I have my grandparents 1966 Airstream. I would take it over this new one in a heart beat! The layout is much better and it doesn't take an engineer to set it up. I added a solar panel to keep the battery charged. It is about the he same size as this one and also has a double axel which makes it easy to tow.
I felt so sorry for my grandfather because he lived in an airstream, then I priced a single axle 16 foot at $65,000.15 years ago. Then I found out astronauts in Rockstars an artist and eccentric’s love airstreams and live in airstreams…

My only complaint, the fuse box is on the floor. If you don't un screw the cover and suck it out with a vacuum once a week the cooking fan gets clogged up with dust and dirt from the floor. I can't figure why it would be put at floor level. Crappy Lance camper does that too.

My folks bought a new 24 foot Airstream in 1965, and we joined the Wally Byam Caravan Club that only Airstream owners can join. We had the #12844 on our trailer, and we very much enjoyed the trailer, and especially the WBCCI international rallies, local rallies, and the 1966 Western Canadian Caravan, during which we traveled from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan to Vancouver, B.C., over a period of six weeks. Your review was very thorough, but the design had little appeal to me. Too much like a plain metal box, with little or no storage for food, clothes, or anything else that I recall mentioned. And for what Airstreams cost, there is no excuse for not having large lithium batteries and a heavy-duty true-sine-wave inverter and a built-in convection microwave oven. And the heating and cooling should both be done by a reversible heat pump that does not require shore power, since there should be enough battery and solar charging to support it. There are examples online of folks who have equipped their RV's as I have described, so it is all doable.
I recommend a redesign. To many steps to accomplish a simple task, i.e., making the beds. Furthermore, to many limitations, i.e., short power for certain electrical uses for A/C, etc.
The little catches for the doors will be the first to go bust. The decor of vinyl/plastic and stainless sheeting gives one the feel of living in a refrigerator.
Yikes, that interior is stark! I would feel like I’m in a cheap hospital room living in that thing. And so many missing or flimsy features, I would expect this to be from a bottom of the barrel bargain brand. A few small things that I find are a problem on most trailers, the level indicator and thermostat are mounted crooked. There's nothing more frustrating than buying a brand new trailer and the components weren't even installed straight.
So, it's got solar, lithium batteries, but no inverter...for what airstream charges for these, you'd think they'd put in, at the very least, a 1000w inverter...
They should check out the latch system on the back doors of a Ford Transit van. They open so far with the latch, then, you disengage the latch and it falls back to a magnetic latch if you want a full opening of the door. No weight penalty. Maybe a few extra dollars. Odd Question, can you remove that inner lid/shelf in the propane locker and put 30 lb. or 40 lb. tanks in it? And can you install additional batteries and add an inverter?
Yes on the tanks, but be mindful of the additional weight on the hitch. Many people have added additional batteries and if lithium the weight is less than lead acid or AGM. Inverters can be added also. All of this custom work should be done by an experienced DIY person or dealer tech.
Given todays inexpensive technology, I really expected something a little more finished. The beautiful outside appearance promises so much but delivers so little on the interior. Why is there no inverter, why put a glass top on the stove, that may not stand the heat and door hooks that may break. Please rethink the inside and take some ideas from the boat trade, where space and asthetics play their part as well as practicality.
I kinda wish it was more of a bunkhouse style. I like the on demand water heater and heater strip thing ya mentioned, but my 20ft gulfstream looks more comfortable. I'm sure the airstream is better made and the price reflects that, but my gulfstream seats 4 comfortably at the table, has a separate bath and toilet, 4 burner cookstove with oven, plenty of cabinets, and sleeps 6 in 3 separate beds. I'm not the kind of guy who trades every few years, and mine is 12 years old and well taken care of. I plan to keep it for several more years, lord willing.
With Airstream being the Gold Standard of campers, one would think that the stabilizers would be push-button as a standard feature. Then too, making up the beds seem to be quite the project. Kitchen features were ignored, as was storage space and TV placement (red flags). The high cost of quality builds doesn't mean much if there's a serious lack of practicality.
*NO 'Inverter' for an 'off-the-grid' Camper?* *NO high-output PV-panels?* *'Old-School' fridge from 25-years ago?* *NO SALE!* ( *For an 'Airstream' like this I can get a 'Recon ENVY' for the same dollars!* ) ____________ ( *Is 'Airstream' serious w/that 'hook-latch' for the rear door that dates back 300-years...really?* )
@river southfork *As 'Casey Stengel' said "I calls 'em as I sees em' and in this instance the 'Base Camp' is a failure...a mistake* ___________ *'Airstream's ego' is legendary...but the execution of 'concept-of-design' into reality is so flawed by 'cheap-isms' it makes no sense to me, like wearing 'brown shoes with a tuxedo and no socks!'*
What size generator would I need to run the AC and microwave when not hooked up to power at a camp site. For example parked near the beach or tailgating. Thanks!
2000W range would be where I would go. Gasoline costs less to run than propane and won't empty your tanks. If you almost never use it then Propane generators are better when ignored for long periods of time. Definitely run a cable and isolate it from your rig if you are using it for more than recharging batteries on overcast days.
Really nice presentation. Looks modern and sleek from the outside. The inside looks … ok. But the “beds” (in quotes because I’m not sure what to call them) well, suck! I really think the interior needs a lot of rethinking - by an entirely new design crew!
Ok if you cant go off grid with an inverter and solar panels, or a easy to set up satellite system, for remote access communications, then what frigging good is it? I thought people bought them airstreams to go off grid but all they are offering is on grid connections, rediculous...
Thanks for the video. 20 minutes water flow to see "if" your on demand is working?? In that time you would blow thru your water supply if boon docking. This would have been a perfect RV for a pull down bed from the ceiling. The US just cant get with it. Many European manufactures have mastered space usage. Check out Wingaam and Burstner to see what Im talking about.
Glass that can shatter on the cooker if I forget to let the elements cool down and no inverter , that's a slap on the back for the team that designed stupidity into a sales pitch. You've literally told me not to buy it because I need shore service or ! Nothing.

Great walk around. I'm about done with manufacturers using a/t or m/t tires, on units that have exposed plumbing. First thing that always gets damaged when taking trailers on heavy gravel or rough roads, boon docking, etc.
I just built a micro camper that starts out 5 wide x 7 long x 5 foot tall trailer. When you pull into your site and disconnect it self levels and raises itself, the second level raises up, giving you 7'6" of head room, the king size bed rools out one side and the kitchen and living room rool out the other. When open it is 12 x 20 x 14. All the utilities are housed in the bottom of the main area of the trailer. Under the camper there are 2-100 gallon water tanks, a 30 Black tank. The Grey water ether just drains to the side, or I have a 30 gallon tank that I can hook up. When the roof extends out 11x6 covers the sleeping area and on the the other side it extends out in 3 tears to 11x14 creating the living room and kitchen. I have 2.8 kw of solar on the polycarbonate roof and 2-48 volt 200 ah lipo batteries over the axel. It has 2 bathrooms, one under the rool-out sleeping area, and the other on the second floor. The kitchen comes out the side witch has a 5 cf refer, an air fryer oven micro wave, and a full 4 burner stove. There is a freezer and 100 lbs ice maker up front next to the duel 30lbs propane tanks. I have a 6 filter water purification system with UV Lights incase I need to use river or lake water. I use hydraulics for the lift and elevator systems, pneumatic for the roof, electric for the roll-outs. The entire unit deploys in just over 2 minutes, and packs itself away in just under 4. The automation is done with 1 Raspberry pi 4B's running Home Assistant, a Pi 400 for the Dash Board and 6 pico micro controllers for the IO's. That track everything from the deployment and breakdown, Power usage, Temp, Gas, water, fire and air quility. And just for kicks, I put in a 3000 watt stereo system, and 43" 4K UHD. Now, I'm just waiting on that Lightning ! And then my alarm went off, and I had to get ready for work !
I camped next to one of these last October with plans of a huge kayaking trip the next day. Their AC unit kept me up all night. Still went Kayaking but was exhausted. They were gone when we got back to the campsite. That was a relief. Actually made that detail part of my video LOL

It looks really cool from the outside, unfortunately the more I see the less I like it. The price is outrageous for what is presented. I'm not into paying for a name especially when the value is not up to par compared to other manufacturers. What happened to Airstream?
Yes, it is very costly, no argument here. I actually own one of these. For me, the quality is outstanding and IMO above what other manufacturers offer. Your option my differ, and I respect that. As an owner, I will tell you have have ZERO regrets, but of course I would have LOVED to pay less…😊
I think this thing is a low blow to Airstream's integrity . I'd much rather camp in a slide out tent trailer for much less money, with easier set up, lots more comfort and room, and easier tow.
Always loved airstreams. I am surprised though in this day and age that all the environment monitoring/management and battery stuff isnt handled in one place. a custom implementation of home assistant a bunch of relays sensors and esp32's probably with hardwired network - plus an app for Bluetooth etc. if you are so inclined and that would be one slick trailer.

Please rethink the inside and take some ideas from the boat trade, where space and asthetics play their part as well as practicality.
What a Great walkthrough you guys did a fantastic job! Other youtubers should watch and learn how to do it!
Thank you!
Chris is great
I love his instructional video's. I like how he explains things that I can understand him
I kinda wish it was more of a bunkhouse style.
Amen! I was thinking the same.
The bed part is terrible, and it seems like it's a task just getting comfortable.
@@cnwil4594 No excuse for a shitty bed or inadequate solar power and a puny 1000w inverter...for a $100,000+!
@@davidohara7669 Absolutely....
And a damn inverter as a pure sine wave unit is dirt cheap now
Great demo dude know the trailer
*NO 'Inverter' for an 'off-the-grid' Camper?*
*NO high-output PV-panels?*
*'Old-School' fridge from 25-years ago?*
*NO SALE!*
( *For an 'Airstream' like this I can get a 'Recon ENVY' for the same dollars!* )
____________
( *Is 'Airstream' serious w/that 'hook-latch' for the rear door that dates back 300-years...really?* )
@river southfork *As 'Casey Stengel' said "I calls 'em as I sees em' and in this instance the 'Base Camp' is a failure...a mistake*
___________
*'Airstream's ego' is legendary...but the execution of 'concept-of-design' into reality is so flawed by 'cheap-isms' it makes no sense to me, like wearing 'brown shoes with a tuxedo and no socks!'*
One drawback from this video is neither bed was completely assembled.
What size generator would I need to run the AC and microwave when not hooked up to power at a camp site. For example parked near the beach or tailgating. Thanks!
I would recommend one from Harbor Freight maybe that uses propane.
2000W range would be where I would go. Gasoline costs less to run than propane and won't empty your tanks. If you almost never use it then Propane generators are better when ignored for long periods of time.
Definitely run a cable and isolate it from your rig if you are using it for more than recharging batteries on overcast days.
This guy reminded me of a professor who had a knack for presenting an interesting subject and making it a chore.
Really nice presentation. Looks modern and sleek from the outside. The inside looks … ok. But the “beds” (in quotes because I’m not sure what to call them) well, suck! I really think the interior needs a lot of rethinking - by an entirely new design crew!
My thoughts exactly! The bed sucks as well.
U typed exactly what i was thinking.
Didn't finish assembling the beds. What do they even look like?
A men the Bed Designs are Ridiculous keep me from buying the camper same with Shower over Toilet yuk
@@klausphx LOL YES! I agree the shower / potty thing is ridiculous. Thanks for mentioning that!
That bed was a deal breaker.
20 minutes for hot water 🤔. Honestly though, what a great presentation full of details and I can tell you know your stuff. I enjoyed watching.
20 minutes? Maybe 20 seconds, it's on demand. He misspoke.
Wow so great i love it
Glass that can shatter on the cooker if I forget to let the elements cool down and no inverter , that's a slap on the back for the team that designed stupidity into a sales pitch. You've literally told me not to buy it because I need shore service or ! Nothing.
That is a beautiful design. Love the windows.
This gentlemen is wonderful at explaining every detail. When i am ready to buy , it will be through him . Thank you Sir !
You've got to be kidding! This guy made my skin crawl. Duller than watching paint dry. Kept telling the cameraman where to go, where to stand, how to film! NO THANK YOU! Give me a gentle soul with a good heart and compassion any day!! 💁🏼♀️
@@ladyloquitavida148 shut up
@@ladyloquitavida148 He doesn't come with the camper.
Maybe put on some pants guy. I don't typically invest 100 plus with people who look like my newspaper boy.
Well done !
I was immediately struck by the professional , military instructor style of introduction .
Well trained , well informed and comfortable in his presentation .
His direction of the camera man was spot on .
And his demonstration of the features was flawless .
Outstanding ...
Thanks for watching!
Bryan must be sick of getting bossed around, he’s on his last nerve lol
Great walk around. I'm about done with manufacturers using a/t or m/t tires, on units that have exposed plumbing. First thing that always gets damaged when taking trailers on heavy gravel or rough roads, boon docking, etc.
my 7 year old did try to convince me that they were better tires though. He wasn't able to convince me of that fact.
So you came with the travel experience, it would really make it better cuz you know all the best tricks & tips to make our adventure great dude 👍
This guy did an excellent job.
never did see the bed set up, makes me wonder
How well does this trailer do in cold weather? Does it have a lot of condensation? Would it be hard to put an inveter in it?
No cold weather packages on this trailer, you would be froze solid, the propane wouldnt last a night.
@@johnkemple Yes, thank you for providing ACTUAL facts!!! 😊
I camped next to one of these last October with plans of a huge kayaking trip the next day. Their AC unit kept me up all night. Still went Kayaking but was exhausted. They were gone when we got back to the campsite. That was a relief. Actually made that detail part of my video LOL
doesn’t look like there is much storage?
does it have an option to put kitchen up front instead of side seems easier space efficient .. like in 2020 model
You said the BC has Lithium batteries. Do all 2022 BC's come with Lithium batteries?
What are the usable width of each door? By that I’m trying to figure out if either door is wide enough for my wheelchair.
That thing is cool, that guy knows his stuff and straight to the point, the blonde lady at the end deserves a 'Chandler Bing' "oh my gawd" little bit smitten. 😍
$60,000 plus tax and delivery 70k. or buy used one for less than 20k or build one for 5000...... who would pay 65k minimum for this.....literally you have to be on drugs....
$40k unit and it has a $2 thermostat for the furnace...
This really feels like an in person tour.
Nice. But those door hooks will break. And no generator. And limited storage. And a less than ideal spring set up. Shorter RVs are tough to make live-able.
Yeah, he did a nice job in the video foreshadowing the future with those flimsy hooks......without saying it directly!
Promote this man. He gives the best walkthroughs of any that I've seen on RUclips. I wish he was at my local dealer.
It looks really cool from the outside, unfortunately the more I see the less I like it. The price is outrageous for what is presented. I'm not into paying for a name especially when the value is not up to par compared to other manufacturers.
What happened to Airstream?
Hyper Inflation on everything anymore.
Nothing has realistic Value. Pay more, Get less, everywhere, on everything.
Yes, it is very costly, no argument here. I actually own one of these. For me, the quality is outstanding and IMO above what other manufacturers offer. Your option my differ, and I respect that. As an owner, I will tell you have have ZERO regrets, but of course I would have LOVED to pay less…😊
Don't forget the privilege of paying 50% more because it says "airstream" on it 👍👏
A fancy broom closet on wheels.
Way to many things that can malfunction or break and yes they will.
Ok, stay at home then in your bricks and sticks house. Don’t hate… Cheer. 😊
5/11/22...NOTHING LIKE A REAL CLASSIC AIRSTREAM!
Yep. The Air Stream Classic is the “Holy Grail” IMO!!! Cheers to you!
I think this thing is a low blow to Airstream's integrity . I'd much rather camp in a slide out tent trailer for much less money, with easier set up, lots more comfort and room, and easier tow.
I agree it’s like a rabbit hutch
can you connect to a 230V power outlet as well?
Always loved airstreams. I am surprised though in this day and age that all the environment monitoring/management and battery stuff isnt handled in one place.
a custom implementation of home assistant a bunch of relays sensors and esp32's probably with hardwired network - plus an app for Bluetooth etc. if you are so inclined and that would be one slick trailer.
Beautiful trailer...I'm just wondering why it has solar panels and not an inverter?
Yes, pay to play is a pain. I hear you, Inverter is an option you must add on. I wish it were different, I paid. Just letting people know…😊
It has some very clever touches but I heard "unfortunately, this model doesn't have" far too often.
And I'm guessing it's stunningly expensive, too.
that tour host was exceptional.
Another great video….love the basecamp 👍
my friend had the Mini Airbus with the solar panels and looks similar to the one next to this in the video....she loved it
