Hopefully this is an enjoyable video. There were some issues with getting it out, due to a lot of the music being copyright claimed, which is why I reused a lot of the same tracks and unfortunately couldn't use the awesome battle music or ending theme. Anyway, the reason for the long gap between videos was because I was working on a personal, non-RUclips creative project, but because that is finished I should be able to put more time into my upcoming videos. On a side note, this upload happens to coincide with this channel’s 4th anniversary.
Belated, but congratulations on the anniversary! Also, this is the first video I've seen about this game that actually talks about the battery draining on save and load, as well as the leads 'voice acting'. While the invisible enemies and the dreadfully limited ammo could at least be explained as creating genuine tension, the threadbare plot and two android reveals that don't really feel like they contribute... ANYTHING to the plot, feels like it all builds up to a game that certainly is 'auteur', but in the very worst ways. Still... someone has to make the weird experiments, if only to see what works and what doesn't.
Thanks! And yeah, that whole android thing is one of the dumbest plot twists I've seen in a video game in a while. I'm sure they were trying to say something, though I'm not quite sure what.
I knew bits about D and D2, with a certain level of intrigue from what I would hear, but this entry is a complete mystery to me. Also, great to see a new video from you! 0:31 - Well that at least explains the name difference. Companies can be pretty confusing with names for their series (both Bravely Default and Gal*Gun chose to call their 3rd game 2 for reasons I cannot fathom). 1:01 - I... wow; I never expected this sort of concept to come up. To be fair, it's not technically new to the video game industry. That was part of the reasoning behind Mario's creation (or Mr Video Game) and his numerous appearances in different games. Another case is Roland for the Amstrad line of computers, a consistent name for a character who would appear across multiple titles... usually ones which weren't original and Roland's design changed constantly. 3:47 - I think I missed your mention of the radar. I was wondering how you would avoid the invisible creatures. It's funny how this feels a lot like Alien Isolation almost 20 years earlier. 5:53 - That must be so satisfying pulling off a close range shot against an invisible enemy. It sounds frustrating but also perfect for a horror game. 8:26 - Odd concept given they don't seem well equipped to deal with invisible or dangerous aliens. 10:44 - The better gun and enemy visibility seems to be a reward for the horrors you've faced earlier. 14:28 - That's pretty neat how her loading includes a recap of what has happened. A nice refresher if you haven't played in a while (Sonic Adventure did pretty much the same thing). 16:54 - After the horrific events, I'd have thought a relaxing soak in a bath would be more appropriate.
It had a menu. It was the intro cutscene, a video about the developers, and the training mode I mentioned. It’s not exactly the longest video ever, but I guess with the limited storage it was the only way they could get it to work.
I seen my girlfriend's dad play this about a month ago when we went to visit him, it surprised me seeing theres so many games i never knew existed at the time before my birth or after
Despite playing "Enemy Zero" many times (around 20 years ago) I totally forgot that Laura was also an android. Got to admit "Enemy Zero" really made me feel uneasy my first playthrough. Don't you have to play this game in one go? From what I remember the saving/loading device doesn't save the game in a traditional way. If you turn the game off before completing it, you have to start all over again. You forgot to mention the '0' disc also has a staff credit roll showing everyone that worked on the game...Including Fumito Ueda.
I'm always working on a video for this channel, and I edit stuff between 20-40 minutes a day each weekday, but it can be very time consuming. I was also working on a non-RUclips creative project for a while, which kind of took a lot of my attention.

How did you mange to emulate this game? which emulator did you use?
It was with OpenEmu for Mac, which uses Mednafen.
Wait, so disc 0 was just an intro cutscene? Did it even have a menu? How long was the cutscene?

It definitely feels like a dad game, or at least the kind of thing my video game-loving uncle would’ve played.
While I’m not sure if I’d ever play it, I would check out a remaster on modern platforms….i just don’t think I can handle those invisible aliens 😆
I can understand. It would definitely benefit from a modern release that makes it more accessible.

@@LegendOfGames oh really that's really nice to know
