Thanks for posting this. I have a gen 2 OctoPre. These instructions didn't work for me quite the same. Focus Control doesn't work. I wasn't able to get the Apollo Twin to "see" the ADAT. In case anyone, like me, is boneheaded, open up the Console in UA, in "settings" go to the "hardware" tab and under "device name" there's a box that says "digital input." By default it's set to "S\PDIF." Click on the lower right corner of that box and you get a drop-down that allows you to select "ADAT" instead. After that's done change your "clock source" to "ADAT" as well and you're good to go! You may need to restart your DAW after to be able to assign the 8 new ADAT inputs, but other than that you're ready to record more things!
Lol I was searching around for expansions and came across your video! About two weeks ago I was looking at that Focusrite, but Arturia came out with something that blows that 18i20 out of the water for those of us that use clock capable Apollo's. On another note: I don't know if you've been on the UAD forums on facebook but I've seen more of these Twin x's broke down than cars on the side of the highway in the summer time man. I HOPE that this one lives longer! Thanks for the cool vidja!
Oh man don't tell.me that! My UA is my.main rig at the moment. The focusrite is lent out and the Tascam is for sale. I'll.be so m pissed if the UA dies. The way those relays click - its only a matter of time. Not sure if you know what I mean by that .
@@QuestForGear For sure! I know exactly what relays you're talking about! The x8p does it too, but I'm pretty sure those are just the preamp/HiZ and PAD circuits during the self test. I have a silver USB Twin (Had it for almost 10 years) I use to this day for outdoor stuff and it works great! I have a theory that they just get too darn HOT!!! I pointed a hacked up computer fan on mine for years and it stopped stalling/disconnecting after the first month of some hiccups. If you keep it cool, it'll probably last forever. I put a fan on my x8p just out of tradition and it works just fine aside from some dim LED's.
Thank you for the video, was helpful for me. Could you explain Twin X just can't send outputs to the 18i20? Would be nice if I could send more outputs from the Twin X to Focusrite..
There is only optical IN and not out - so it cannot be expanded. You can get a maximum of 6 out on the twin - thats the x4 1/4 inch outputs and then L+R stereo head phones. You can do the other way though - let another device be the outputs. Does this make sense?
For sure. For fast tracking - it's hard to beat the Tascam. But the metering is TERRIBLE. If you are recording multiple people in a noisy room - then another interface into Reaper is good as you can SEE the waves - SEE the red clip lights to set you levels. It's 2 different worlds for sure. If I didn't own $thousands in plugins, Id likely stay in the Tascam. But I feel the pull of the DAW / Reaper / UA plugins. I'm still caught between the 2 worlds and go back and forth. As for what is FUN.... the Tascam is FUN. No keyboard, monitor, mouse - just old school tracking.
@@QuestForGear Am I right in understanding that using Apollo twin x as the main card in the bundle, despite the fact that Apollo twin x does not have an optical output, but only an input, I will still be able to access the routing of the new eight Scarlett 18i20 outputs in the uad console?
@@QuestForGear And what about Uad console, UAD plugins, if I choose 20i18 in DAW, and not Apollo twin? Or is it only a matter of choosing the clock? Maybe you have a video, or a manager mode for communication? I have Apollo twin and I need to include a guitar processor in the gap, while feeding the processor a UAD preamp, and listen to all this in DAW, through my Apollo. Maybe I didn't explain it very well, I'm not a pro yet.
" what about Uad console, UAD plugins" - the Twin has a limitation of 10 in and 6 out, there is no way around that. This video - and the 4x video are the only videos I have to offer - not sure about 'manager mode'. UA support is pretty decent if you give them a shout - it's their job to answer these questions. Good luck !
any optical cable would work or is there any special cable i have x8p and motu 896mk3 hybrid i want to use x8p as main and motu as slave as i just want to use motu's i/o any help ??

Quik question QFG, can I use this with a Blacklion Revolution Exp?

Is there a noticeable difference from the Tascam? I enjoy the mixer type workflow and the ability to record without a computer.

hi, buddy, where do you have connected your monitors , into the apollo or the scarlett?
i mean if youre using the monitors as another line outputs or your conecting your main monitors into the apollo it
A good question - I'll review the video and get back to you - I am super certain they would be connect to the Apollo - but I'll check on that.
Connected to Apollo for sure - I know this because ... I didn't connect the Focusrite's Outputs via ADAT.
having trouble using this setup with pro tools? any advice? super helpful btw
Sorry, have not used pro tools since....... 2005-ish? I'm a Reaper guy these days.
Please tell me how many additional outputs the bundle provides UAD Apollo Twin X and Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 ?
If you connect the 2... you should be able to get 12 out.

You would have to go the other way - let the other device be the main. The Twin is only 10 in and 6 out.

Do I need to install the Scarlett driver on my computer ?
Couldn't hurt - as you need the 'Control' software to get into it.
This is the way.

any help ??
I'm at work right now - but I'll look up that hardware when im able to see what you might need. Likely a "TOSLINK ADAT FibreOptic Cable" is needed.
Is it necessary for live multienstrumental performance?
If you want more channels - for more mics - this adds more channels.
You know if this works same for the Apollo gen 2?
I can only assume.
i have apollo solo can i do the same thing ??
The Solo doesn't seem to have an ADAT and is fixed at 2 in / 4 out. Luckily - it wouldn't be too tough to sell the Solo and buy a used Twin.
