Imagine - just imagine if schools got children to try to create such movements and for them to then show the working versions - the effect on MANY would be inspiring. Truly inspiring. I was lucky to attend a remarkable secondary modern school in Cardiff where the Maths teacher arranged for our class at age 16 I think, to attend weekly lessons in computer programming at a nearby college. We got 'O' levels in programming, tested in Basic AND assembler language via punched card programs entered into the council mainframe computer. This was the early to mid 1970s! This was inspirational to a number of us - I worked for IBM for 12 years, one colleague ended up as head of IT for the John Lewis partnership, another head of IT for Husky Oil in Canada.

How to create a classification in order to find a simplest mechanism for a particular problem? Your movements are endless! Showing a new way to articulate forms and movement! Mechanics quasi art! My respect and admiration.
Hello ratatouille ... I've wondered about this same question. I've done some reading about this in the past. My take on this is that there are a certain set of fundamental mechanisms such as sliders and joints and cams and so on that have particular kinematics and degrees of freedom, and that all more complex mechanisms can be built up from connecting these together in various ways. I thought about this some time back when I was trying to understand how cams are designed on compound bows to give a particular force curve when the bow string is drawn and the energy is stored in the limbs of the bow. But this goes beyond just the modelling of movement, which these simulations in the video are showing. The question of how to discover what basic mechanisms are needed, in order to solve some particular problem is probably the most difficult part. This would require an analysis of the desired mechanism and all the degrees of freedom it possesses, and then from this it should be possible to derive the set and connectivity of simpler mechanisms in an arrangement that implements the required kinematics. Having said all this, it should be kept in mind that kinematics is not dynamics, and this is an idealized view of things. More work will be required to take into account things like motors and forces they will impart to implement the kinematics with physical moving parts, which themselves may introduce additional physics into the modelling, such as friction and momentum, which will affect how the mechanical system performs. If anyone knows of good books or web pages that discuss mechanism design independently of any particular CAD program, that wold be appreciated.
Someone knows how to make the same animation of the tape trayectory in solidworks like 12:21?, I want to do something like that but i don´t know how to simulate it. Are tutorials or tips for that?
Is there a way to 'reverse engineer' a movement? Let's say you just show what movement you want to achieve and AI will tell you which principles to use?
