2013 TMNT is the best story version of the Turtles. Best Splinter, Best Shredder, Best Krang, Best turtle tech and personalities. And I grew up with the original. I didn't care for the new Turtles for a wide variety of reasons, which really hurts my interest in this game... and I've always been interested in TMNT games.

I wasn't sure about this but two hours in it suddenly clicked for me. I love the persona style social bits as they all flesh out the world of the Turtles and their character give you more insight into their personalities. The combat also gets really fun once you unlock more moves but the camera is horrible at times making some encounters alot more frustrating than they really should be. Overally though as a TMNT fan and as someone who enjoyed the latest movie i am enjoying this one alot.
I'm still surprised this game took me 14 hours to finish. It's longer than expected, interesting enough to keep me going and unlike most, I don't mind the art style for the turtles.

That’s five TMNT games on Switch now? That’s a lot. The NES and GameCube only had four TMNT releases in their lifetime. The SNES and GameBoy even less. I’m certainly not complaining though. The Switch library is incredible in so many ways…I feel this situation is once in a lifetime…
@OscarG787 Yeah, I don't know. I think the actual TMNT designs here aren't too offensively bad and could have been elevated by better material, but I can't say the same about the rest of the character designs. I just don't get why so much stuff keeps being made by people who clearly don't like or respect TMNT that they keep trying to find ways to alter it into something they deem likeable and more relatable. While I have my issues with it and vastly prefer the 2003 and 80s iterations, the 2012 show is like the last thing that actually felt like TMNT that was made by people that were clearly fans of the material.
I just don't like this art style at all, and I skipped the movie because of it. Shredder's Revenge and Splintered Fate both seem better options. That is not my April or my Splinter.

I'm playing this on my Steam Deck; I can confirm the load times are MUCH better there. They're still there, but not enough for me to complain. I do quite like the game, and while it's a shame to see it so divisive, I think people should stick with it. Though it looks to me like the Switch version is one I'd recommend...only if you have no other device to play it on, or at least if you have no other option to play it portably.
The Turtles redesigns get worse and worse. I thought the Michael Bay versions were bad.. What did they do to Splinter in this?! Sorry, I'm only golden era TMNT.
It's been a while since I've watched a full review on this channel, and I think this one really shows the efficiency of your system. I can see the positives of the game while clearly seeing that it's not worth the money. I also respect that you didn't bring up all the other recent TMNT games. While it could have been useful to bring up Shredders Revenge and Splinters Fate, it's cool that you focus on this game for exactly what it is.
This is not an action brawler. It's a linear relationship building telltale game with a few fighting levels thrown in. The fights are short, the load times are long, the game isn't quite even meh.
@@SwitchUpYt Sorry you don't know what linear means, this is just a 'press a to read story', nothing matters, nothing really changes, it's all predetermined as long as you keep pressing A. They borrowed the relationship thing from persona, but made it for babies, so you can call it whatever you want. To me this game was more about building relationships to advance a story and to unlock junk than anything else. Should I call it a junk unlocking game? Is that better?

I did have expectations for this game because I played Heart & Slash the devs prior hack n slash game that while flawed was unique and fun and it gave me some optimism as to how this would turn out as this game's development cycle was notably uncommon from the publisher. At first though i was pretty disappointed when i played it, the combat is quite different from what i expected which was more along the lines of Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks or Devil May Cry, and while I love TMNT so i actually really appreciated the Persona influence and more involved story, at the beginning the ratio of story to combat feels pretty skewed. I just felt so dejected playing this at launch night, I really wanted to love it, but it just wasn't clicking like I'd hoped. But through the days after work i kept coming back to it and I'm glad i did because I really do love it now, its a game that opens up and gets better as it goes, if you're willing to give in time to it, its always willing to give back, even the graffitis or digimutants that initially seem superfluous reward you with fun extras like stickers to decorate environments, goofy masks for you can apply to any character in the game, more action missions, and more bond stories that yes if you don't engage in finding these things you can miss. Combat opens up as you get further in the trees and every turtle plays differently to a degree that feels noteworthy thanks not just to unique movesets but they all have their own unique mini mechanics that are exclusive to them and ensure they all can be utilized differently. There's a lot of side missions that mix up the typical brawling gameplay with some kind of twist and then there's also the pizza deliveries which really do good taking advantage of the platforming and movement mechanics. I think the presentation is top notch too, the film had a really great visual style and its very well captured here, it looks like a comic come to life. I could keep going on how much i feel the game got right, like while i agree about enemy variety, i think the game at least has a fun pool among the existing ones and even gives them different mutations and gimmicks to add just that little bit more to encounters. The game isn't the toughest but it's not exactly chill either I was constantly engaged, i just wish it was more challenging to earn S ranks, games like these don't specifically thrive off difficulty they thrive off combat giving you enough options and tools to look as stylish and as cool as possible when mastered and this game has that in spades. These just are not MY Turtles, the ones I grew up with will never be replaced or surpassed.
I wish I could put this game art style on Splintered Fate XD
I like splintered fate a lot but the style is so bland. While Im not into this one but love the art style
Thank you for the review.
Definitely getting this soon
How many TMNT games are out right now? LOL
I don’t like the character designs, particularly Splinter & I’m not too far into it so my opinion may change, but so far I like it.
I loved the movie so im downloading this game as I type now. Good or bad I will ride with it until the end
Shut up and take my money 😮
Genuinely asking, Did you watch this video?
@@micahneilson9956 of course I did, am a huge fan of the TMNT, as a matter of fact started to learn English just to watch the cartoons when I was a kid, no matter if the game is good or bad, if I see them am gonna purchase it
@@doafan455 Daaamn! 100 Points to your commitment to the turtles! Wish i had a franchise that I loved that much.
@@doafan455 RIGHT ON 🤜🏽🤛🏽
I’m sticking with splintered fate. Great review as always!
I'm loving these joint reviews. Keep them up.
Guys i laughed so hard this game is fun but god the writing has got to be the worse. It’s so far left it’s utterly humiliating.
These Turtles take off the Shells?? Wut?
Michelangelo? Look how they massacred my boy...
I know he's meant to be a "party dude" but he looks like Bez after a night on the mead
You could play as classic Michelangelo. They have the comic skin and 1988 skins.
I can’t stand this art style. The turtles look bad but splinter and april look absolutely atrocious.
The movie had a unique style that took a little bit to get used to but I ended up digging by the end. Here, though, it looks like absolute ass.
my favorite is when they say IT'S TURTIN TIME
Will a good one ever come out.
Also, waiting for a EAFC mix with GTA.
Like you have missions to break opposition top strikers leg before a match or sneak into their canteen to poison them.
Drive to the stadium shooting at opposition team bus, ect
notification gang ✋
Gor this in the mail today, im wxcited for it
I like tuwwtles.
So it seems good at first but then gets worse the more time you spend with it?
It really does capture the spirit of the last film.
I find the game graphics charming but i really cant stand april design, sorry ill pass on this
Love that TMNT is getting so many games released now but they shouldn't limit these games to the Switch man.
it isnt.
@fgoogle4142 the 2 most recent TMNT games actually are Switch exclusives. Look it up
Cowabunga!
No thanks
the new turtles are so damn cringe! worst reboot for a long time!
New April looks like 🗑
April? Is that you? 😂
Heard it’s terrible. Nothing like the canon TMNT. All turtles seem like one and the same character. The art style looks really nice but even that you say doesn’t look well at all when played. Crikey
They really let the TMNT franchise fall. Like every idea here is half baked. Not terrible but NOT good either
I been playing this game since it was unleashed and it is awesome.... With super tight controls for all the characters.... Fantastic A+++++++
Poor dont buy you spend more time waiting on loading than playing the game! 🇬🇧
