Karen, I have been wanting to create an art journal but had no idea how to begin. I love yours! I immediately cut some Watercolor paper and used my Happy Planner rings to put them together. Now, I am cutting some stencils on my Cameo. Next is adding some texture! I don't have any Jane Davenport markers but I do have lots of distress oxides. I can't wait to see what I can create! Thanks for your videos! They are so helpful....and your pace was perfect!
Great real time video! I appreciate the entire process and so few artists make their videos this way when they want us to learn something from them. The details matter!!!
I will make more of these for sure. already posted a second one. I never realized so many people want real time videos or I would have done them before. I've gotten amazing positive feedback so I will do it for sure
Hi Keren: thanks for your video. If you wished to make your own journals, you can buy a paper punch from the Happy Planner. I learned this from Vicki P. (from Greece) videos. I bought mine at Michaels. You can punch your mixed media paper and buy those clips from Michaels or Amazon to put your journal together. Happy creating!
yes I know Vicki is a good friend of mine and she's amazing!! I have a good relationship with Joggles so I try to support them but that's a good option too!!
Thank you so much Eileen please do and if you share it, please tag me!! you can also join my facebook group. Keren Tamir and Friends Creative Space and share it there.
Thank you for doing this in real time! So many artist speed everything up, and then I don't have a clue as to how it was done. Are you an art teacher? Or were you an art teacher? Did you study art? I watch all of your videos.
thanks so much!! so glad to hear because I always worry It will be too boring or long for people but I've had positive feedback from people!! thanks so much I do teach in different stores but I didn't study art, I'm self taught. However I've always loved art and it runs in my family!!
Great video! If you like the Jane Davenport Mermaid Markers (which are really just ink in water brushes), you should get some of the new ones that just came out a couple of months ago. Some have glitter ✨ (if you like glitter, that is)! She also now has a line of water based inks, which are so versatile: you can write with them (she even makes fountain pens you can fill), use fine-tipped bottles, even fill empty water brushes (she makes those too!) to make your own Mermaid Markers. The only complaint I have is that they aren’t carrying the new products at my local Michaels, but I ordered them from the website when they were on sale, plus a 20% off everything coupon so it was all about half off (always plan Michaels shopping for when they have good coupons - which is all the time practically!). It was so inspiring to see how you used them - I really want to try that stenciling technique! Thanks!
yes I want to buy some of the new ones for sure. She had an exclusivity with michaels this past year but not anymore so everyone is carrying them. thanks so much for all your info
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this even though you say it was slow paced. It will give me the opportunity to follow along when I am able to get my journal out.
I love the real time! When I have that much spare ink on my mat, I just paint the other side completely! Saves creating the background colour on my next project. Or, I dip scrap water colour paper into it, for die cutting sentiments or letters to create the title on the same page :)
I mean that I don't gesso over it, just keep going and cover it all! I love everything this layout, I think I will try it out on Monday when I have time to play! Xx
The watercolor effect from the markers was so lovely!!! and what a hoot that you had that butterfly body leftover from another project! My soul dances during your videos....big hug, cat
oh Cat thank you so much!! it was meant to be with the butterfly and i believe wholeheartedly on meant to be. I love what you say as my soul dances when I create!!
Very Beautiful Keren! I got the paint pens this past summer as well and have only used them once on the Crazy Birds Stamps. I didn't think to use them in my journal, unsure why. The colors look absolutely beautiful! And can't wait to give them a go. I'm glad you had a wonderful time at creativation and loved the videos I've watched. (Have a few left, I know I'm terrible...haven't finished) All the new products look so fun! TFS this video as always... Many Hugs your way and a very Happy Valentine's to you for yesterday! We all need to continue to spread much needed LOVE around. Long after V-day. So here's to you! ~*"*~*"*~*"*~*"*~💝💝💝💝 A HUGE HUG, MUCH LOVE, & LOADS of SMILES 🤗 to YOU my SWEET FRIEND! Always, Dawn 🦋
AWWWWW!!!! you're so so sweet!! thanks so much!! hope all is well with you!! I'd love to see what you create!! xoxoxoxo and Happy belated Valentines day!
I love your art work all the time, and I think the way you monetized the video is superb! All the commercials are very short, which is absolutely wonderful! Short commercials are definitely bearable and I am more likely to pay attention to them.
thank you so much Barbara!! although I want to thank you for the monetization comment, it is actually out of my control. RUclips takes care of that and I'm glad yours is short. some people complain of the opposite but I always say that its out of my control. I need to monetize in order to give free content. its a great win-win situation for everyone.
Just beautiful as usual Keren!!!! I'm probably in the minority here, but I prefer longer real time videos, just sayin! :) I love anything you create and always look forward to your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and awesomeness with everyone! Love you Girl!!!
Melanie, you're actually in the majority which is actually not what I expected as I thought that people prefer short videos. However I've gotten such a positive response from the real time videos that I'm going to do this from now on. Just because I don't have time to watch long videos, it doesn't mean that others don't lol. and also it helps people learn the techniques. I always forget that lol
One more thing, instead of using gesso to blank out the back of the watercolor pages that get color on them, you can also use white watercolor ground (I got mine made by Daniel Smith at Amazon). It’s like paintable watercolor paper! Very cool stuff to play with! You don’t have to use it on watercolor paper, you can put it on other surfaces so you can watercolor on them. Xo.
Thank you! I enjoyed watching the 'live' video and your techniques. By the way, the Mermaid Marker colour named Byron Bay is a seaside town on the East Coast of Australia. :)
I think real time video are the best to watch, so Thank you. Ýou can use them pens by just pinting a very small amount on your mat, then use a paint brush n water to apply the pens ink to the page, its just the same but saves so much ink, it will make your pens last twice as long. Lovely book pages it looks very nice, Thank you for sharing 😀
WOW !! Love it !! I have not done any art journal yet but after watching your video I think I will give it a try. I always enjoy your video"s. Thanks!!:)
Love the end result! Would love to see more art journal pages that you create! I just recently got the heavy body gel medium and havent played just yet but am looking forward to it
Hello Keren, Thank you so much for sharing your art talents. I am new to art journaling and find your videos so helpful. I'm glad you show everything step by step. My 8-year granddaughter also loves art and she and I want work on an art journal together. I love the art journal product you use as the pages can be removed and put back in. I will definitely be purchasing this. Marianne
Hello Keren, it was the first time watching your channel. I enjoyed this easy instruction journal project, it is true that last is more". I really felt the techniques you used in this video where very interesting and a pleasure to watch. I will definitely watching more of your videos, as well as trying some of the techniques.
this is all really new to me .its exciting .ive been looking at it for ages scared to do it in case a made a mistake .I didn't think if a did make one I just take that page out and try again lol what am I like xxx
You can order directly from Joggles to the UK they ship all over the world. I know people that ordered to Portugal and to Australia. They give you 20% off shipping for international if you spend over 50$. and they are the ones who sell my foam stamps too.
Yes I do still like them because they’re vibrant. I also love my Sigg markers as well but I really want to try the mermaid markers for one of my Neurographic art backgrounds As they’ll probably look so good
Nice video. The Journal is bound by a system called Arc. I have the punch you use to make those pages. I got it free, and just can't make myself get rid of it even though I have never used it. But now I know just what I am going to make with that punch! I really love how you didn't fill the entire page with the stencil and paste. It is beautiful.
oh wow, that's awesome. whats the brand of that punch. a few people have asked and I didn't even know it exists as the journal came that way and i thought it was laser cut
I am not sure of all the brand names; these are just two I found. They are not cheap punches and that is why I have held on to mine. Mine is the heavy duty one Stapes sells called "Staples Arc Punch" . Another brand is "Levengers Circa Punch". Levenger makes a cheaper ($22.00) model they call the "Circa 1-2-3 Portable Punch" that can punch one piece of paper at a time. You can buy the discs in different diameters 1/4", 1/2",3/4", 1", 1 1/2", 2", and 3" on Levenger's web page. Staples sells the disks in stores and online. Slightly thicker paper turns easier than computer weight paper, but you can use any paper.
That marker was named after Byron Bay (a famous beach side suburb in NSW Australia where international celebrites flock to). As it turns out Jane Davenport lives in Byron Bay.
Love this process Karen, beautiful work.. would u mind telling me what camera you use for this video? It’s so clear and I’m trying to find a new one.. thank u lady!
thanks so much!! the camera is this one: amzn.to/2szvJj4 I switched last year as I had an older model. Its a webcam so it connects directly to my computer and the good thing is that I can see what I'm doing as I'm recording on my computer. That way I know if I'm in frame. its very handy and attaches to any tripod. Since its connected directly to the computer there's not issue with recharging battery in the middle of filming. and i save the video right onto the computer.
Wow! Never did i ever think of having a journal like that joggles!! They use the same system as the happy planner and guess what?! I have a happy planner that i no longer use and can my my own! Sorry joggles but a girl has to stick to a budget 😉😆😆
Joggles used to carry it but this video is quite old. So they don’t have it anymore. However you can use a butterfly die and cut it out of watercolor paper. Or even trace a butterfly you printed.
Do you think there’s a distinction between art and craft? They told me in art school that unless you’re applying intent from the start, it falls into the category of craft. And if it doesn’t evoke emotion it’s neither.
I personally make no distinction...what exactly do you mean by intent? As in having a clear idea of what you want your end result to be? (If so, I find that kind of silly, because sometimes it just doesn't go that way. I'd rather go with the flow.)
Lynxie Dove I mean by looking at your composition and project with almost a scientific method. Hypothesis, test, learn, repeat till you get it right. Craft is chance/random rather that concise and deliberate
this is a topic that has been discussed for centuries lol. I think it comes down to how the person feels about their project. I make no distinction as I think there's so many different types of art. I don't feel crafting is random and at the same time I put intent no matter what project I do. Intent is relative I would say. I think the main category is ART and then you have sub categories like painting, sculpting, crafting, mixed media, silk printing, etc. some categories some will consider crafts like silk printing but its still an art to me. I guess some people might disagree with me but I feel I'm both an artist and a crafter
@@KerenTamir I'm not sure myself yet how I'm going to do it either LOL - but I do have an artistic soul trying to escape LOL. Thank you for the encouragement and I will check out more of your videos. I've just started experimenting on RUclips myself but not sure about doing art - scary! :D
Ohhh dear Keren!! This is so beautiful, I love the outcome!! You are so talented and creating beauties like these!! I really enjoy watching your videos!! I will explore world of mixed media with your help. I know you are so kind and will always fill our minds with lots of amazing ideas. I am so shy and wonder how confident you are while making these real time videos!! I wish to make some good mm projects so i can say that you are my inspiration. I am trying my hard to learn and improve my skills. you are an amazing teacher and friend !!! Thanks for sharing such a lovely video!! Hugs Dr Monika Tripathi Shukla
thank you so much Monika, your words mean so much. I've been doing it for a long time and practice helps. you will learn with time but I think your work is great!! stay confident and love what you do!
Hey Sherry you found it. Funny I just wrote you back it’s the Jane Davenport mermaid markers. I’m not sure if they’re available still and this video is five years old you can try Jane Davenport website.
Hi Tina, Unfortunately this is a very old video so things get discontinued which product you were looking for in particular? I will see if I can find it.
@@KerenTamir I was looking for the heart or any other resins for that matter. I can’t remember exactly what else right now, but I think I found a way to supplement the other products.
hehe they are listed in the description. aren't they great? here are the links; • Ranger Ink - Dina Wakley Media - Collage Words --- ldli.co/e/l355n2 [ ScrapBook.com ] --- ldli.co/e/xm00dz [ joggles.com ] I always try to list everything
Hi there, which products do you mean? the mermaid markers are still available and the paste too. maybe the stencil is not. The art journal yes. could be links are old. let me know which ones and I will add links for that one

that's great yes you can use distress oxide inks. I've used them many times. There's a playlist just for distress oxide inks.
Love it! A perfect pace for understanding and following the tutorial. Thank you for sharing an inspiration to inspire

Crafty 62512 hi I have seen those discs around. Can you please tell me who makes them? I’m with you. On a budget and prefer to make my own. Thanks
Julia Nichols mambi makes them. You can look in the planner section of Michaels or even Wal-Mart!
Crafty 62512 thanks!
Julia Nichols you're very welcome!
that's great if you have them. the discs are great, I would need the die to cut the edges though so they can fit. lol
I love this Keren, so pretty:-)
Thank you so much Joyce!!
Question: I’m new to your channel and love your videos. Where can I purchase the cut outs that you use like the butterfly? Thank you so much
Joggles used to carry it but this video is quite old. So they don’t have it anymore. However you can use a butterfly die and cut it out of watercolor paper. Or even trace a butterfly you printed.
Thank you
That is gorgeous , love it. Tfs.😊
thank you so much Betty!!!
Very pretty Keren!!
thank you so much!!!
Absolutely beautiful! !!!! ♡♡♡♡♡ (US)
Thank you so much!!

Thanks for the links, cool page
thanks so much!!!
What kind of markers did you use in this video?
Hey Sherry you found it. Funny I just wrote you back it’s the Jane Davenport mermaid markers. I’m not sure if they’re available still and this video is five years old you can try Jane Davenport website.
Some of the links don’t take you to that product anymore, and some things are no longer being sold.
Hi Tina, I'm not sure what heart you mean or resins as I didn't use resin here as its an art journal. could it be another video?
😍😍😍
Where did you get the words? I love them. They are out of stock at scrapbook. Com
hehe they are listed in the description. aren't they great? here are the links; • Ranger Ink - Dina Wakley Media - Collage Words

I like it better, it flows..

It's too bad most of the products you share here have already been discontinued just 4 years later :(
Hi there, which products do you mean? the mermaid markers are still available and the paste too. maybe the stencil is not. The art journal yes. could be links are old. let me know which ones and I will add links for that one
