- A massive stone staircase makes quite a statement in the front of the house. Icing on the cake is a custom brass handrail that will sit on top of the stone. Kevin meets with Jay Coughlin at a metal fabrication company to see the rails coming together. The front room on the third floor will be a playroom for our homeowners daughter, Caroline. Kevin finds Mauro and Molly creating a blackboard on the closet doors.

Downstairs, Wayne is back to install the repaired balusters and refinish the unique handrail. Richard is in the kitchen with a lesson in make-up air. I grew up watching TOH, starting with Bob Vila, whom I sorely miss. I am a carpenter today because of your show. I hecame a carpenter late in life. I am in my late 40's. I have the knowledge gained from watching 40 years of TOH. Thank you for imparting your knowledge.

If you drove past this house you probably wouldn't even realize it's got a million dollars worth of new construction inside. Really understated in a way. I guess that's how old money rolls.

Season 41! Wow! Where did all the years go? I started watching these when they started. But, that was TV, weekly, on and off through the years since they started. Now, gosh I can watch Norman build stuff I've never seen before. I've seen these guys do what was exactly what I wanted to do, only, I saw it 15 years after the opportunity was gone. I want to make what they do, done become my normal. I see comments about costing of projects. Their purpose is not to be common ground but activate the urge to reach higher. To be better. To know more. In the years of this program being good at what you do is the norm. So, no matter what it is, be good at what you do. Reach higher.Is this the real meaning of 41 years?
contrast to Grand Design a British show where were the message is Budget and if you cant afford it, YOU HAVE TO DO THE PROJECT and persevere

I just can't cope with pie-lasters lol 😂 it's pill-asters.
For a smaller retrofit, single source power monitoring is ok, but given the scale of a TOH remodel, I really think they should have gone with monitoring on each circuit.

Electrical monitoring system is really nice….I’m sure not cheap. But I couldn’t get over the need for 400amp service. Wow! Power hogs.
I understand why the used plaster in the old days they didn’t have drywall that’s why there’s laths in the wall but now a days they don’t need it

I've always wanted to be a Master Craftmans. But it's so hard to switch careers and/or hobbies right now. I'm one of the best fly fishing bait makers in the eastern US so being a Master Baiter is going well for me at the moment.
Maybe one day I'll try to master wood as well and become a hybrid sort of thing, a Master Wood Baiter.

Aaw I got excited when I saw Roger in the preview. I stopped watching after he left, so I thought he had returned. Hope you’re well, Roger. You’re missed.
They have him on every so often
But then they also plaster walls up there still for some reason idk why. It takes forever to do it plus a week to dry before you can paint it. Idk why you would use it. Down here Sheetrock it run the seams and sand it’s ready in a day for paint

20:40 Smart utility meters are the same thing that was installed in this house.
If you have a smart utility meter, or in other words anything else then a strictly mechanical only utility meter, then the utility company knows when you switch on lights, when you use a hairdryer, a microwave and use any electrical appliance.

I am sure most of the TOH contractors are in the same boat with you. They are working hard every day to make some rich couples dream come true. Consider only about 3% of the US population has the money to do this. A lot of rich people work hard for most of their lives unless they inherited money or a business, usually working 14+ hour days, 7 days a week with little vacation time. They might do this for 30+ years before they become wealthly to afford homes like these.
This show always makes me feel bad about having to go to Ace Hardware to buy a new toilet tank ball!
Mahogany railings that is are painted white? Criminal. Cutting valuable, non-replaceable tropical rain forest trees just to cover with paint. Why not just use plastic?

The project is nice and I have to admit, see a couple richer than God actually restore an old place versus building their own garish vision of a mansion is refreshing during these 'wealth consolidating' times!

LOL! They have a very tiny solar array, Probably under a 1KW in total that is tied into the home. Its the case of: "Look I got solar so I am green". In reality that home is anything but green (400 AMP service).

Maybe the guy should take a course in Electrical theory. On how Watts work...

Funny when the Painter in the kids room talks about using low
o VOC paint, but then show guys installing the stair railing using Lacquer paint which is VOC overload.
You could have saved all that money that was wasted in Afghanistan to build homes!
Hello This old house: Is their one of you who can help me with a make up air system? I have an industrial type ventilation system over my stove and it works really well if I have a window cracked open. But the problem with that is in the winter time it cools the house off and summer it pulls in the outside heat. So I’m losing money winter and summer. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks
