- People wanted to see me make some portraits with my RB67 500mm f/8 Sekor C lens, so I made some!

I used Kodak Portra 400 and Ilford Hp5 for the portraits, the images at the end of the video were shot on Fuji Provia 100f.
You'll likely notice that the focus is slightly off on the portraits, the depth of field is razor thin with this lens especially when shooting wide open (which I did for all the portraits) so there's some blurriness going on. (We'll just say it's a creative effect)
First two songs Prod. Lim0
Last song Prod. Texaco
Galileo called and he wants his telescope back.
Ahahahaha I need to get a better tripod so I can take some non-blurry pictures of stars!
Hahahahaha!!!It is quite heavy!!!
@@willysheepskin The stars move (earth's rotation) :)
Greatest rock pool photographer on the planet
Gonna print this comment and hang it on me wall so I have something to look at in tough times ahaha
African William is cooler than Belgium/New jersey William
Noiceee!
Ahah different strokes for different folks hey! African William does have a nice ring to it though!
Beautiful model, very nice photos… but what a lense !!!
The one underwater is soooo amaaaazing!!!!
Thank you so much! It was my favorite too!
Shooting portraits on a lens that big would scare the piss out of me - awesome shots!
I wasn't too scared this time, but I sure did miss focus a couple times in retrospect, so next time I shall likely be more scared haha. Thank you!
This is easily the best photo content on youtube, awesome pictures every single video! Thanks for the inspiration Will!
Ah thanks so much! I hope to keep the strong picture streak going haha!
The black and whites ones were stellar
Cheers man! Looking forward to printing them
I like seeing your content get well-deserved recognition on r/analog. The shot of her underwater with her eyes open is something remarkable!
Thanks Tanner! That shot received a bunch of complaints about toes being cropped lmao so tomorrow’s video is going to be addressing that and remaking a shot like it but including toes ahahahah
10/10 man, nothing less for these photo sets!
Thanks so much Dylan! I'm really enjoying the light on cloudy days lately it seems to work nicely with the portra
I never comment, but my dude, your channel is amazing! Keep up the great work and the amazing photos :)
Honored to receive a comment then Pierre! Thank you so much for the kind words, I shall endeavor to continue haha!
Amazing, the details are unbelievable
Lots of climbing! 😀 Very nice shots!
Thank you! More climbing yet to come hopefully haha!
I love using telephoto lenses for portraits! They're awesome for isolating the subject
Such a cool look, but also such a struggle to nail focus with this lens! The grey day made the viewfinder quite dim as well so sharpness ended up being an optional extra haha
That lens was without a doubt the biggest one I have ever seen. I had a 500mm for my Hasselblad years ago but now the largest lens I have is the 250mm for my RB67.
The 250mm is actually my ideal fashion lens! Especially because you can chuck a 2x adapter on it and have a 500mm that is actually sharper and smaller than the actual 500mm - at least that's what I found with my limited testing. I didn't really look into whether it distorts in the corners, but 250mm for the win!
Wow these shots are so dope. Massive posing inspo energy !!
Thanks Owen! It's actually super tricky working out poses that will work with that lens because its super limited in terms of the angles you can hit haha, shall have to do a fashion thing at some point and come up with some super interesting poses for ya!
These photos are crazy cool!
Thanks Karl! This was a very lovely photo day, I hope to have more like it going forward!
That was so enjoyable!!! The underwater colour one is out of this world. 💕.
Thank you! I think that was my favorite one too!
Awesome very vintage shots! Beautiful model!
Glad to see you went on a bit of a video journey here haha, that lens definitely has a vintage look!
Excellent episode
And what a goddess!
Regards from Tunisia
Many thanks, Vic is wonderful indeed! So rad that you're seeing this from Tunisia haha!
@@willysheepskin you are welcome
I discovered your channel recently
And I love it
Perfect photos, enjoyed all of them
Thanks so much Mehran!
Great to see you using the 500mm for closer work. The pictures look really good and you had a great model. Hopefully you found that at this range rather than infinity you were able to exploit the real quality of this lens! Not sure your tripod is really up to the job though. It took me some time to realise that to fully exploit the lens I needed something really hefty - plenty of old cheap heavies on e-bay!
Ah glad to hear from you again Gareth! Yes it definitely is much better suited to photographing subjects that aren't distant landscapes haha! You're 100% correct on the tripod front too, I'm going to try pick up a super solid one sometime soon - got some disappointing shots of a blood moon the other day trying to run this setup with a 2x adapter. I think the key will be sorting a proper tripod and a stable bracket so that everything sits dead still!
Thanks for your comment! I had a huge Manfrotto I picked up cheaply- all aluminium and 2 section legs with a ball mounting so I did not need to use a head most of the time. So stable that the police used them for mounting speed cameras. I now have a couple of biggies: Benbo 2 which is huge and steady but the centre (?) column is useless as it rings like a bell. Mostly I use a wooden Ries J100 from Seattle which I was very lucky to get used in the UK as they are few and far between and to import a new on is pricey. Superbly solid and better made than a Gitzo (!) Hand made in house. Older French made Aluminium Gitzos can be very cheap and reliable apart from the truly huge (8t ft) ones which are rare and expensive. I have stuck solidly with my now aging Manfrotto 410 head which is very steady and manageably light - Hope this helps.@@willysheepskin T
@@garethwilliams976 That helps loads! I'll keep an eye out for the Manfrotto head and a similar kind of solid base in the local market!
This is one of my favorite videos of yours. Love the funky music, love the location, the model is easy on the eyes, the photos you made we gorgeous. I think the thing that I enjoy the MOST is that somehow, I feel as if I was there observing or lending a helping hand. I'm just in love with the vibes here.
Nice shots! Cool to challenge yourself with an unusual lens. The surfing shots are super interesting too. The movement of the waves is epic.
Cheers Sid! I almost wished the lens was longer for those surf shots, might have to give that a go again with a 2x adapter haha
Is that a lens or you just happy to see me. lol awesome portrait.
ahaha VERY happy I reckon! Thanks!
Digging the vibes. Awesome photos brother 🤙🏻
Thanks Jake! All about the vibes haha!
Dang too good too be true man!!! Keep it up your vids was so good man 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks dude! Shall keep em coming!
straight to the point with the pictures. love it william, another hit
Thanks my dude! Glad to see you stop by again haha!
Another amazing video, and even better photos! I love your directing voice. I have such a hard time directing my subjects when I'm shooting portraits, I think next time I'll try the ~Sheepskin Voice~
Thanks Filipp! I'm glad to hear I have a directing voice haha, someone told me I sound like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo yesterday it was hilarious
You talking to yourself is hilarious
I never really noticed the amount of time I seem to spend doing that before I started recording myself ahah, people must think I'm nuts
Loving the content so far. Great job Big Willy Style
Cheers Kenneth! Gotta put Big Willy Style on a jacket ahahah
I always love your videos and images, man! Your model is quite lovely and you did a fantastic job of capturing her! Can't wait for more videos. Cheers from Chicago!
Thanks so much Christopher! Vicky is one of my oldest friends, she's wonderful! Honored to have someone from Chicago watch stuff haha!
Will, I definitely need to get my hands on this lens because it’s honestly insane. Also great selection of photos ❤️
Would be rad to have another member of the 500mm club haha! Beware, it is super specific use and a big mission to set up though
incredible photos
Extend the bellows so that they are at their maximum length. Rotate the back. LOL! I was half expecting you to continue one with about 25 more steps as it seems the RB67 never runs out of things to do. It's like a boat....there's always something to do.
Haha I grew up on boats! My dad would love that comparison, and it sure is accurate. Maybe I should just narrate all the steps I go through in my head while shooting it for jokes sometime
its so interesting seeing the fauna of different places. like here on the east coast of the US I would never cross paths with a sea anemone yet you have some a couple hours from where you live. I really enjoyed the portraits you made WIlliam, you're gonna make the price of that 500mm go up 😂 (as if it wasn't already hard to find)
There are stacks of them out here man! Even at the beaches like 10 mins from me they cover the rocks, actually keen to try take a nice underwater photo of one sometime, just need to source a RB67 waterproof housing loool. Glad you liked the photos, I wish anyone buying this lens the best of luck, and hope they know a good chiropractor :/
@@willysheepskin 😂😂😭
I dig it. Doesn't hurt that the model is also beautiful haha
Nice video man. Impressed with the quality of your scans. How do you scan the negatives?
Now and then I get a sudden, strong urge to buy the 500mm for my RZ, and then I go and watch this video. It quenches my thirst for a while.
shitttt! real nice man
Wildlife photography next!! Scare some lions!
Ahahah they'd probably think I was trying to hunt them with that darned thing!
@@willysheepskin Fair point.
mate I know I am a year late but these were all straight bangers! Not a single shot that wasnt amazing!
Willy got the cannon out #sheepsquad
Bang bang!
Gotta make this a trending hashtag #sheepsquad
#sheepsquad 😂😂😂💕
Amazing video !! Do you use Russian camera ?(kiev 88 etc )
I've actually never tried them, but hope to do so in the future!
Classic clip m8, thanks bruv
This looks actually fire man hahaha.
Very unpractical to shoot but 100% worth it!
Thanks dude! Still don't think I'm getting the maximum potential out of it yet, but things are definitely coming along haha!
my favourite youtuber
Awesome video man, makes me want to get the 500mm for my Hassy!
Cheers Jack! I back that idea haha, I think someone spoke about their 500mm hassy lens in the comments here someplace - can't remember if the verdict was good or bad but might be worth tracking down if you're looking for a user opinion haha! - might also have been in the comments on my original 500mm video though
@@willysheepskin Awesome thanks man! I'll see if I can find it!
The detail on this lens it's simply absurd
It really can shine hey! Just super tricky nailing focus when it's fully extended because the depth of field is sooo shallow
This was noice
You're noice! B-)
Noiceee video 🤙🏾
Thank you!
You need a smaller tripod, its overkill for that setup!
Ahah you're right, I reckon I'll pick up a gorillapod thing next that should suit it nicely!
@@willysheepskin I mean, you flexing with that beefy one. But its ok
Ok now I need to watch it again but this time with the sound off on this one and ''Aquatic Ambiance - Donkey Kong Country'' on another tab.
Dang I went and listened to it and reckon you've got the right idea there
I went to listen .. and that really works too!
This... is my vibe now. Thank you. The 10hours version is now in my study playlist as well.
@@matejkyjovsky4991 I am glad that you liked it!
Hey will! Did you use a light meter for these pictures? If so which one?
SO GOOD. Interested to learn more about how you are scanning these. Are you doing dev/scan in house or sending to a lab? Looks fantastic!
Thanks Chase! I outsource dev to a local lab but scan everything myself on an Imacon 343!
You need to use a much more solid tripod when shooting with large cameras like the RB67 especially with big lenses like the 500mm...it’s a miracle that your flimsy tripod didn’t collapse under all that weight!
Nice like your work
Thank you!
btw why did u use this instead of 250 + 2xadapter.. u said it was better then 500mm lole
and faster then this lens which is f8
@@Mac__Tonight People asked that I use this lens for portraits so I gave it a go haha! If I were just going out to make photos for myself I would definitely use the 250 + 2x, much nicer combo, but since people wanted to see this sort of thing from the rarer 500mm I gave that a go!
how did u meter? looked a bit dark too what shutter speed u used
The exposures were alright but I might not have brought the highlights up enough when scanning! Metered incident light, but also didn't compensate for loss of exposure through the 500mm with the negative film. (I did compensate with the slide film at the end though)
😍😍😍
We gotta make someting soon again
How did you meter ?
Sea anemone!
Sea amenonemitie
wich film you use?
I used Portra 400 for the color stuff in this video, and Ilford hp5 for the black and white! The shots at the very end are fuji Provia slide film though
First like first comment 💖
NICE
My own opinion but I woulda used the SekorZ180 and not lugged that Battle Baton and freed up no needing a tripod
Good lord the hips
William, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not, either here or somewhere else (Reddit for example) but you shouldn't have cropped the toes man... I mean come on! Toes are life.
Ahahah legend! It changed my life when I learnt to breathe through my nose and not my toes for sure!
Hot women lying around in ponds distributing photographs is no basis for a system of government, but it’s a start.
