I know this video is over 4 years old, but I just visited Bangkok over New Years and I got a True sim card for my visit. It worked great, and the price was really good.
Phil, Thanks for this. Going back to Thailand next year, with an iPhone 6, so I've got True Move, listed in my things to get on arrival. Love your videos. They're timeless.
Awesome tips on navigating BKK airport: Getting your SIM card and getting to ground transportation. Yes, I can confirm that getting off the airport link train at Phaya Thai station can be a pain as there is only one small elevator and no escalator to use, so your only option is usually taking the stairs down to the BTS station.
taxis? Why rush things? take an AC bus to Pattaya. Or take the rail link to the BTS station and you can take BTS all over town. Yes taxis come in handy but be warned catching taxis at the departures can be dangerous
The money exchange at the airport is appaling - as a previous expat working in China I made an annual trip with mates to Thailand every CNY (Chinese New Year) , the average exchange rate of the RMB/Chinese Yuan to Baht was RMB 1: Baht4.8-5.2 for small currency exchange in Bangkok/Pattaya and ATMs while at the airport the rate was RMB 1 : Baht 3.5. I would only change as much loose cash as you need for taxi and some beers etc and a little bit of extra spending money and then use ATMs in large denominations for everything else or take home currency and seek out the currency exchange in themain cities.
about the micro sims for iphone and samsung galaxy S3+ : they cut it for you. i always use AIS. They have good 3g packages and you get 3g internet connection in the MRT (subway), what i frequently use. So very handy.
not exactly on the topic of phones...however, are the luggage carts at the arrival area free or do you need a handful of change to get one? Great info on the vid by the way.
hi Phil Gr8 video's...Very informative for the first time traveler. just a Q on the Toyota Corolla Airport Taxi's.. Do they carry three Adults with luggage on regular fare. BTW i have subscribed :) .
Phil nice video. next time instead of paying over the odds for your taxi at the tourist point go upstairs to departures and jump straight into one that has just dropped off. save your 50/100 Bhat. also I recently got a dtac all you can eat data sim for 600 Bhat that lasted month. This was at Ekammai mall dtac.
hey Phil thanx for the info. on travel to Bangkok Thailand. which is the best and cheap hotel to stay in Sukhumvit ? please give some hotels' names that u stayed. thanx alots
If you're coming from the US, you can grab the Tourist SIM with 1 day shipping on Amazon so you can give your number to your friends before you arrive. www.amazon.com/dp/B00FRBYADK/
Is it better to get a SIM card or Pocket Wifi (like in Japan) for Bangkok? Or, is Pocket Wifi even commonly used/recommended for BKK? Going there this winter for the first time.
i also recommend you make time to go downstairs to the left and eat at the food court there. Decent food, always busy, good prices. many airport workers, flight attendants eat there. Decompress while waiting for your bus or heading on. Lots of pretty ladies to see
Totally wrong about changing money, don't do it inside the airport building, go down to ARL station and you should find on the left much better rates. It was 6% difference on £s.
dacow95 Thanks for subscribing to my Channels, sorry I haven't done a new video in a long time, my main phone is a Lumia 1020 as it has the best camera of any phone ( see pics at instagram.com/philinbangkok) and a Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 (bought in Bangkok) as I am playing around with mobile apps
Don't take the mafia-taxi on 1st floor. Go to the 4th floor and grab a taxi outside the departure area, They normally don't scam or harass you. All the seasoned travelers to Bangkok use the taxis outside the 4th floor, while the newbies and retarded get scammed and ripped off by the mafia-taxi at the 1st floor.
Bullshit, always used the ones on 1st floor, never had a problem. I tell em where to go, the price is set right there and of we go. Never been scammed. What you should avoid is people asking 'Taxi?', cause those are usually illegal taxi's trying to rip you off. The ones showed in this video are honest and safe.
Completely agree Svein Arne Grønnevik. Use the taxis who just unloaded passengers on the 4th level. They will take you back to the city at a good price. But bargain and walk off if the price is NOT agreeable.
yes they have those but less selection of numbers to choose from as you cant cut a normal sim down to micro - thank Apple for being cool and hip and making sim cards smaller cause they cant design a phone properly, arent you iPhone users bored of that stale sterile iOS oh yeah if your phone is locked to a carrier and a iPhone user you are screwed if from N.America as mega $ to unlock it here but then again iPhone users seem to have the money to spend on their phones LOL

Great video! Do you have to adjust the APN settings on an iPhone from USA or does that information automatically populate??
good video bro, I have done a lot of them on Bangkok, but I never did one on the phones LOL

You can get an AIS 4G one month card from the arrivals floor which is the same price as outside. I always get that.

Hi Phil, do they also sell unlocked cell phone along with the sim card at the BKK Airport?
Will they unlock it for you at the airport?
Is it better to get a SIM card or Pocket Wifi (like in Japan) for Bangkok? Or, is Pocket Wifi even commonly used/recommended for BKK? Going there this winter for the first time.
Hi Phill. Very interesting. Thank you. Have you taken a taxi from the 4th floor. What is the cost to sukivimint area.
I paid 300THB.
Informative. The video quality could have been better :(
i also recommend you make time to go downstairs to the left and eat at the food court there. Decent food, always busy, good prices. many airport workers, flight attendants eat there. Decompress while waiting for your bus or heading on. Lots of pretty ladies to see
I was told you can't take cases in the food court.
You need to go back and make an update Phil.
I'm assuming that they'll have micro-sim now available ?
yep
Withdraw money at the K Bank ATM kiosk using card.

Instead of topping up at 7 11 cant i top up there?
If you want to join the queue.
I mis Thailand and I mis my ex gf bum.. She was such warm hearted person but I just ignored her and now I regret about it.
Go get her back.
Be aware that the Thai government can track the sims that you get at the airport...
There is always a conspiracy theory person that pops up on every thread, whatever the subject, go get lost Harold.
@@grahamjohnson4702 No conspiracy theory. True. Use VPN in Bangkok

Not really true anymore.

Why does many hotels and guesthouses tell their guests to take the ones on the 4th floor...and many seasoned travellers do so?
man thats genious why didnt i think of that:) how much they cost when atop. i always wondered why its 500 baht to go to airport and 900 to city!
Completely agree Svein Arne Grønnevik. Use the taxis who just unloaded passengers on the 4th level. They will take you back to the city at a good price. But bargain and walk off if the price is NOT agreeable.
Just like lord of the rings. All walking and not much else
