    I was a Senior in High School when this album dropped. This song was one of my favorites. Played it a million times in my bedroom upstairs in the old farmhouse on my little record player I worked so hard to buy. Now this is my kind of song to walk up the isle to the alter for my wedding. Alas, I hiked up Mt. Shasta and got married in a borrowed dress and my hiking boots, standing in the snow in July. Priceless, still married 45 years later. One of the greatest love songs of all time. They can play in at my funeral.

    Zeppelin was so much more than "heavy metal". They really could do just about anything they wanted to. Lots of their songs were "heavy" but they also have beautiful, gentle ones like this. I recommend "That's The Way" the next time you want another quieter Zep tune. Nobody seems to do that one, but it's super lush and sentimental, like this one. One of my favorites.

  • @midkingsteve
    @midkingsteve 4 года назад +6

    Yesss. "This whole left right thing" exactly. Zeppelin is what really got me into recording. I liked to play before that, but hearing what you could do with a soundscape took this old stuff to get me into engineering. People now just mix to have one full blast comin' atchya, which is cool for what it is, but when I started listening to zeppelin I was like oh you can treat the left and right like separate channels and play. It's a lost art.

      I keep seeing this statement that JPJ was underrated, be it a member of the band or as a musician. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jonesy played almost everything the rest of the band couldn't, engineered & put the songs together in the studio, mixed maxed & did so much behind the scenes & was overall the most talented member of this band. Ask any musician about JPJ & you'll get an earful of praises. Just because he wasn't the most popular doesn't mean that he's underrated.

    Stereo recording was still a new thing in rock and roll in the late 60's early 70's when these songs were laid down. So it made plenty of sense for Zeppelin to experiment with the left right arrangements of the instruments as well as playing around with how each channel was panned in the mix. Rick Beato occasionally talks about the recording strategies used back then, where the goal was to present the music as it might sound to an audience, adding to a set up with the lead guitar in the right channel and the bass guitar in the left channel and the drums and the vocals in the middle, by directing the reverb from the guitar into the left channel and the reverb from the bass into the right channel to create an even bigger sound. Now if you want to listen to something from back then where the advantage of stereo was put to exceptionally good use, check out the guitar solos during the middle passage of this: "All Along The Watchtower" ruclips.net/video/TLV4_xaYynY/видео.html

    Faked out on the Fade Out.
    Let that be a lesson to you, girl.
    You shall leave no rhyme...
    Before it's time!
    The one essential element that many You Tube reactors seem to have sacrificed, which all of us Boomers enjoyed when we heard this music for our 1st time, is that the stylus in the groove followed the Track all the way to...THE END!
    Round & round & round she goes, and where she stops...
    Nobody Knows!
    So let the music go & go, until it stops...and plays no more●
