- A lot of people think of catfishing as a warm water only species. Yeah, they bite perty gewd during the summer, but the best tasting catfish you will eat are the ones out of cold water! I don't know why, but when the water temps are a few degrees above freezing, catfish fillets get whiter, firmer, and way tastier! Here's one way I like to catch 'em and how I like to cook them during the fall!

I remember when I was in your class I was in fishing club then you said you were going to take us fishing and I didn't go cause I was so embarrassed I didnt know how to fish with a fishing pole cause being native American I learned other ways to fish😂 I always fish alone cause of that

Nothing better than fresh fish on a creek or river bank! Try adding a little mustard to the hot sauce then roll your fish in batter and fry them since you said you like the darker brown ones!!! Its a little extra work but its definitely good to try!

Great video, I enjoyed every minute of it. I don't think there's much of anything that tastes as good as fresh caught fish on the bank. You've done made me hungry again. I've cooked fresh caught Trout but never catfish. I've got to get out there and give it a try.

Older I get, the more I hate the heat and humidity of summer. I’ll take cold any day. Will add that you’ve piqued my curiosity with those hot sauce dips before frying. Gonna try it next time. Agreed, food is always better outdoors!

Cold weather like that means 2 things to me here in Texas. 1. It's Deer season so I'm usually in the stand playing the waiting game. 2. When I'm not hunting it's definitely time to chase the big blue cats cause they love the cold weather and I love catching them.
We have some big deer, but no big blues unfortunately in my part of the state.

As far as the shoes go, not that it matters, my oldest daughter lost two different shoes fishing creeks this year wading with me. She would sink a little in creek sand, freak out and pull her foot out quick. Shoes never to be seen again. My wife didn’t find it amusing when she came back twice with one shoe

In my river a 3 inch tube jig in green pumpkin or mustard will catch the walleyes but be prepared to catch everything else to even channel cats and flatheads

River Certified we have some wels catfish here in the UK, not giants like in Europe, I’ve caught catfish in Thailand on chicken hearts they love them out there, I live on the south coast of England so was brought up sea fishing 👍
It's was in the 80s here until today still not cold but the temperature has dropped a bit but I had a good day catching some wipers and a gar on the top water can't wait for some snow to ride the quads in

one of my biggest cats was caught last Thanksgiving in the Great Miami River. i was using a jig and minnow for eyes. I popped a 8lb. channel cat. the water temp. was 38 and it was like pulling up a log. a very tasty log....lol

if you’re gonna fish in the cold/wet times... invest in a pair of frog tog pants. they’re super thin and work super well. I use them for work and I never get wet at all. and they cut the wind pretty well if it’s a really windy and cold day.
I used to have those before I got a goretex suit. It was expensive, but nothing else compares. It's going on its 9th year.

Bleeding out your catfish, or any fish for that matter, really kicks the taste level up a couple of notches. I am starting to use the ikejime method on my fish to enhance the flavor even more. Cold water catfish, bleed out, and the ikejime performed, then trimming off the yellow and brownish ( red ) meat, has to be the best tasting catfish fillets possible.
They went there with 3 shoes and left one after they decided which 2 they liked best. LOL
FWIW, I like Lawrey's brand lemon pepper marinade as a way to make my breading stick when cooking riverside or fresh eater channels.
It is amazing how many plastic baits you can stuff in a small place.

Last year I fished in 34 degree weather around new years an slammed catfish crappie carp an bass sadly no walleyes or white bass out here in south Louisiana to catch but hopefully you get better luck @RiverCertified

@@RiverCertified yeah but My neighbors love them channels from 3 to 8 pounds or 10 bigger I throw back I don't wanna hurt the fish world an I've cut some giant Garfish off biggest one I've seen down here was the spring time because it lunged out the water with a 6 pound puppy drum mixed in with a school of carp by the thousands an the Garfish was damn near 11 foot long his head was so gray that his eyes turned grayish green. I used a Fresh 2 pound bass head puppy drum heads or just cut the tail an have a 3 foot leader an they will hit it if there in the area

when i started fishing for walleye and small mouth out of the des moines river. i had an old guy tell me to tip the hook with a tiny piece of worm with the jig. seemed to work pretty good not sure why, other than just maybe scent.
