I remember that day. I was onboard a flight from Seattle to Narita and we landed late because of that crash. We had to stay the night in tokyo due to main runway closure. RIP to the pilots who died.
@@Maldivian001Aviation i dont think a passenger about to board their plane cares if it was a freighter or not, you saw a widebody jet flip onto its back and burst into flames.
I cannot even begin to imagine what would have happened if it rolled starboard. You catch a microburst that close to the ground and you are done, especially in a plane as "roll prone" as the DC-10/MD011. May they rest in peace...God himself couldn't have saved that plane. And, a remarkably clear day for NRT.
@@ianutube22 It's probably because the MD-11 has a very stretched forward fuselage compared to the DC-10, which means the pilots are sitting much further ahead of the plane's center of mass. That makes it a lot harder to judge how far off the ground they actually are when landing.
Na it was the pilots they we very tired listen to the voice recordings, The First officer has only had about 3 - 4hrs sleep before the crash and the winds were pretty strong
I’m a little late but also because of the way the cockpit is way in front of the nose gear... F/O thought they were still on the ground and pushed the control column forward. Didn’t realize they bounced. Very tragic
How about over control after the first bounce pushed the nose way up and flying pilot push controls to far forward causing the nose first impact then Left gear collapse?
@JamminJamieFilms I really hope you realize this was no joke and that two people lost their LIVES. It was also FedEx not BA so no one was on but the pilots. This was a sad day not to be made fun of by stupid jokes.
I've seen the footage when the 1st bounce occurs but since then they always show footage of 2nd then final 3rd . Wonder why.. When you see the 1st bounce.. right away it looks bad...
Stupid, the nose wheel is so weak that it takes only one bounce on it to make a crash landing. Aircraft are built to land on main gears not nose wheel, like this one.
@menthol5 I agree in part...the DeathCruiser-10 was just as prone to rollover after a wing strike like that. For example, UA232 in SUX, but this a/c was doomed from the minute that burst hit it...I think the reports said at 50'? The porpoising was due more to the downburst than any reaction to it. That one would be interesting in a simulator (no, NOT FSX!). NRT is infamous for its approaches...and this was a burst during a relatively clear day.
That's one hard landing!!!
My condolences to the families of the two pilots who died in the crash.

the MD-11 is more roll prone than the DC-10, it stems from MD-11 pilots thinking they have landed when they really haven't and pushing the nose down.
@@JAKB2002 interesting. Why do you think it is that way? Maybe cause of the tail engine changing the flight characteristics?

Recipe for a crash: temperamental aircraft, gusty winds, tiredness of a crew, inexperience of a first officer, loss of focus, bad reaction.

@Thewhitewookiee sorry, my bad, the correct tail number of the Aircraft on the Delta Airlines times was N813DE
@Thewhitewookiee yes you´re right, i read on a blog that the airplane was previously used by Delta Airlines with the N711DE tail number
It seems then the plane came to land very hard then the tail fell off , then it starts to flip and burst into flames.
Since when surveillance cameras have SOUND?
Which pixel was that
What??? The video was posted on 3/22/2009 but the acident was in 3/23/2009
yes, a month ago a 737 crashed into Hudson River.
Airbus a320.
