    It’s crazy that this is limited to 16 channels. Seems to have missed the spot a bit. Limit the console UAD2 slots to 16 channels, and still let us have access to all 64 channels in a DAW. Then you’d have had something. All this does is replace the old Live Rack without the added bonus of redundant PSU.

    • @theheatstudio
      @theheatstudio  Месяц назад

      That's an Audinate design choice, they do not use etherCON on their devices. I guess it has to do with the fact that it's design to be connected to network switches and there are only a handful of models with etherCON. It deploys much easier into any kind of network. It's working perfectly fine in the biggest tours

    If using multiple x16, does each need to be on dante, or does the x16D act as the main device and others are linked through TB3? Basically if i want 64ch in dante does each x16 need to be dante equipped? Or just 1? The apollo connectivity side of dante was not shown and how the uad boxes interact with each other over dante and how it interacts with console.

    • @theheatstudio
      @theheatstudio  Месяц назад

      You have to connect them all to the network as well as the thunderbolt which can all be daisy chained. You can also connect each one of them to a network switch and even do redundant networks with 2 network switches.

      @@theheatstudio i have a dante interface card with redundant setup, but in order for me to track 16+ch you are saying that i need to have each x16 on dante separately? So if i had an apollo x4, i couldnt use it other than a monitor controller? as people with apollo already now need to replace all of them instead of just getting the x16D for dante conectivity... I was hoping it would work just like using their tb3 but can now pass through dante instead of tb3. Just select that as the main unit but they talk over tb3. If this is the case thats really poor integration.

      @theheatstudio  Месяц назад

      @@thunderhousesound1974 i’m not sure I understand 100% how you want to integrate it but all Dante devices from any company have to be connected to a network or daisy chained if you’re not doing redundant. This is normal behavior for all Dante devices. This Apollo x16D works for great for inserting UAD plugins at low latency for live consoles for example. In a recording studio you can use Dante enabled preamps which have to be connected to a switch as well and then route the signal into the x16D to be processed with UAD plugins

      @@theheatstudio i have a dante interface that is nothing but dante port it can do 512ch over dante. I want to be able to track and mix with a hybrid solution justvlike going to tape but need converters to interface over dante. Basically i want how the tb3 works with the apollo, but instead of tb3 it has a dante connection sending the i/o. Ive been looking for a 64ch i/o dante solution and was hoping that uad would do something as im invested in their platform but this is totally not that. They just needed to make a card for their existing interfaces. For me its not usuable as a converter in the digital console realm as i need a dante converter to insert hardware. This product was poorly thought out. Making the user still keep the box close to the computer (because it HAS to connect via TB) negates one of the benefits of networked audio. They should have made a version of Console that is controllable via Ethernet. As it stands, this is nothing more than a Satellite with Dante...for $2000.00 more.

    I'm sorry, having a DANTE being the ONLY I/O other than TB is crazy and not worth it. UA should just ADD Dante to their apollos(like they did with firewire to TB cards they sold), instead of making a whole new box. Sorry this aint it.

This is for all types of audio but really shines in live, broadcast and realtime production environments which almost exclusively Dante these days. What many studio operators are unaware of is that many other manufacturers have recently offered something similar in partnerships with console manufacturers. This brings the massive library of UA solutions to the live world without the need for an additional interface.
