for 3 season use. Though I guess a 4 season one would be better with them.

    It is a two man tent. So setting it up would be easier. Although the pole problem does drive me crazy.

    wish you would have shown setting up the stand alone fly; I found it to be overly confusing and also a nightmare.

    Is there a tent for two people
    Dark inside, under $100? Or can Coleman Sundome Tent turn two people into opaque from the inside??

    Not sure what the hell that thing is but it of my 11 years in the military, we never had nothing like this. Sleeping bags and dirt. If it rains, add your outer shell and grab a Pancho.

    Regarding the scale of difficulty, 1 for super simple 10 for very difficult. Here is my honest question: has Luke ever set up a tent that scores 10 or almost 10? I genuinely want to learn just how difficult a tent has to be to score a 10 on Luke's scale.

    It's a two person tent so solo set up is difficult but with two people not so much...

    The longer the poles the harder it is to get the poles inserted. Clip-on would be better.

    Looks like a typical mil-spec tent. The tent appears to have been designed to meet all of the required criteria such as size, structure, weatherproofness, etc, with no regard for setup difficulty or time criteria.

    Going to ask you again because you didn't answer last time. Not meant to be a put down or anything like that but, I'm wondering just how tall you are? It makes a big difference to people like me because so many times you mention how roomy a tent may be. I'm about 6' 2" and 240 #, you appear to be on the shorter side and maybe 150#

      I have this tent, I'm 6ft2 190lb and I consider this a roomy tent. Easy fit 2 men. As 1man it's a palace.

    The setup isnt great but the real killer would appear to be airflow... or a lack of any airflow. Im glad I got my Litefighter tents when they were cheap.
