- 1972 Formula 455HO Firebird with 106,823 miles. My buddy just bought this car from the daughter of the original owner. Original paint, Adriatic Blue, all original untouched components.
Defiantly 106,800 mile car, the wear on the right end of the brake pedal would not show on a 6800 mile car.
Pedals are dirty not worn
@@camirocz
The right edge of the Brake Pedal is worn.
That has at least 106k miles on it.
Right edge of brake pedal is worn smooth, at 2:14 you can see all the oil blow by around the pcv tube and all over the passenger valve cover. And, other tells. its a super cool, super rare, car. But, its not a 6k mile car. I've been doing this too many decades and know better.
These cars were the best looking of the firebirds. That year was ahead of its time in looks.
Not many people see this but these days it seem more peeps are realizing the beauty of this cars lines curves and scoops on the right places. With the right tires and rims I have loved mine and to the likes of should have never giving it up.
Wow you guys hit the jackpot. Those Formula 455's are extremely scarce. I remember those cars very well. There was a Pontiac dealership in Falls Church, Virginia (Bill Page Pontiac) and me and my friends would hangout at The McDonalds next door. We'd checkout the hot GTO's and Firebirds like one in this video. One of the Pontiac salesmen even let me sit in a Formula 455 and start it up. The car was awesome to say the least.
imagine the fun you could have today watching 4 door only ugly "colorless" all lookalike plastic trim buicks at a dealership - if u can find one - tho the place next door may have no loitering signs in parking lot
wanted this car since i watched corvette summer as a kid in the 70's ...
Great find and has a ton of potential.
Oil Embargo in 73 finished a lot of these cars...
This car could be cleaned up and presented as a survivor! Very clean and rare, only orig ONCE! I would preserve this one. In the 80s a buddy had a 72 Formula 350 3 speed, black with white stripes, I have yet to see a 350 3 speed. It was a hell of a top end cruiser, and handled very well....with only a 2 barrel too. Love this car, they made only 276 1972 455 HO Formula cars that year....VERY rare.
It was repainted because they didn't make these cars in black.
still a great find.
Sweet!! More videos on this car please!
That's a nice find, so hard to find a survivor like that these days, especially with a 455 HO... Definitely worthy of a ground up restoration
Looks too rough to have only 6800 miles? More like 106800 i bet, unless it's sat out in the elements for 30 plus years
Says 106k+ in the description. Click bait.
I'm conflicted. I wanna cry seeing this Firebird in this shape yet i love the video.
That's either going to be some wild summer nights . or a waste of a legend moving to another barn
That feeling of love at first sight....
Who has a car with less than 7K miles AND LEAVES IT OUTSIDE??? Formula 455 Firebirds are extremely rare, looks like you guys got the bear today!GOOD SCORE...I just noticed that your lead paragraph says 107K,you got me...
This Car was a real Sleeper in '72.......
It would smoke anything it went up against.........
A real powerhouse........
Nice indeed. But it wouldn't smoke a 70 T/A
That's a rare bird
Very...
"Untouched components"... You can say that again!! Joking aside, that is one sweet ride. I'd love to see it after it's restored
So sad,
They didn't know
What they had,
A shell
Of it's former glory,
Pieces of rust & dust
and a bunch of old stories.
Nice car I have a 76 pontiac firebird
It's a 1972 Formula indeed, from the "strike" year. The tag lets us brag: ST72 for 1972 model year, looks like 22687 for Formula or 2387 for Firebird, NOR is for Norwood, OH assembly, 222 for Ivory interior trim, 24 24 for Adriatic Blue upper and lower exterior paint, 11B (I think hard to see) for second week of November 1971 production, A51 for bucket seats, W66 for Firebird Formula.
1972 was a short year for F body production because Norwood went on strike and by the time that they returned, the cars in process did not meet 1973 standards and had to be scrapped.
No VIN, we do not win, but it's easy to figure out: 2 for Pontiac, U for Formula, 87 for two door coupe, X for 455 V8 HO with four barrel, 2 for 1972 model year, N for Norwood, OH assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Norwood plant closed in August 1987 and all production of the F body cars was then done at Van Nuys CA until 1992.
It’s sickening how people abuse this vehicles 😢
Original tires ??
come on my friend
They were bias ply in 72!!
Very cool car!!
This is true, radials weren't an option on the Formula until '73.
Exactly, they change the tires after 6000 miles,, why?
Its a ho 455 car with auto & air looks like its all there ,very rare
This is what i call a hidden jewel.
Ditch the vinyl top, spray some new lucerne blue, and add a rear spoiler, honeycomb wheels, original chrome twice pipes, and white letter tires . . . bitchin!
That will clean up nicely
Real ram air 455 car too the intake pieces are still intact which is awesome
my dad built that car that's a pre strike 1972 very few were made at the No rwood assembly plant!! the home of the F body
I am a lucky owner of 71 firebird from the same assembly plant! Best car ever!
What about the Van Nuys Assembly Plant in CA.?
That has to be the coolest 455 graphic on the air cleaner
106823 miles...
no shot. looks like actual miles. look at the seat, the shifter, the steering wheel, and the pedal pads. looks almost brand new but old enough to the point you know they didnt replace them. id put money on the fact its an actual 7,000 mile car
Yup! Was thinking that too
NO
Look at the wear on the gas pedal and brake pedal
Super rare car... u score
An Alaska car thats not rotted !
Insane all the nice cars are up there !
Saw a vid of a 69 ram air 4 trans am out of a garage in Alaska
Probably these same guys
Nice find. Going to have to put $$ into it. Good luck.
Very cool "better than a camaro."
1 helluva' find here! Too bad the twin underside hood stacks that match-up to the induction ears are missing.....good luck on runnin' THOSE down!
Nice color combo
I ordered a white 72 Formula 455 but it got cancelled due to a strike. 72 Birds are a bit scarce. Hope this one cleaned up ok.
106800 but still a great car at any mileage
Amazing.
I have a Firebird that is very similar to this one but more rare than this car. Mine is a 1971 Formula 455 HO with Ram Air and an M22 4 speed with 3:73 gears. All original numbers matching drivetrain. They only made 321 HO Formula 455's in 1971. Of that only 159 had the M22 4 speed. Also only 109 of the 321 total cars had Ram Air so my car is likely one of only 50-60 Ram air 4 speed cars and possibly less when considering the 3:73 gears. It is Lucerne Blue with a black vinyl top and a white (pearl parchment I think it is called) interior. The 71's have a slightly different front fender that has a vent in it. Currently it is in the early stages of restoration having the body and paint done. Car is fully disassembled doing a ground up restoration. Found it in a barn with a few other Firebirds. At one time there were goats in the barn and they walked on it from time to time for crying out loud!! Hopefully it will be done in a couple of years.
Hi Captain Rawn, my first car was a 71 Formula .. really interested in following your restoration. Shane
@@johnb.dennis8973 Hi Shane, I'm not sure if I will do a build thread on youtube or anywhere else because it is pretty time consuming to post that stuff. But if I do I will let you know where you can see it. The car was completely disassembled has now had all of the metal work done. The body is in primer now. The interior and underside of the car have been painted in the original "red oxide primer" color and the car is ready to be picked up. I will be taking the front sub frame, and various suspension parts to the powder coater soon. The engine was rebuilt 4000 miles before it was parked for good in 1989 so it only needs to be taken apart, cleaned, re-painted and re-sealed. It still has the original carb and distributor on it and it runs really well. The car has a little bit over 83,000 original miles on it. I have gathered a lot of new parts for it over the last year.
@@captainrawn Hi Capt Rawn, thanks for replying. I often travel about US. I would love to see what you are doing. Where are you doing the rebuild ? My brother in law Ira has a nice shop in Keller Texas where he has rebuilt just under a dozen 230-280sl and we are always looking for a road trip!
@@johnb.dennis8973 I'm not in the US. The project is on the back burner until next year while I finish working on some other things
So within 6000 miles it had to have the decklid replaced
Really nice find here, the car is in really good shape as well. Too bad it wasn't a standard transmission car but a gem non the less. i would do a full resto on her and keep it as close to stock as possible
I had a '72 Formula 350. Sold it and got a '77 Z28.
I would have kept the Formula.
Should’ve kept the Firebird, camaro is nice but not compared to a firebird
Shoulda, I wish I still had that Firebird. My first car was a '71 Camaro and I loved it so at the time, for me it was a good deal but I've had several of both and the Firebird was definitely the better made car but my '74 Z28 was my favorite because it was hard to beat with the 4 spd., Hooker headers and a Holley 650DP but the nicest was my '79 Z28. Awesome car. Not fast but quick (for the day). Kept it a long time but... last Bird was a '94. Pretty thing but had a growing family so I started on Grand Prix's. Nice family cars 🤙
I want it as my first car!!!!!!
69 was the best looking of the fire birds especially the rare trans am! But 72 will do!!
My feeling is the 70 to 73 is the most beaitiful, then the 67 to 69. After 75, I would want to retrofit 70 front and rears to get rid of the ugly bumpers.
@@bluesman7475 Totally agree, but then you're still stuck with the wrap around rear glass. I've had all gens of 'birds and 70-73 is king for me.
69 Trans am is nice but nothing comes close to the 70 to 73 in my opinion. I would rather have a 67 ram air 400 4sp than a 69 but I love all firebirds.
Is this Adriatic Blue ?
super rare, have you restored it?
Where is more videos on this car?
No way that's original miles! When these older cars reached 99,999.9 they went back to zero! To dirty in and out not to be over 100,000 miles! Not original tires!
Dave Hibbs I just saw the rubber on the gas and brake and yeah, old
That brake pedal pad is worn quite a bit. Thats likely 106k miles and not 6k. I've owned way to many unicorns... those old odometers not having a place for 1XX,XX will get you every time. Nice find for sure though.
if only it was a 4spd.....great find though...Formula Firebirds are way cool!
This specific T400 (w/455 HO) is nuthin' to sneeze @. You're ahead of the game here w/almost everything this car was born with, still intact!
I know this is a Rare Bird. My 1972 Firebird Formula 455 HO has 58,469 miles on the clock. This car of yours has air. I will tell you something else. In the front where the parking lights are located, that front panel should be plastic, ( Valance Panel). Very rare car. Look at the driver side near the parking light, it is broken and cracked, the other side is not broken. If you find another one watch for curbs in front. I had looked every where to buy a spare. If you look close it hids the bolts. Most of them where changed to metal when the went back from the strike at GM. Yours is the first one that I saw this way. I hope you post some pictures when the car is done.
So is this one going to sit like the 77 in the background
Unbelievable
And it was left outside 😢
that odometer is almost for sure rolled over
Would you sell it
Ok, so how do you want for it? Thanks
106.000,but still rare! I should know I own one almost just like it but unfortunately the idiot I bought it from used it as a daily driver for 12 years. And it is beat to Hell front-to-back top to bottom and then decided to go garage in 1984 because it might be a classic one day :(
what ever happened to the formula ?
Man those cars would rust! I would pull the motor and trans. Maybe differential. Sell the rust,I mean rest of the car
Your trippin dude.
Those pinch weld shots along the bottom edge look pretty damn original to me...my money's on that mileage bein' accurate. Tire tread sure could pass for that rubber bein' original as well.
I'm positive that pontiac didn't put those cars on the street with that skinny white wall tire. Come on think about how little 6k is in mileage. No way is it only 6k. That thing has been driven for 106k. Shoot its 200 miles just to get groceries in Alaska.
Could you move the camera around a little more. So nobody could see what you have. So you slowed it down for the wrecker??? Come on man!!!
Would you like to sell it ?
Won't play
What are you asking for it?
Memory Lane it isn’t for sale.
has he decided to sell it at all? id love you buy it
Too old, too many miles. That aluminum intake sounds odd. The 455 HO sticker is aftermarket. The bumper is correct. But that car could have been a 350 originally. He didn’t show the VIN. It could be a 455 but it’s a standard build. No crank up either. That would help. These cars ar 50 years old and this one has been driven! That’s a good find. Rust will cost thousands.
A 72 455 HO has an aluminum intake!
And round port heads!
And the carb is worth at least $2000
Ask me how I know!😁
And what rust?🤣 this car is very clean
whiteoak60 back windows, first place you look. All that steel has to come off. Vinyl roof cancer. That’s a 455 put on a 350 car. If it has an aluminum intake it’s got a Winters aftermarket. Want to check mileage? Look how worn the gas and break pedals are. I think they have junk!
@@scottsharp3356 So basically you're speculating right
@@scottsharp3356 If you read the full description that claims it has a hundred six thousand miles on it
How many 72 Firebirds have you owned
106,000 look at the brake pedal. Also learn to hold the damn camera steady
Pontiac only made one 455 that yr and they were all the same with no high output. So the 455 HO on the air cleaner was just a fake sticker or marketing scheme.
Lol. Did you get dropped on your head a lot as a kid?
Slow new slow old i work on these cars pigs
