  • I received this lovely fountain pen from Osprey Pens. They sent me the Milano in Red Jasper.
    This was the first time I had a pen company send me a pen for review. I really like pretty much everything with this pen especially the ability to swap out nibs and turn a regular pen into one where you can do some serious calligraphy.

    I just bought one of their flex nibs at the DC pen show and I really like it. Not sure why they aren’t more popular. Still need to break it in a bit to get where their tester is, but I really enjoy it! Good review, holds up!

    Thin flat rubber ring would fix it nicely, or maybe just brush rubber cement thinly under the cap knob part

    Nice pen and setup! Beautiful and versatile tool för writing! Only itch that the CNC programmers and the clip smiths weren't on the same page regarding measurements.
    From the video it looks as the well in the cap, for the clip ring, is a little bit too deep to fit the exact thickness of the clip ring. If so, the brave hearted might like to put an abrasive sheet on their desk, coarse side up, and ever so gently move the end of the barrel over it , gripping it as low as possible, and frequently checking the result, until the relative depth of the well is exactly right, and even around the circumference.
    A less irreversibel fix would be increasing the thickness of the clip ring by for example repeated dipping in shellac (every pen enthusiast should have some in their drawer at all times, don't you think :-) letting it cure over night between dips. Surplus shellac around the edges is easy to wipe off with a cloth slightly dampened with pure ethanol.
    I used the first method on a couple of Noodlers Konrads, and the second one on a vintage Matador. Worked perfectly.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  3 года назад +2

      Yeah the bore has to be deep enough to fit the clip & be able to make assembly simple. It's tough to get all parts exact. Have to account for part tolerances. None of these are "precision" parts. So to make the parts economical to produce, within tolerance, and easy to assemble sometimes slight design revisions can be made which don't slow down production time or drastically increase cost. Always a balancing act during manufacturing/production. Can make anything super precise with very close fitments, but comes at a price.

      @@Doodlebud My FPR Triveni Junior in ebonite is the pen that impressed me the most, with exact threading and fit of the clip. The clip design appears on many FPR pens, so they might even have designed the pen around the clip!
      The Osprey folks made an entirely new pen which is impressive. And they will go on with increasing success , and reach perfection soon I think.

    • @Doodlebud
      @Doodlebud  3 года назад +1

      O ring works, but adds another part & assembly step to the pen. Also another part to get lost during disassembly/assembly. O-rings are great for providing a seal, and in this case a seal isn't required.
