  • What's up, Cavalry, we are back again today with yet another House of the Dragon reaction and commentary to the brand new episode, 1x9, 'The Green Council'!
    What. An. Episode!!!
We are, once again, thrown into the midst of political turmoil following King Viserys' death and witnessing the ripple effects of his absence radiate throughout all the characters was... difficult, to say the least, making us feel that this story is now at a precipice, especially with the thundering score to the image of new King Aegon raising his sword to his people.
Another masterclass in visual storytelling, this episode was filled with intrigue, mystery and the possibly the greatest, most badass dragon rider reveal in the history of Game of Thrones.
This episode, helmed by Clare Kilner, belonged completely and totally to Olivia Cooke's Alicent and Eve Best's Rhaenys. These two women were powerhouses, hurricanes unleashed upon the audience with their unbelievable acting talent - what a sight to behold!
What did you guys think about this episode?? For those of y'all that haven't read the books, what do you think is going to happen for the season finale?

I really liked how Alicent covered her son with herself to protect him. She stood between him and the giant beast without second thoughts and fear for herself. And before that, she ordered Criston, instead of protecting her, to protect her daughter. This scene really got me.

She can’t see what exactly is gonna happen or when it’s gonna happen. She just knows something is gonna happen that’s it. She also referenced Bran being the last king who’d have no legs in episode 7

I LOVE that Alicent paranoia over her childrens lives was 110% confirmed legit since the lords where very well prepared to throw her in her chambers if she would be difficult to deal with and proceed to crown Aegon no matter what. But she chose to play against her father to try to protect both her kids and Rhaenyra.... being Alicent sucks

I was blown away by the details of the coronation. It felt like watching Nicholas II being crowned in an Orthodox ceremony with all the hollow pomp & circumstance of a rotting system. It's what I'd always envisioned from a GoT coronation. Tom Glynn-Carney was terrific in bringing out Aegon's emotions of fear, hesitation, pride & euphoria all at once. I'm glad they kept much despised Criston putting the Conqueror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born! What the show's doing really well is the details, down to locking up servants. Usually the passionate debates, the sense of treachery & heartbreak are glossed over. We only see the regime change as a "fait accompli". This bring to life the mechanism that historically goes behind a coup, which I assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I like agonized & conflicted Alicent more than her steadfast source counterpart. It's more flesh & blood. She vacillates but her messianic fear for her children fates her to make a cursed gamble.
*Jokes aside, I only support my Green Lives Matter King for the extermination of Strong Boys cause I'm pro Valeryian blood supremacy.*

The coronation scene was so subtle, so powerful and just so finely enhanced by all the actors' performance, it was such a emotionally confusing moment. We felt all the things you mention - the dread of seeing Aegon walk down that hall amongst the people, almost as if he were walking to the gallows. There are an overwhelming amount of complex emotions in this, and it just goes to show again how incredibly talented and skillful the writers of this show are!

Thank you for another great reaction. It's nice to see when reactors analyze the episodes and characters deeper, especially in a show like this, and see every point of view, instead of just get into it with some kind of bias.
The episode was totally different than I expected, it was kinda weird, but I enjoyed it very much. So far, I felt like they were trying to make Team Black look "better", to push them to be more "likeable" to the fans, but I'm glad they are starting to give more dimensions to the Greens as well and make them more humane. The acting was really great and all of them played their part very well.
My attention keeps coming back to Aemond, and he still didn't even do anything that's important for the plot, nor had many lines and screen time. But whenever he appears he just manages to grab the attention. He had a very few lines so far, but they were really cool and he delivered them so well. I loved how here he is so different from ep.8, where he was badass, but with his family he looks a lot calmer and soft. The actor is doing a crazy good job. I'm sure he'll deliver perfectly in the next episode as well.
I also like that they showed more of Aegon and gave a side that you can somehow understand and relate to in a way. Same with Alicent. Rhaenys showing up was cool, but I have to admit I didn't really understand the point of the scene.
Sorry for the long comment, but there aren't many places where you can actually have a good discussion about the story and characters without fans being too biased towards one character and not even wanting to talk about the story.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Год назад

Absolutely - the point is to humanize every character, show their flaws and their good sides. Nobody is 100% good or evil. When people make choices, it's not because they woke up saying, 'hey, let me be a villain real quick' - it's because people feel justified in their actions. We need to see and understand those justifications, and especially now that the Greens have usurped the throne, and accidentally killed Luce (which is definitely NOT how Rhaenyra and Daemon will see it!) we need to see how their choices affect them and motivate them. That's what makes a story and its characters truly compelling and unique. To be fair, they did course-correct relatively well with the Greens' episode, so I can't wait to see how they're going to develop each character more and flesh out the conflict further.

Regarding the episode… Rhaenys didn’t go to the Dragonpit. The coronation was already happening there. So, she didn’t go there just for the sake of the ‘fun’ ceremony. Lots of show viewers were confused though.
As for Alicent’s misunderstanding… I don’t know guys, to me it was like she heard what she already wanted to hear. She knew he was drugged and unwell, so those words should’ve been perceived more skeptical…but not by her :) Additionally, what Rhaenys said about Alicent trying to please the men around her was 100% true. Let’s take just the feet scene alone. While Rhaenyra takes from men what she wants (love, intimacy, beneficial station) men take what they want from Alicent.

Episode title: “It is our fate, I think, to crave always what is given to another. If one possesses a thing, the other will take it away.” AND “There is no power but what X allows you to take.”
    Random observations:
    - The gold in the treasury will be divided (and sent away to various places) for safekeeping.
    - Talya lighting the candles is the signal to Myseria that the king has died.
(They even zoom out the view to show that the candlelight is visible from far outside the Red Keep.)
    - Myseria has a healed cut across her throat
    - You flee what other men die seeking.
    Similarities

    - Viserys/Alicent
I feel like there is a weird similarity between Viserys and Alicent. Both of them having lived their lifes in a way Otto manipulated them to with them only late realizing that fact. All the danger their most beloved family is in, perceived or real, was created by Otto´s manipulations of their relationships with others. As Alicent expressed: “I wanted what you impressed on me to want.” Viserys´ relationship with Daemon, partly his relationship with Rhaenyra too and Alicent was the way Otto created it for them to be. The same goes for Alicent too in her relationship with Viserys, Rhaenyra and Aegon. I include Aegon because who knows how he would have turned out if he wasn´t burdened by expectations of what kind of qualities he should have for becoming king one day. He might have been good enough as he was and gotten the love he so deeply craves without being pigeonholed into something he never was.
Viserys and Alicent were also never able to see that people, mainly Otto, plotted behind their backs to create an outcome different than they themselves desired. Both took a long time to finally see it. Both also needed other people to show/tell them what was going on. In Viserys case it took Daemon and Rhaenyra to make him aware of Otto´s scheming and he still welcomed him back as a hand. Alicent needed Rhaenys words to see clearly.
If we are kind to Alicent and take her words on face value then her wish is to install Aegon as a king and yet prevent war. In that regard Viserys and her were also equal in their desire to resolve the succession peacefully. They only differ on the queen/king as the heir and in their methods in trying to achieve that goal.
Additionally in the green council Alicent forcefully demands that everyone acknowledges Viserys love for Rhaenyra and also that no harm may come to her or her family. Yet one sentence later Otto tries to send Ser Westerling to kill them all yet she doesn´t speak out again. Had Ser Westerling not refused that order she would have allowed it to happen.
Neither she nor Viserys did what was necessary to ensure the outcome they wanted and worked so hard for. There is either a naivety to both of them or some willful blindness in truly seeing their family for what they are. They might not be ready to pay the price for acting on what is so clearly visible.
    - Aemond/Ser Crispin
I find it very curious that both characters are equaled in this episode in 2 points:
    a) “I know what it is to toil for something others are freely given.”
I understand Aemonds point of view. The dragons of most of his peers were born to them but he needed to claim one. He also “paid” a price for it which the others didn´t have to. The others also were able to form friendships/companionships without effort (Aegon with Jace and Luke), they were also betrothed or married to women which brought/will bring advantages to their standing/fate in life. Yet he is alone. Aegon was given the crown despite him not having the right temperament nor the desire for it. And even though Aemond worked very hard to educate himself in history and philosophy and train himself to be a good warrior and had more characteristics which a king needed in his eyes than Aegon he still is only second in line to be king as to his understanding of Otto´s sucsession ideas.
I do NOT understand what Ser Crispin means. See below in my request for an explanation.
    b) “We are decent men with no taste for depravity.”
I don´t agree with this characterization of Ser Criston. He might not be a sexual deviant but he has already murdered 2 people without a just cause and if it was up to him he would have taken the eye of Lucerys without a moment of hesitation. Only the king, Ser Westerling´s and the crowd´s presence prevented him from acting on his base instincts.
    Comparisons
    - Rhaenys/Alicent (Targaryen loyalty/Living in the prison of the patriarchy´s making)
The Targaryens (- Alicent´s children) are refreshingly loyal to their own. They may disagree between themselves but everyone who is not them is on the outside. They won´t allow anyone to manipulate/sway them to a different side in a conflict away from their family no matter what they could gain by it. They are very direct in their speech and actions and less inhibited by manners aka traditions of Westeros. Rhaenys embodies the Targaryen “We are different than everyone else.” as do Rhaenyra and Daemon.
Yes, Rhaenys should have been Queen due to her being the daughter of Jaehaerys´ 3rd son while Viserys was son to the 4th son. Yes, Westeros has a strong patriarchy which doesn´t treat women as equals. All of that is true. Yet in my opinion that all wouldn´t have prevented Rhaenys from fighting to be Queen if not for the fact that Viserys was family. She would never harm who she considers family nor would she go up against them in public. If she has anything to say she will say it to that person directly in private. Like we´ve seen in this episode she has no issues declaring her support for Rhaenyra´s side despite Rhaenyra being a woman too and going against the wishes of the patriarchy. The only explanation of why she decides to fight in this war to put a queen on the Iron Throne NOW is because she doesn´t consider the other side, Alicent´s side, as family.
I think that Alicent truly doesn´t understand this loyalty between Targaryens which is the reason why she tries to offer Rhaenys everything she might wish for to side with her son´s fabricated claim to the throne. She believes that Rhaenys was adhering to the same rules and constraints placed on women by the patriarchy when she accepted the vote of the council who should be heir as Alicent herself does all her life. She tries to offer her a freedom no men in her own surroundings would probably ever grant a woman: inheritance of a titles/land and to choose a woman heir without interference.
Alicent sees herself limited to gently guide men with power away from violence and destruction to a peaceful solution. She can´t imagine a life without the limitations on herself the men around her decided upon. Targaryen women are different in the sense that they may or may not choose to go against wishes of men. They are free to decide for themselves. The only limitation they choose to place on themselves is not to harm whoever they consider family.
I know the argument she makes to young Rhaenyra in episode 2 and yet I feel my thoughts are still true especially in light of her actions in this episode. She might not even be aware of how much the Targaryen loyalty plays a role in her decision making.
Let´s take the example of last week´s Lord of the Tides question. Veamond wanted the throne for himself. I don´t think she considers him family. Let´s also imagine Viserys not coming to Rhaenyras aid and Otto and Alicent deciding the question. It was a given that Rhaenyra would lose the argument. Yes, Alicent and Otto made a deal with Vaemond beforehand but if Rhaenys would have put herself forward as the heir Otto and Alicent would probably have sided with her against Vaemond due to her and Baela´s dragons. She couldn´t have saved Rhaenyra´s claim but she would have been able to keep the title/lands/power in the Targaryen family. If there had been a possibility to save Rhaenyras claim with Otto and Ailcent I do think she would have supported Rhaenyra no matter her misgivings about her.
I quiet enjoyed Alicent trying to manipulate Rhaenys to her side only for Rhaenys to succeed in fracturing the bonds between Alicent and Otto. I loved how Rhaenys sowed division between team green and weakened their power with it.
At the end of the episode Rhaenys masterfully gave her answer to Alicent´s offer without speaking a word herself and letting Meleys do all the “talking” in the most effective and powerful way possible. She quiet effectively weakened the green side again in the eyes of the people and demonstrated that she is a dragon with a capital D (strong dragon) and only follows rules she sets herself.
    - Alicent/Otto
It seems as if Alicent´s conversation with Rhaenys finally made her see her father and his machinations clearly for the first time. It enabled her to regain her power and act according to her own wishes. It is a mirror of Rhaenyra and Daemon forcing Viserys to see Otto for who he is in episode 4 and to fire him as the hand. In both cases Otto replies with “Yor Grace” in recognition that his power is dependent on others giving up their inherent power to him.
It is really sad to see Alicent finally recognizing that after all she did for her father´s ambitions in the assumption that he loves her she turned out to be only a piece on the board for him who he dispassionately pushes this or that way which ever serves his purpose better.
She doesn´t even know nor did she ever know who she was, what she wanted or how much power she had for herself. In the end having been made aware of the tricks behind the manipulations behind the “magician” Otto his old ploys don´t work on her anymore, at least for the moment.
I think despite Rhaenys words Alicent still doesn´t know what being free looks like. She might have made herself a door though instead of a window in her prison walls.

      - Alicent reclaiming her power
Alicent is using the desires of men to fix them at her side/ensure their loyalty to herself (Ser Crispin/Larys). At least in that regard she discovered that she has power and uses said power to her advantage.
It is also quiet interesting how throughout the episode she tries to undermine/limit Otto´s usurption of power. At the beginning of it only vocally but not truly intervening (allwoing Otto to try to send Ser Westerling to kill Rhaenyra and her family) and after the conversation with Rhaenys more boldly.
      - Otto the puppeteer of Viserys, Alicent, Aegon
In my opinion one of the the subjects of this episode is “There is no power but what the people, Viserys, Alicent, Aegon, etc. allow you to take.” Yes, the Hand has inhered power but he serves at the pleasure of the king and has to follow whatever the king decides. The positions of queen and heir have also inhered powers. Yet Viserys, Alicent abdicate their inhered powers unknowingly to Otto and let him decide on matters close to their hearts. Otto feels power vacuums and fills them ruthlessly to advance his ambitions. It is incomprehensible to him that reluctance to murder is not a weakness as Alicent points out to him. In his argument about no king ever having lived who hasn´t forfeited the lifes of a few to protect the many he puts himself above a king. In the case of Rhaenyra he takes that power onto himself to sacrifice her and her family and doesn´t even consider waiting for Aegon to be crowned and asking him about his wishes in that regard. It is in the same vein as he never accepted Viserys choosing Rhaenyra as his heir til his last breath and simply ignored the king´s wishes to install his grandson on the throne.
      - Alicent´s relationship with her children
      o Aegon
Aegon wants to see his mother when the twins find him. He doesn´t feel loved neither by her nor by his father. He believes that his father never changed his mind regarding his heir, that he never liked him. He asks Alicent if she loves him point blank and even though her face might express that she does she never says so. Instead she chooses to call him an imbecile. She never says that she loves him directly even though she shields him with her body from Meleys. He clearly seeks her love and approval for the past 2 episodes now, yet he mostly gets slapped, screamed at by her. She even tells him he is no son of hers.
“He is desperate to be loved but destined to be hated.” That is the way the “grown up” actor described his take on Aegon.
      o Haelena
She is shrinking away from Alicent´s embrace, not wanting to be touched by her.
      o Aemond
He doesn´t get the recognition from no one for all he is and all he has done to educate himself about history or philosophy or train himself to be a great warrior. He does what he sees fit no matter what his mother wants but she let it slide because he doesn´t cause trouble with his actions he rather furthers her wishes. He acts in accord with Alicent´s goals despite his misgivings. He is Alicent´s only child who seeks physical, motherly contact with her and gets it reciprocated.
      - Aegon´s claiming power moment vs. Aemond claiming Vhagar
We all know or at least have an idea how claiming Vhagar changed Aemonds character. I´m truly curious how finally having huge power will change Aegon´s personality with him now having ascended the throne. It feels like the much talked Targaryen coin probably was still flipping in the air for both boys until gaining power settled the matter on which side it will finally land. I´m not holding my breath with Aegon though.
It was quiet funny to me how Aegon forced all the people who belittled him/treated him badly in his eyes to bow before him once he was crowned king. Even Otto :)))
      - Erryk/Arryk (Quenstioning orders/Following orders)
Ser Erryk is the twin who knows about what Aegon is doing in his spare time. He seems to have accompanied him various times.
He leads Arryk to the fighting pit, he explains the happenings there and shows him Aegon´s bastard child. One of many he assumes. He even asks Arryk if he now finally sees what Aegon is. Ser Erryk feels an urgency to act, to prevent Aegon from becoming the king. He says: “Aegon is unfit to rule. Something must be done.”
Ser Arryk on the other hand questions why Ser Erryk cannot longer tolerate the princes behavior as he has seemingly done for years. He doesn´t feel they have agency themselves. They have sworn an oath of service til their own death. It is for the Hand to decide what is to happen.
In my opinion Ser Erryk was able to fulfill his sworn duty as he puts it as long as he was only protecting Aegon in his capacity as kin to the king. He is no longer able to blindly follow orders and he is also no longer able to put his faith into the Hand of the King to find the wisdom to prevent Aegon becoming king since he so clearly sees that might not happen.
By the way Ser Erryk is the one who knows about the girl raped by Aegon during last episode.
He is also the one who "cannot let the treachery stand" and who free Rhaenys.
      - Ser Criston hypocrisy
“Every woman is the image of the Mother to be spoken of with reverence.” I laughed out loud when Ser Crispin said this sentence. What a hypocrite. Only a few episodes ago he called Rhaenyra a spider who stings her prey and sucks them dry. And even dared to proclaim she was a spoiled c-word. Is that the reverence he means when he talks about every woman being the image of the Mother??? Really??? So funny :)))
      QUESTION:
I truly struggle to understand Ser Crispin´s character and motivations.
Cinema Sublime explained to me that “Ser Criston is someone who grew up with no honors or titles, but was gifted with the ability to fight well. He never grew up learning about politics or how royal houses function. So when he's thrown right into the lions den of Kings Landing, he is way over his head. ... Honor is the one thing he's been able to control his whole life.”
I can see all that. What I still don´t get is if honor is at the core of his character why does he choose to dishonor himself every chance he gets? He chose to sleep with Rhaenyra and break his oath of chastity after lengthily thinking about it. He chose to confess to Alicent. He chose to beat Joffery to death without good cause. He was ready to take Luke´s eye if not for the appearance of honor in front of the king, Ser Westerling and the crowd. Just this episode he murders a member of the king´s council.
He never faces ANY CONSEQUENCES for any of his deeds but gets promoted for them (Protector of the Queen, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard). Rhaenyra gets forced to marry Laenor as a consequence of her adventure with Daemon, Daemon gets banished for the same. Ser Crispin deepens the fraction between Alicent and Rhaenyra with his confession and even though he was as “guilty” of it as she was he faces no punishment.
Let´s also remember that Ser Crispin is the same age as Daemon (both born 81 AC in the books) and 16 years her senior. Yet even though his age (34) at the time suggest he ought to be a bit wiser than her he firmly places all guilt and blame on an 18 year old.
In this episode Ser Crispin expresses: “I know what it is to toil for something others are freely given.”
I don’t understand what he means by it. He was given the post as a kingsguard to his own surprise by Rhaenyra. He didn´t have to work for it.
If he refers to honor which he said was so very important to him then he is the one who repeatedly, at every possible fork in his road CHOOSES to dishonor himself. Every once in a while he kills someone without ANY consequences.
Does he mean having a loving wife? (Rhaenyra or Alicent) Is he insercure about his own selfworth? Does he wish for someone to value and love him for himself? So what the f is he talking about????
Does anyone have any insight into Ser Crispin?

I think Game of Thrones expressed more verbally who their characters are and what their relationship to each other is. Their core was clearer to see on the surface. In this show I feel a lot of important things, dynamics, nuances to characters are mostly expressed visually. So one has to be very observant to not miss anything. Rhaenis´ core I only understood during writing my breakdown for this episode: Targaryen loyalty.

Criston Cole has heavy hands, he's gonna be around for a while unfortunately. An exceptional warrior (one of the few in the realm whose seen real battle) whose station has been amplified by being Kingsguard (who aren't just body guards but revered knights, who even have higher standing than some lower Lords) And he can be such an ass because he has the protection of the Queen but also very very few people could take him on in a fight - he can afford to be arrogant because of his status and lethal skill. His character is such a good commentary on how power works in a medieval like society. What stands as justice or honor depends on those who have the power to set the rule of the games. Criston has become one of those people.
I love his character because it represents how historically a lot of knights were violent and brutal bullies, who had to be reigned in by the church + nobility making them subscribe to superficial values of honor and chivalry.

One thing that makes me soo angry when watching GoT and HotD is how common people are usually treated. They pay taxes and see how they rise during wartime, they have to go to battle or see a beloved one going to battle and praying for their survival, they are crashed like flies or burned like BBQ... Not so different from the society I live in to be honest. And yet, what many people consider "this is good material for a good book/saga/movie/show" is people with high social status (aka the protagonists) fighting other people with or without social status (usually the villains, and usually there is the protagonist who is a good brave king, and then the villain, but I am quite satisfied im this aspect with George RR Martin). Like, for me monarchy and nobility and bourgeoisie are so idealized in our culture still today that, even though they may introduce us diverse characters within a story, it is usually about people that have money. How many times have we seen in Hollywood movies that the protagonists live in a cool quite big house (not an apartment or flat, whatever you call it), with a cool kitchen and living room, sometimes a pool, with a cool garden, all of their property marked by hences? And we take that for normal.
I hate when people say I must choose Green or Black, that if you don't you don't feel attached to the characters. I feel attached to some characters for how well I think they are built, even though I get along more or less with them. I like Alicent's character because she is complex and how Olivia portrays her, but I do not agree with many of her actions. I like how they built Viserys and I quite got along with him (not completely but actually he is my fav. character from HoTD). But in politics, no no. Neither Blacks nor Greens for me. I am not a fan of monarchy either way, although I do believe tyrants exist in every regime.
I prefer democracy based on TRUE meritocracy (not that lie that we are told about, for example, the American Dream, where if you want something, you can achieve it, that your socioeconomic status by birth has nothing to say). Of course that is quite a mission to achieve, but still, neither Team Black or Team Green.

Westeros is sometimes a reflection on our own society. So yeah, absolutely. There will be unfairness, there will be bitterness and the good guys almost never win. Part of the charm of GOT is the fact that it can be so raw in it's portrayal to the point that it makes you reflect on your own society. Rhaenys hasn't read Fire & Blood to know the horrors to come. So her pre-emptively killing all her own family would've been OP. Having said that, the Rhaenys bit was to give audience a 'send home happy' moment which wasn't necessary. The coronation was fantastic in itself. But gawd forbid the 'bad guys' are on top in 1 episode. Those who think lowborns of KL have any obligation to support Rhaenyra you're in for big disappointments. Aegon claims his birthright from popular King Jaehaerys' Great Council stating king's firstborn male son to be the next king. Viserys himself won it that way over a female. Best part was the politics, less dragons the better. As for despairing mom alicent, it does highlight her humanity more than her colder iteration of actual green council. A well needed change imo, they've constantly shown subtleties in her character which the audience wilfully ignores since we're watching this as a team sport and gotta cheer team lovable manipulative dad! Show alicent has been better imo. Her being more humanized shouldn't be an issue unless one wants the show to remain grotesquely tilted towards Black (Laenor not being killed).

Thanks so much for the comment! It's so interesting to hear that there are some strong differences between book Alicent and show Alicent - honestly, we truly loved her performance and iteration in this episode. She felt real - she had her strengths, her vulnerabilities, her abandon of morals to receive information yet her fierce love for her son in the way she shielded Aegon... We LOVE seeing different shades of these characters because that's what makes them feel real! People do tend to polarize themselves rooting for one team over the other, when to me it's much more about the downfall of humanity, shifts in loyalty and the lengths people are willing to go, or forced to go to attain their desires. It's much more complex than Team Green vs Team Black!

36:32 it kinda looks like Aemond is very protective of Haelena. She was also looking at him when Aegon was being crowned. And at the beginning Aemond came to her room as soon as he found out about their father’s death. Is something going on with them? Aemond spends so much time with them that they consider him their father or 3. He is actually the father of Haelena’s twins…. @The Media Knights if there’s going to be a argument between Alicent and Aemond this is how it’s going to play out:
(Alicent was sitting by the fire warning herself Aemond comes in puts his sword down and sits beside her)
Aemond: why did you give my brother the crown?
Alicent: because he’s the first born son of Viserys that’s how monarchy goes
Aemond: are you not aware of the dark path my brother has taken Alicent because I’ve seen it with my one good eye
Alicent: Aemond don’t let jealousy consume you it’ll be your time next
Aemond: I’m not jealous I’m just saying you’ve made a not very wise decision
Alicent: well he said Viserys didn’t want him to be king…
    Aemond: SO HE SHOULD HAVE!
Alicent: how DARE you speak to your mother like that Aemond Targaryen a matter of fact I’ve told you before about yelling
Aemond: Aegon drinks until he gets drunk and passes out n£ked in bed, he goes to br£thels to plunge his sword into women those actions aren’t king worthy those actions are worthy of a fowl alcohol abusing low life scoundrel than a king
Alicent: now you’re not making much sense now
(Aemond leans over to Alicent taking off his eye patch showing Alicent his scar making her question her choice)
Aemond: putting Aegon on the throne is the worst mistake ever you’ll p!ss off the 7 kingdoms and shattering the peace between them. Peace that King Viserys had for HIS WHOLE INTIRE LIFE until his death
    Alicent (sobbing): AEMOND!
Aemond: now you see Alicent. The wise Cricket cowers under a rock while the lizard hunts nearby. Putting Aegon on the throne is you being the dumb cricket that spread his wings and flees the scene gets caught and eaten by the lizard and people are going to end up looking like me
Alicent (sobbing) I don’t know what to say
Aemond: I’m going to clean myself up and go to bed I’ll let you sit by the fire and think about your choice you made
(Alicent puts her head in her hands and cries Aegon enters the room)
    Aegon: Alicent what happened?
Alicent (sobbing): your brother Aemond your grace
(A angry Aegon stormed up to Aemond’s room and entered)
Aegon: what did you do Aemond
Aemond: oh yes that I said what I needed to say
(Aegon pins Aemond to the wall and holds Blackfyre to him)
Aegon: How DARE you speak to Alicent like that brother
(He pushes Blackfyre into Aemond’s neck)
Aemond: see you’re not fit to be king you can’t spill blood of a enemy in war nor your own brother’s Aegon. Drop Blackfyre and we’ll negotiate
(Aegon started to cry and shake then he dropped Blackfyre)
Aegon (sobbing) you’re right brother you’re definitely right
Aemond: just keep going along with it until we figure something out
Aegon: Thanks also I’ve got something I’ve should of given to you when you were a boy
(He pulls out a dragon shaped cloak pin)
    Aemond: what is it?
Aegon: it’s Vhagar made from pure Velarion metal. I’ve should of given it to you when you first claimed her
    (The two hugged)
    Aemond (sobbing): thank you
Note: this is a prediction not a spoiler

@@OfficialMediaKnights Aegon has a point Aemond should of got a dragon pin when he claimed Vhagar a matter of fact all the dragon riders should of
And “the wise cricket cowers under the rock while the lizard hunts nearby. Putting Aegon on the throne is you being the dumb cricket that spreads his wings and flees the scene gets caught and eaten by the lizard and people are going to end up like me” that’s my favourite part because what Aemond means is Alicent can’t always run from danger she has “the lizard s” which are Rhaenyra and Rhaenys to deal with and not just that she also has to deal with Aegon’s unruliness too. Aegon on the other hand was right Viserys never wanted him to sit on the throne he mentions this to Alicent in the carriage ride scene and his fight with Aemond scene
Another thing I want to point out is when Alicent’s daughter said “beware the beast under the boards” she was talking about Meleys coming out of the ground of the dragon pit with Rhaenys on her back

We will prevail. Ep 9: Alicent, “Wait what you were going to make Aegon king?!” The writing was so well set up for her turn of dominance and eroded it this episode. Isn’t it funny too, telling Knight of Kings guard to go kill Rhaenyra and Daemon and Dragonstone, “quick and clean.” As if anyone could walk up into Dragonstone. Caraxes would burn them on sight. The ep was great in what it was supposed to do, give the new monarch time to shine. The Aegon actor gave a top tier performance with his mood swings, establishing Aegon as far less one dimensional than Joffrey. Finally a proper crowning in Got-verse. A Green heavy political intrigue focused ep, with lots of great visuals & ethical quandary. Gonna be a Microwave Attention Span Challenge for the “only here for Daemon making g0ofy great value Patrick Bateman faces" crowd. Good. Rhaenys isn't aware of the book. She can't imagine the length of depravity & slow escalation both sides will go to, to kill her own kin at this point. That's Freefolk brain gigachad logic. Ned & Jaime coulda killed each other in the throne room & there's no War of Five Kings. But tbf I wouldn't have done the Rhaenys “good guy gets triumphal moment” pandering & kept it fully Green. I prefer moral dilemma of misguided mother Alicent over ruthless ambitious fire & blood council Alicent. The nuance of her has been lost on a viewership wanting her to fit the mold of a Disney evil queen. So this is a nudge in the right direction, that things are lot more grey from here. In general Aegon & Alicent have been more compelling than the gas light goodie two shoes way Rhaenyra's been portrayed so far. If ur angry at the smallfolk for not supporting Slay Queen...boy do I got bad news! This is the copium ep for Girlboss lovers.

Really got to know more sides of Alicent that we liked far more than what was previously showed. Like you said, it is a step in the right direction. There's some writing- decisions that feel a bit out of left field, but as we are non-readers of the book we don't experience the confusion actual readers have been mentioning, so we just kinda go along with it. The whole foot scene was.. interesting, to say the least lol, not sure why that was written in the way it was - Larys was already creepy enough, not sure why they gotta make 'foot-fetish' a part of his character where it feels a whole lot like kink-shaming - and how Alicent clearly doesn't want to do it, but she had to endure because she needs the information he has.. eh, there could have been other ways.
To be fair, Rhaenys' dragon moment was pretty badass - but if there's anything we've learned, it's that no matter what the monarchy/nobility does, it's always the common-folk that pay the price. That aspect is a little frustrating to be fair.

It certainly was a 'beggars can't be choosers' moment in regards to Crispin. As non-readers of the source material, I do have to say I'm disappointed with the direction his character took - we were rooting for him in the beginning, being common-born and trying to make it in this world made him that underdog - now he's just a d**k 🤣

No, she was escaping from under the pit, from where her dragon was stabled. The entrances were no doubt heavily guarded, so she no way out but up.

@@OfficialMediaKnights I just know “if” the greens did something like that people would lose their minds and never let that go lol but also come on is she killed all of them there wouldn’t be a second season 😂 ofc she wasn’t going to kill them there. I understand why they are making the show pro-black team because they need a “protagonist” for the show. Like all the bad qualities from Aegon are kept in the show while Rhaenyra’s are not. But hopefully they make it more even because thats what made the book so compelling. Everyone was grey. And I honestly dont think you are suppose to be with either team.
