I love this song. Thanks for sharing. I'm new to the Synthwave scene and I'd love to know why so many fans like to buy new music on cassette. I know people love the rich sound of vinyl but I don't understand the desire for tape. But apart from fond memories of that tactile experience of loading the tape and pressing play I have no desire to go back to cassettes. I remember the audio quality being low and ultimately fairly destructible. Is there a special sound fans enjoy from the cassette experience they don't get from vinyl of digital? Would love to know.
It simply reminds people of better times. Whether they were better because the person was young or because the whole country seemed to be doing great, they were simply better times for most people and the crappy cassette quality sound reminds us of that subliminally.
if i had to guess , and this is from personal experience--when you really go down the rabbit hole you gravitate towards driving and in most cases driving in older model vehicles which in most cases only have cassette players--its about the immersion in a time that was not built to last. I'm fully aware of the fickle nature of tape--it has a half life and that's part of what makes it powerful--it will eventually fade away. However you still have that tape--it always carry within it those long drives through the dark.
@@thestomp1647 Yes there are attributes to the tape cassette sound that some find appealing. The warble effect you get is nostalgic feeling for a reason... because it was always there on the mixtapes people would make each other off the radio. Tape Reverb is literally now a guitar pedal for the effect tape had on reverb effects back then. The sound quality being degraded doesn't hinder the fact that it was a unique and formative physical format in its day...
I was a metal head/ rocker for most of my life. I have always enjoyed the occasional 80s pop song, but There is something about The Midnight I just truly enjoy. Gunship is also good
I was born in 93 and most of the music I listen to is classic rock and country but some of these new songs and artists are amazing...You can’t hide when someone put up a catchy beat and great vocals too regardless of it’s what you are into or not lol I’m like 70/30 on the rural/city fun and you can’t deny that it’s a blast to go to a concert/music festival or just a bar downtown and get wrecked beyond all recognition while meeting people all night and obviously some really friendly people make for a good night 😂
Damn, my man really going through it. In all seriousness it's one of their best tracks, and the great thing about The Midnight is you can listen to their songs and each time pick up on subtle details you didn't notice before. I only realised a couple of months ago that there is an awesome inflection in the saxophone at the very end of the solo, I couldn't hear it before because I was focused on Nikki's vocals.
The song hits me like almost no other so I can relate to your reaction. Takes me back years, to that one person. Not just what was said, but what wasn't too. I dunno if it was a conscious choice but I like how Tyler and Nikki never harmonise with each other in this track, as if they could actually be light years apart, never hearing what the other is saying.
My man's soul is yearning. Appreciate you sharing your vulnerability with us. I can relate, just being completely absorbed by an emotion through a song, staring off into the void. Maybe you're full of regret over past mistakes, maybe you're longing for some future you don't think will ever exist, etc... Just be careful you don't linger too long and find yourself trapped in some sort of depression. Appreciate the moment, the clarity and move on and try to make positive changes in your life. Sendin' out good vibes your way, my guy.
Long has this been my favourite song by The Midnight, so emotionally charged. Off my favourite album too and always in my top three with Los Angeles and Lost & Found. Then they released Comet 😍. Lets face it, in the Synthwave world The Midnight have the Midas touch.
This song has a huge meaning for me : one day (I think it was in June 2019) my girlfriend and I were invited to a party so we drove while listening to it. Now every time I listen to it, it reminds me of her and it’s the only way I can remember the beautiful girl she was. I hope she’s alright. Also great reaction man, this song also seems to have a big meaning for you

This song by TheMidnight is very beautiful and it's really touching, many TheMidnight songs also make me happy because they make me think about many things and many memories....a really exciting friend ! Very emotions :)
Thanks for sharing .. music is such a big part of life .. I can remember exactly what I listened to on some of the happiest and saddest days of my life .. it also helps a lot to heal. So does sharing .. much love !
These reactions are just spot on I've been watching and trying to find Midnight Reactions for so many years since I started listening to them. A couple of months ago I found your channel and I just feel exactly the same to each reaction you are doing. Thanks for these videos, they are so genuine, great work keep it up!
This song... And this type of sound just evokes SOMETHING. That something may be different for everyone, but it's such a powerful feeling. Personally, it's a n overwhelming feeling of sadness, no, longing maybe nostalgia??? I think the phrase "The good old days" fits well somewhere in this ramble trying to explain it. Much love, man 💜✌️
i adore how The Midnight and GUNSHIP have these big, soaring vocals and a fearlessness w/ using nostalgia and heavy emotions. as a writer, this kind of music can REALLY help in writing the right scenes
Thanks for posting this and making it okay to have this song break your heart into a million pieces. (The first time I heard it, I kept it together until about 5:12 in your video when the sax solo starts. What a gut punch...)
Damn Jon, you look like your were going through something here man. Another great track by The Midnight and another good video. Now you've got ME in the feels lol
I love this song so much. I’ve watched a lot of reaction videos to all different types of genre of music, but this right here, is the best reaction video to a song I have ever seen. I felt what you felt. Thank you man.
You want to talk about a Midnight song that gets no credit? Synthetic. Tim is the Singer on that song and he does a DANG good job. I demand Tim either get one vocal song per album or he do a duet with Tyler.
I could tell this song has had some resemblance on your life ❤️ I also love this track just because of its meaning and representation. The Midnight just keep getting stronger and stronger, me and my wife have tickets to see them here in the UK in Glasgow, we've seen them before here when they toured, here in Manchester also, really really hope we get to see them again. So much nostalgia and passion in their songs ❤️ stay strong man, I was almost shedding a few 😢 with you on this one.

I've been separated from my fiance, who lives overseas, for the last year due to COVID-19. Things are finally starting to move again with her visa and we're both extremely hopeful that we're almost through this. I’m also wondering why there isn’t much talk about it and why when I play it nobody has a clue what it is lol 2 years ago I was playing this constantly
