Never explained about the lamp rod where the cord runs through and the nut that holds this rod securely. This is my problem with this very old ceramic lamp that I had to replace the socket on. 0:01

Threaded rod was the key, thanks. I thought the wire would just twist around.

How do I fix a lamp shade that is not straight? It’s not wobbly but it just isn’t sitting flat

Leave it slightly loose. Level with a shim of aluminum foil. Retighten.

Your solution didn’t help me… it makes it worse. For other people reading this…Just do this ….Take off the shade to expose the socket, then look for a small setscrew in the bottom of the socket`s base. You will notice that this socket base screws onto the top of a small-diameter threaded pipe, so you can tighten it back down by turning the base of the socket clockwise while holding the lamp base steady. Before you do this make sure the setscrew is loose (it probably already is-but if it isn`t, loosen it). If the threaded pipe keeps turning when you try to tighten the socket base by turning it, look under the base of the lamp (or under the felt that covers the bottom of the base) for a nut. Hold this nut with pliers to keep it from turning while you tighten the socket. After the socket base is tight, retighten the setscrew.

This comment helped me. I didn't actually need to deal with the setscrew (I was nervous about poking around inside the socket, so this was good news). I was able to pull away the felt at the base of the lamp to expose the cord and the nut, then hold the nut in place with one hand while turning the lamp with the other hand. I also found that the cord had become wrapped around itself, so I was able to unravel it by twisting it in the opposite direction.

Go to WoodPrix if you'd like to build it yourself.
