I will never forget a Zawinul Syndicate concert, where Joe introduced him. "He toured for a year with Madonna, now he's back to making real music". RIP
This was one of favorite bassists, of course after Jaco Pastorius. It is with a heavy heart that I learn of his death today on Veterans Day of 2016. RIP. Your music will be dearly missed.
Thank you Victor for all the amazing playing and inspiration you fed to many aspiring bassists. May you rest in peace. :( Another one of the pioneers has left this mortal plain too soon.
Victor Bailey!the first WR Bassist! . . . where Jaco joined to carry the livery of this great tune. Jaco added his own flavor. I am a fan of both. But this one brings me tears!
Plus, even Jaco would have considered this a tribute to his own skills on the Base. Bailey's introduced a technique for playing that Jaco himself never attempted to utilize, and that is something that would have piqued his interests. I like what Bailey's done with this.
@ChiapasZapata u may not feel it but look at him. hes concentrated and almost dancing. you may not agree wit that but im sure that u can agree that different people have different taste. to me is just amaizing how many sound this man can create wit just one bass and that takes skills(technical abilities)
Victor isn't being a speed freak here or overly technical, he's expanding the horizon of the instrument in a very musical way - trying to do something different considering he stepped into some big shoes with this particular gig. It's all about groove and Victor's got it throughout this whole video. What doesn't groove is your use of such an ugly word to describe the solo. In the same sentence you say you love the guy (musically), yet call him a musical rapist. I can't get that shit, man. GFY.
Love all you armchair experts who do and know shit. When was the last time you played with Steps Ahead?.. This a seriously cool way to interpret the great tune that it is.
