  • Aviation Week slideshow illustrating how using linear friction welding (LFW) to produce near net-shape preforms, or tailored blanks, can cut the material waste and machining time when making complex aircraft parts from expensive aerospace alloys. LFW is used to join simple shapes, precut by waterjet, to approximate the final shape of the part.
